Once in awhile a book comes along that stops you in your tracks. The rest of the world falls out of focus and you are consumed by words that lead to sentences and grow into chapters. Where Have all the Heroes Gone? is that kind of book. From the moment I started reading, to the moment I finished, I was carried away by the stories. The intertwining of biblical accounts and Jeff's experiences as a soldier, work in the most fascinating way. He intricately describes subjects that most of us will never experience first hand, but reading his words allow insight that gives readers a whole new appreciation for the American soldier. Not only does he share personal stories of being deep in combat, he provides an in depth look into accounts of biblical heroes. An unexpected combination of ideas you'd think, but it honestly works!
There are certain aspects of this book that will haunt me, but in a good way. These "haunts" are lingering in my head, leading me to reflect and process them. That in itself, is a great accomplishment. Isn't it the intention of authors, artists, and teachers to leave their audience thinking? This book sure did that for me.
I highly recommend picking up a copy for yourself and dive right in. It's not hard to turn the pages on this thought provoking and quite emotional read.

I have just finished a wonderful book and work of Faith.
Where Have all the Heroes Gone? Is about a man and his Savior and how that Savior has walked beside him and at times carried him through some extremely happy situations and some extremely dangerous situations.
As I read this book, I began to absorb the feelings coming out the pages and I found myself crying because I was learning about incredible things happening to people that I didn’t know who put their life on the line for me. The kinds of things that most of us will never see, hear or experience in our lifetime. We must thank God for that!
During my reading, I was also reminded of how Jesus did the same thing. How He experienced incredible acts of human brutality yet still gave up His life for me. I was convicted for how ungrateful I have been, at times in my life, for the gift that Jesus gave me, just because He loved me.
At other times I was laughing out loud at some of the stories the author told about his experiences with his friends. This was a reminder that there are many contrasts in this thing we call life.
It was a pleasure to read this book as well as an honor especially knowing the man who wrote it. I feel much closer to this man that I have called my friend for many years, but truly did not know. The author has inspired me to continue my study of God’s word and continue my relationship with Him and seek Him more.
It was asked in the title Where have all the heroes gone? I believe They’re still here… they simply and humbly walk among us.

One of the best books I've read this year. It's honest and sometimes brutal, but I found it incredibly encouraging and edifying--both in the biblical figures Jeff Tiegs examines and in the events he reflects on from his own life. As a protestant, I have given undue attention to Mary, the mother of Jesus. That began to change after spending time in Ukraine at an Eastern Orthodox Church and so I really appreciated the attention on her. Jeff did an incredible job of showing how she, and others, are worthy of our attention and how God calls all of us, even in the midst of our brokenness, to do His will here on earth. Definitely a recommended read.

I know I wasn't necessarily the target audience for this book. That being said, this book was amazing. A lot of what I got from this is trying to help guide men (and women) to Jesus. Trying to help them understand just because you've "done bad things" doesn't mean God doesn't love you. I still have questions about Tiegs missions, like what happened with the 2 Star. Did they successfully shoot around the children from that one mission? And 9 times out of 10, you aren't the first person to go through your struggle. God is with you always RLTW!
