Let me be clear there is nothing wrong with this book up to this point. So far it is safe and I feel it will remain safe. They meet at a soccer camp (they both are getting signed to their respective men’s/women’s team and have a one night stand. I don’t think either wanted it to remain just a ONS. (Side note there are quite a few times mentioning him sucking her toes that night and I hate feet so to me that was a total turn off I mean feet are bad enough but athletes feet? 🤮). Book starts morning after the ONS. Anyway, He sees another man cornering her rubbing her face the next morning and makes assumptions but she was literally cornered by a high position man on her new team. It doesn’t even cross his mind she may need help he’s too busy feeling sorry for himself and deciding she’s a whore. He doesn’t confront her just ghosts her for a month. It isn’t flat out said but it seems very clear both were celibate during this month.

He doesn’t bother contacting her until he overhears his aunt (who works on heroines team) telling her hubby that one of her players is being made to feel uncomfortable and was assaulted (the cornering) by a higher up. I don’t think he would have ever contacted her again without overhearing this. Another turn off for me. Suddenly it clicks for him and he goes to apologize to the h. And she’s all “fuck me” almost right away. He refuses her every time bc he wants to get to know her and vice versa and doesn’t just want to be a distraction to her. Yet he’s constantly thinking he doesnt want to be “just friends”. 🤦🏼‍♀️

He ends up injured again (previous back injury-bulging discs) so watches her games. The asshole guy forces a kiss on her after an away game on public television. He picks her up from the airport and they have dinner (he’s so cute he wears a chauffeur hat and holds a sign with her name. A few days/weeks? Later he Takes her to dinner and the radio plays her situation on the news in his car on the way back to his place. They walk through the door and she starting begging him to fuck her again and he’s ready to turn her down again. I think he will this time. But I can’t handle women having to beg for a man to touch her, fuck her etc at that point I was just done. So I’m calling it at this point. Maybe I’ll come back to it someday. But today isn’t that day.

Also a personal note I’m used to my heroes being protective. I understand as an athlete himself he can’t do anything but I’m used to my heroes at least WANTING to kill or beat the shit out of anyone who hurts their woman. Or at least thinking it. So he’s pretty beta which isn’t my jam either.

Forging Glory is the first book in the Forging series, but it can be read as a standalone. There is a prequel novella, and while’s it’s not necessary to read to understand this book, it does give more background information.

This book deals with some heavy and serious themes around women’s sports (or just stuff women go through, in general).

I loved how hard Wes tried to make up for his mistake. He stepped up and did what he could to support Cara. But what I loved even more was how all the women stood up for Cara. The female empowerment.

That aside, Wes and Cara had great chemistry and they understood each other (after Wes realized his mistake).

Audio:
Narrators: Janine Granda and Bryant Walker
Style: Dual

These two also narrated the prequel novella, and they did a great job again. They really brought all the emotions and passion of the characters to life.

Starting of a new series but connected to previous Stag series as this is the next generation.

Wes really fights to be part of Cara's life once he realizes how much he royally screwed up after their epic level single night in California (there is a prequel novella that covers this but you don't have to read it). Once he's clued in to Cara's situation and feelings on his behaviour, he goes into full on grovel and takes it slow toward rebuilding trust. So even though our couple has already been intimate, this specific story is a slower burn since they are cautious about jumping in with both feet.

This book deals with some heavy topics around the world of female amateur and pro sports. The inequality between teams for equipment and funding, pay and respect, and of course the abuse of power by men in higher levels of the organization. Harassment is never ok and how much is "too much" is looked at in this story. Please be aware of this if you are sensitive to this topic, your well being and comfort matter.

The audiobook was performed by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker (they also performed the prequel duet). I enjoyed their performances. Janine was powerful in her vulnerability but also her willingness to stand up for herself where she could. Cara put Wes in his place at times and Janine's delivery was emotionally impactful for me. Bryant as Wes was a delight, the remorseful energy, the genuine "how do I make it better" grovel, the cluelessness of being a male in sport vs. seeing the reality in front of him, it was a great performance.

I requested and was provided with a copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.

Lainey Davis has a way of writing. I am not really a football (soccer) fan. Well sports in general. I felt a lot of excitement and joy for Cara and Wes with their teams. I wanted them to succeed. I felt that the characters flowed well. I enjoyed the main characters and even some side characters as well. I laughed and was worried at certain situations. There were some jarring parts where I felt the story was a bit slow paced for my liking. The romance between Wes and Cara were a little too slow in my opinion. I was not a fan of the back and forth between them. Overall it was good.

Thank you Netgalley and Author Collective 20 for letting me read Forging Glory. I appreciate it.

This was a such a good story, I loved Wes & Cara. Their personalities and chemistry, their ability to work through conflicts with each other, and hold each other up and support one another.
Wes’ family and Cara’s friends made this story so much better, they were all so proud and supportive.
Janine Granda, and Bryant Walker both did a wonderful job bringing the passion and emotions to life in this story. The hurt and pain feels so real and genuine, and the joy and happiness feels so authentic.

