Was inspired to read the book after a short conversation at SEEK with Fr Brent when he shared the book was the product of 20 years of wrestling with St Thomas and JP2 theology.

He did not ultimately reference either a lot, but more of seemed to take St Thomas and many Church father’s thought speak it through the modern theologian’s line of thought.

I enjoyed a lot of this though. Super basic in a good way. Could appeal to a wide audience. Like many other great Dominicans, Fr Brent is able to break down the more complicated points to the point where it seems like basic stuff.

Also super convenient that he mentions Greek terms like nous and logoismoi because I read about it in Rod Dreher’s book a couple weeks ago too!

This book accomplishes what it sets out to. Somewhat entry level, but is a great introduction to going deeper into understanding the Trinity, the indwelling, and contemplative prayer. Appreciated the ending where he ties together how the mystery of filial adoption leads to contemplative prayer. I think this book fills a gap where some books on prayer may be too advanced.

Strange as it may seem, this book was good, even though I gave it an average rating. The fault is mine, not the book's. This type of book is to read on retreat, or in Adoration, or actually any kind of quiet space.
Unfortunately, I read this waiting in a pick-up line, to pick up my grandchildren. Sometimes I read while waiting for an appointment. IOW, the atmosphere was not ideal.
Even so, I could see how this book would bring you into a deeper understanding, and following that, an intense relationship with God, the Blessed Trinity.
It's a small book and easily understandable. I recommend it.

A light spiritual read, though rich in content. His reflections on the 'Contemplata' podcast are a great intro/ reinforcement!
