The 7 Hardest Things God Asks a Women to Do... or is it 14? Paradoxes like tolerance/intolerance, lead/follow, and hold on/let go. We discover 7 sets of opposing tensions that are critical to keep in balance. The authors skillfully thread the needle through the whys (and hows) of balancing these often tricky opposites.

And yes... "authors." The 7 Hardest Things is co-authored by a mother/daughter team. In books where we get to hear the voice of an older, experienced believer alongside the voice of a younger one, I consistently find myself yearning for more of the older voice. Their words are overflowing with a richness of wisdom gained through experience that is refreshing.

And The 7 Hardest Things is no exception. I devoured the chapters written by Reimer. The chapters written by daughter, Whittle were still of considerable value, but Reimer's writing reminded me again of those older women of the faith whose writing I have treasured: Sally Clarkson, Elisabeth Elliot, Edith Schaeffer, Margy Tripp, Marilyn Anderes. Thank you, Lord for the blessing of teaching from godly women who have surrendered to learning from you, and are overflowing to us, the next generation of women!

One further highlight is that The 7 Hardest Things could actually be promoted as "Book & Study Guide." Each chapter ends with several robust questions for thought & discussion, as well as a plethora of Scripture passages for further study. Would work well for a women's book study.

This was one of the first Bible studies I did after marrying a US sailor and shipping off to Naples, Italy. That spring I felt like I was doing at least 20 of the hardest things God could have asked me to do! "The 7 Hardest" are actually a collection of balancing acts compiled by the mother/daughter author team. They include Single-Focus/ Multi-Task, Be Tolerant/ Intolerant, Fai/Succeed, Proceed/Wait, Hold On/ Let Go, Lead/Follow and Die/Live. Each chapter discusses the importance of our daily relationship with God while getting through the daily grind. Very good study for any woman: young, old, single, married, with or without kiddos.

This is much more of a bible study book than a read by yourself book. It needs discussion with other people to really understand it.
