Gritty streets, hard-boiled detectives, and dames that are trouble on two legs. Whether they're in a world that looks like ours but isn't, a futuristic setting, or a different planet altogether, these are the things that make a noir story.

Raconteur has a record of publishing fun entertaining stories. This is a collection of noir stories, often with a sci-fi element. One of the stories really annoyed me, but 9 out of 10 is a pretty good success rate.
As with most any anthology, there's some stories I really liked, some I liked and some I found ... eh. Overall, I'm giving the storytelling 4 stars (stories for me ranged from mostly 3s and 4s to one 5). But there are way too many glaring editing mistakes (wrong words, misspelled words, punctuation errors) for me to ignore. That's why I made my rating 3 stars. For me, those mistakes detracted enough to drop the rating.
Reading for research, mainly, because this press publishes themed anthologies year-round that I'd like to write for, and I am not that well-versed in the noir genre. It's interesting how people interpret it. The whole idea of this theme is to write something resembling old-school detective noir, but the women are not just damsels at the mercy of the mean, mean world.
