This volume is an annual pleasure, and 2023 is no exception. Some of the more memorable entries include the magnificent Buried Treasure, which looks at Australia's relationship with the Antarctic, Alice Klein's The Whole Body Mystery, which explains PCOS, In the Shadow of the Fence, which looks at ecology through the lens of dingoes. Other topics covered range from Long Covid to space observation, to Indigenous astronomy. I had read a fair few when they came out, but all were worth a refresher. Science writing gets more important both as crises get more intense and as science gets further down a mass-computed mile from easily explicable. It is a great thing that Australia continues to celebrate it, even as modestly as this.
