Her son is a murder witness Can the new sheriff protect them both?
Astrid Mitchell’s abusive ex-husband showed her the dark side of law enforcement, so she has every reason to distrust Sheriff West Chandler. But they're going to have to work as a team to find the drug dealers targeting her young son. Soon, West's investigation is only strengthened by Astrid's knowledge of Dead Falls Island. And the spark flaring between them is growing more intense. Exploring that attraction is on the horizon…but first they need to make sure to keep her child safe.

Astrid Mitchell has lots of reasons to be weary of cops, the biggest being her abusive ex-husband. But just maybe the new sheriff in town might restore her faith. West Chandler is new to the town of Dead Falls. He’s replacing the old sheriff who was less than effective at his job. But West is trying to work his way through his own issues too. He’s hoping Dead Falls will give him a place to heal. Instead, he’s greeted with two back-to-back murders, a thriving drug smuggling trade, and a young boy who might have seen more that he should…Astrid’s son. Now Olly needs protecting, but the sheriff has no idea who from. Talking about being thrown into the deep end. Astrid finds herself having to have faith in this new sheriff, whether she likes it or not.
There’s a lot of action and intrigue is this new book in the Discovery Bay series. The new sheriff is thrust into the midst of a drug trafficking ring, he finds himself having to quickly earn the trust of the townsfolk. But maybe hardest of all, he has to earn Astrid’s trust. There is a lot of raw emotions boiling to the surface, and plenty of suspicions and suspects to keep the reader guessing.
While this is part of a series, the book does stand alone easily. It has a good mystery with several twists. I did guess a culprit midway through but that didn’t spoil the book. I felt we knew Astrid much more than we knew West. The romance didn’t get a lot of the story so as a reader I felt less vested in it.
This is an entertaining, well-written book. It was suspenseful, action packed and kept me reading. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
Will you be captured at the cove or by the cove? Astrid is the ex wife of a cop who ratted out a drug a dealer. A new sheriff in town and a body for his first day. A string of attacks and odd coincidences against Astrid pushes her close to the sheriff. Can they put all pieces together before a life can be taken?
I really enjoyed this 3rd installment of the series. However, you don't have to read the first two books in the series to know what is happening in this one, but I would recommend it just because the books and characters are great! Also, you will be introduced to Astrid and her son, Olly, so the reader will know a little more about them. Astrid is leery about cops. Her ex-husband was a dirty one and she has no interest in being close to another one. However, when the new sheriff, West Chandler, takes over for the previous sheriff who was less than effective, she must work with him to help protect her son who is the target of drug dealers who think he might have witnessed a murder. Olly is such a sweet, inquisitive kid. However, he is a typical pre-teen boy who likes to do things without telling his single mother what he's up to! Let's just say there is a drone involved from his mother's work and a missing memory card! I liked West a lot. He was a very good sheriff and tried hard to win over the public's trust after the last sheriff was very lazy and ineffective. The town was in good hands. Astrid was a typical single mother, but she was also levelheaded and listened to West when needed. A good story line with a lot of action and character development.
West is the new Sheriff in town. Tate sister Astrids ex husband was a dirty cop and flipped. Sounds like rocky start :) Astrid has a teenage son, who like other teenagers has his own version of truth and what to share. Though I knew, or thought I knew who the perp was, there was a little twist there too. I am not a mother, but I have to say I thought Astrid was a little slow on the uptake with several things, not just involving her son. Carol Ericson still delivers and entertaining and engaging read and there is Sherlock for the swoon. Thank you for the opportunity to read early. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #CapturedattheCove #DiscoveryBay #CarolEricson #HarlequinIntrique
Attention grabbing and fast paced! We are quickly thrust into the action in the third book in Carol Ericson's Discovery Bay series with Harlequin Intrigue and I loved every minute of it. Astrid is trying to start anew with her son after drama with her ex but soon learns that she's not getting the quiet life she was looking for when her son witnesses an evil act and she has to work with the new sheriff in town to keep him safe. The tension is high between Astrid and West as she attempts to keep secrets and keep her distance from him, but her feelings soon overcome her fear and romance wins. I really liked the characters and the plot was moved quickly and held my attention throughout. Great addition to the series!
This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. well written and easy to read. It did feel a bit more predictable than the other books in the series but it was still enjoyable.
