Dating a movie star in New York City is Bree’s biggest dream…too bad it’s all fake.
Bree’s spent her life letting serendipity guide her and dreaming of New York City. When she finally makes it there, it’s nothing like she imagined. The weather is terrible, the lady across the hall hates her, and she misses her best friend.
Then her celebrity crush comes to her rescue…but it turns out it’s his lookalike, Aiden.
When Aiden and Bree are asked to fake date to keep the paparazzi off the actual celebrity’s trail for a month, they both have their own reasons for saying yes. Aiden gets enough money to cut ties with the city he hates, while Bree nabs a real date with the superstar once the job is done.
It seems like a dream come true, until fake dating leads to real feelings, pitting Bree’s deepest wishes and Aiden’s painstaking plans against the unexpected risk of new love in a city that’s given them both countless reasons to give up.
Featuring plenty of swoony New York moments and heart-stopping almost kisses, Man Of My Dreams is a dual POV, slow burn, kissing-only sweet romance about letting dreams guide you without letting them define you.
Small-town girl bumps into city boy in this wonderful hilarious slow burn romance “Man of My Dreams”. Brianna “Bree” Peterson is a spontaneous, cheerful yet flighty, walking disaster barista who moves from Minnesota to New York in the hopes of following her dreams. Her first day in the city goes well – until she smacks into a door due to locking eyes with Hayden Carmichael, famous heart-throb movie star and, moreover, her celebrity crush! Except it isn’t him but his doppelganger that comes to the rescue, charming yet reserved personal trainer and aspiring veterinarian Aiden Johnson (“with an A, not an H”, mind) who also happens to be her neighbour. To grumpy Aiden, Bree is sunshine and a breath of fresh air, reminding him of how he was a decade ago when he first came to the city which has now hardened him.
But then the real Hayden Carmichael shows up, and strikes a bargain with them both: Aiden will pretend to be Hayden and fake date Bree to distract the paparazzi, while Hayden spends some time away from the spotlight.
Honestly, what’s not to like? Such a delightful book, I could not put it down! Decent length, pacing was ideal, and the amount of description in each chapter was just right. The characterisation was so good too! I fell more and more in love with Bree and Aiden. They have such depth to them, particularly their pasts, which make them so realistic. My favourite thing is their personalities: Bree is a chaotic person who wings things whereas Aiden is very orderly and plans, typical opposites but complement each other (of course). As the story progresses, we see their influence on each other as Bree becomes more organised and Aiden starts to come out of his shell and tries to not have a set plan for things.
This is much like Bree and her friend Leigh in whom I see aspects of myself: I am motherly, sensible, and will consult the best eating places on Google like Leigh; but I ramble, worry, love coffee, and believe in fate sorting things out like Bree. Their friendship is so wholesome!
Honourable mentions include Chapter 13 when they go on their first “date” (it got me giggling and kicking my feet!). Chapter 22 with that scene, need I say more? And lastly Chapter 29 – let’s just say I love the parallel, you will see what I mean.
As if this was not any better, the best thing was my discovery in the author Daphne’s note that she pictured the MMC as Henry Cavill (perhaps this accounts for the same initials for Hayden, HC, if not it is a pretty good coincidence) – but Daphne is a real one for that! For when does one not think of Henry Cavill as the face behind the love interest?
The only things I would have preferred would be if it was longer (only because I loved it so much), the omission of the no-kissing rule, and perhaps if a little spice was added. But I do not mind either way! The book works as it is, and the rule creates the right sort of tension. I seriously hope this gets made into a Hallmark film!
Classic “The Prince and the Pauper” lookalike trope meets celebrity fake dating vibes from contemporary novels like “Fake Dating Adrien Turner”, “The Love Wager” and “The Spanish Love Deception”. If you like any or all of them, give this a go!
I am honoured to have been selected as an ARC reader for this book, and I’d like to thank Daphne for the opportunity.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect. The Man Of My Dreams is told through Bree and Aiden's pov and is a great fake dating romance.
Bree is known for not having any plans at all and simply doing what feels right to her and taking advantage of the options that life has presented her. When she moves to New York, she thinks that all her dreams are going to come true yet finds her first days aren't going as she expected. Meeting Aiden, who happens to look like her celebrity crush, is one of the bright spots of her move. Unlike her, Aiden is someone who is careful and has life planned out - including saving and preparing to move away from New York. But, although he doesn't want to, he can't help but to feel a need to help Bree and be a part of her life.
Because of their situations, their romance was a slow burn. Their personalities were so different and it was fun to see them influence each other the more time that they spent together. I liked how Aiden fell first but fought his attraction to her. The romance is considered a clean one consisting of only kissing but a curse word is used twice. I liked the concept of the story and the descriptions of the city as it makes readers feel as if they are exploring alongside Bree. Overall, I enjoyed this book and think other readers will too.
