It’s so hard to find good books for boys that engage the mind and encourage conversation. Author, Mateo Sommer, has done an excellent job of writing short stories that young boys and girls will understand and relate to.

Being yourself, self assurance, friendship, bullying, confidence, caring, kindness and more are topics addressed in this powerful book. Sommer doesn’t try to be a psychologist or use clinical language. He sets the stories in a grammar school using believable interactions between youngsters. Adults are included for support which I totally appreciate.

Each chapter has a few black and white illustrations that capture the key points of the story, done well by artist, Henrique C. Rampazzo. They each close with a grey box the summarizes the salient points giving adults a place to start conversations; very nice.

An excellent choice for family libraries📚

Well written with helpful life lessons for elementary age children

These stories are well written and engaging. Each has a lesson that is not preachy or too abstract. They deal with issues our children face. Each school-aged child is likely confronting more than one of the challenges presented in these stories, or will. I think seeing problem solving and life lessons through well-crafted stories is an excellent and useful way to learn.

I have been looking for educational, yet interactive books for my elementary school kid. It's so hard finding ones that aren't just junk. I wanted to read this first to make sure it was what I was looking for. This absolutely hit the mark. The story was cute, it balanced with pictures (for early readers) and the message behind it was great.

Engaging, page turner

The book kept me reading from chapter to chapter. I especially like that each chapter ends with a quick takeaway lesson. Those quick takeaways can easily be written down to refer to later. And prompt great conversations between kids. Or even between adults and kids.
Interesting and well written.

Realistic Look From A Kid's POV

I really enjoyed these short anecdotes that seemed told from real kids voicing their dreams, goals, fears, and most importantly, their values. Very refreshing book about self-esteem or the lack of it. Brave book all families should read together.

boys can be vulnerable too

Mateo’s stories are full of positivity. Growing up can be scary, and boys should be allowed to express how they feel - feelings of fear, lack of confidence and insecurities. Arise, my amazing boys indeed!!!