An amazing story . This is the first book i read from Daphne James Huff and I loved it . Bree is a carefree young woman who just inherited an apartment in New York the city she always wanted to live . At her first day she get locked out of her apartment with no keys and no phone . When she decide to explore the city she come across her favourite movie star Hayden Carmichael and end she smacks into a door . What she doesn't know is that the man is not Hayden but Aiden a man who is looking exactly like him . At first he is giving her the first aid and then he is helping because she has noone to help her . Aiden later learn that she lives at the same building as he . When Hayden ask him the to pretent to be a couple with Bree for a month so he can with his new girlfriend , Aiden thinks is the chance to get the money to pay the mortage of the apartment so he can finally study to be veterinarian and leave New York and find a small town to live . While fake dating they both come closer and without realising it they fall for each other . What will happen when Hayden come sooner and asks them to stop all the dating ? Will they be able to reveal their true feelings ? I received this book from author and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
This was a first time read for my by this author and it definitely won't be my last. Brianna moves from a small town in Minnesota to New York hoping for the opportunity to follow her dreams. While there, she can't believe her luck when she runs into her celebrity crush, only it's not really him but his lookalike, Aiden. Aiden has lived in New York for years, and can't wait to leave the city he's grown to hate. He's just biding his time till he has enough money to do so. The opportunity presents itself when he is asked to fake date Brianna to keep the press off of the real celebrity's trail. It's win-win for all, Aiden gets the money he needs to leave and Brianna has a chance for a date with her celebrity crush. But as things start out all for show, the lines between fake and real start to blur and without their realizing it, their hearts become invested. This was such an adorably sweet and feel-good story and I just could not put it down. A charming and slow-burn romance that I had a lot of fun reading. Glad to have had the opportunity! My thanks to StoryOrigin for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest review.
“Man Of My Dreams” was such a great read. There was slow burn there, fake dating was there, was love at first sight, sunshine x grumpy… lots of fun tropes!! I really enjoyed Bree and Aiden’s story, a small town girl and a big city guy. The whole premise of Aiden being a celebrity look alike and (of course) Bree loving the celebrity he looks like was unique. There was a push and pull between them where one thought the other didn’t feel the same. It was nice to see Aiden’s attention to detail and Bree’s spontaneity and how the two of them sort of became more open to the other’s way of doing things. That was cool. Plus, Bree and Leigh’s friendship was so lovely. The fact that Leigh and Aiden operated in similar ways was a small bit nice though. Points for Aiden being an A+ date planner and points for time jump epilogue- those are my FAVORITE! All in all, a very cute and easy read.
I’m super thankful that I was given the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. Another ARC for the books! Go grab a cup of coffee from your local shop and read it too!🩷☕️
This story gave you a little of everything fake dating, love at first sight, sunshine x grumpy… all the tropes
I enjoyed Bree and Aiden’s story, a small town girl who has dreams of living in New York City since she was eight years old and a big city guy who can’t wait to leave.
On Bree first morning exploring the city she runs into who she believe to be her all time celebrity crush Hayden Carmichael… she soon learns it’s actually Aiden his celebrity look alike and of course he just so happens to have an apartment in her building.
Now while I did enjoy this story, both Bree and Aiden were a little annoying, I just keep waiting for them to tell each other how they felt! I loved all the dates Aiden planned, and how he tired to keep Ms.Wilson in check lol
Aiden like myself loves a list and a plan.. and Bree just go though life on vibes, I liked how they both were open to each other way of doing things.
Today is the release day so head over to KU and get it!!
I just loved this book from a new to me author. It is an opposites attract clean romance. Bree is a fly by the seat of your pants kind of gal and Aiden is a stickler for plans and schedules. Bree has had a lifelong dream of living in New York City and has had a crush on the actor, Hayden Carmichael, for just as long. Aiden is the spitting image of Hayden and has worked as a decoy for the actor on occasion. Bree has finally had her dream of moving to New York come true and when she inadvertently bumps into Aiden, the adventure truly begins! I loved the characters and the storyline flowed seamlessly. I will definitely be reading more from this author. I received an advanced review copy courtesy of StoryOrigin and this is my voluntary review.
This adorable romance totally sucked me in! I loved the celeb lookalike plot, the NYC setting, and the palpable chemistry between the two MCs. All of the dialogue and relationships felt really authentic/relatable to me, too. I definitely recommend Man of My Dreams to fellow rom-com watchers and anyone looking for a light, sweet read that’ll make you smile.
This is a fun, easy read. I loved the real characters and their budding romance. This book had a great writing style I really enjoyed and it held my interest through the whole book. It was a sweet, full of emotion and chemistry, hard to put down romance. Definitely recommend!
First book I read by this author sweet book with kisses only with all the tropes you love . I love the sweet moments and the banter through the book . I liked how the characters grew as the book progressed. Will be a repeat author for me.
This was a cute realistic fiction romance that had an adorable romance. I really liked the relationship between the two main characters in addition to the dialogue.