What a great read! Well done Lainey Davis for creating a moving and steamy love story which is also a thoughtful rumination on the inequalities and challenges of women's professional sport. This is a fictionalised account of the kiss controversy in the 2023 Women's World Cup soccer (football). It's topical and contemplative and brings to life just how devastating a small dose of inappropriate contact can be, especially when there is a power imbalance. Essentially, FMC Cara is at work, and this point is well made as she navigates the fall out from the conduct of Lou Rubeo, the all-powerful head of Soccer USA.

The novel tracks the budding relationship between young football players Wesley Stag and Cara Moreno, who have vastly different experiences in the men's and women's national teams. They find each other, and Wesley shows his mettle as a Stag, (Wes is the son of Thatch, one of the original Stag brothers). This is a standalone, set in Pittsburgh, USA, with Stag cameos that are fully realised, even if you haven't read the previous novels. Cara is Cuban American and her culture, friends and family contrast with all the Stags.

This is perfect for readers who like a point of view, and want more than just genre romance. That said, there's plenty of chemistry between Wes and Cara as they navigate each other and the pressures of Cara's situation. There's sweetness too, with dates, shared meals, caregiving and steam.

Thank you NetGalley, and the author for the ARC.

I adore Lainey Davis as well as her books (she’s got a great social media presence and newsletter)!

This, Forging Glory, her latest release, is another beautiful example of why she is such a brilliant author. She has in her author’s note at the end that she actually put aside her other work in progress when a true news story came out (something she sort of witnessed in reality when attending the women’s World Cup, downunder), and focused on turning that into the major theme of her new novel. It came out brilliantly and hopefully it will help shed light on the topic - not just in women’s sports, but in all workplaces.

I read the prequel novella about a month ago, which is pretty critical to see where everything in this book comes from - not just where Wes and Cara meet and their relationship begins at their weekend soccer training camp, but also the main inciting interaction between Cara and the character she has a huge conflict with that causes the humongous, life and potentially career altering, and certainly sport-altering experience that is the “big thing” in the story.

I won’t say more because it is such a big and important part of the plot and really can’t be summarized or talked about without giving the book away. Let’s just say that women are amazing, Lainey Davis is a special author and person, and absolutely every woman out there really needs to read this book. Heed the trigger warnings but still read it. It’s empowering. It’s incredible! I also totally love all the character crossovers and still have a few of her back catalogue to go back to read!

I cannot wait to get my ears on the audio version to re-read it in a few weeks!

I received an advance copy from NetGalley and Author Collective 20, and this is my honest feedback.

Updated in January after listening to the audio ALC copy from Home Cooked Books PR - narrated by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker, who did the prequel novella, they did another fantastic job! I’m enjoying these new voices and look forward to hearing a lot more from them. Great job on your picks, Lainey!

I love a second chance romance, and between two professional soccer players? Even better! Wes and Cara were adorable once they got it together. But this isn’t just a sweet sports romance/love story, it also deals with sexism and standing up for what is right. Wes is so supportive and Cara is an amazing FMC, I loved them. The side characters really added to it as well, they were awesome. I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker. Both were amazing and gave perfect performances, I look forward to listening to more from them!

Sports romance meets the social zeitgeist…

Story: 4 ⭐s
Narration: 4.5 ⭐️s

This was my first Lainey Davis book and it was very enjoyable. Kara and Wes are the MCs, and they are well-marched. This was a unique sports romance, in that both MCs were professional athletes (pro soccer players), and in that the major plot emphasized a very timely social issue - harassment of women in their profession. I thought Davis handled this with a deft hand, presenting the struggles women all-too-often face when they make their living in a traditionally male-centric field. Cara is just excited to play the game she loves, just trying to do her job, when she’s cornered by the all too prevalent and toxic boys’ club/locker room entitlement. When she pushes back, she is not believed doubted and blamed. Representation of such experiences, even in fiction, is important; maybe if we see it enough, society can get to a point where the gut responses to harassment are not silence or lack of belief, and it won’t take a hashtag trend or industry boycott to hold harassers accountable. It was utterly satisfying to see how many in the story rallied to support Cara and hold her harasser responsible. Kudos to Davis for making FG not just a solid sports romance, but one with such an important stance.

The story benefits from a really good audiobook. Janine Granda or Bryant Walker are two new-to-me narrators. Both did a very good job, especially Granda, who brought so much range to her performance of Cara, who goes through quite a lot (yes that’s understatement) in this book. I think if anything, the romance took a backseat in a lot of ways to the emotional and professional struggles that Cara had to deal with. So, this often felt more like her story than the story of her relationship with Wes, who was kind of sidelined at times. There is a set up of him having an injury or illness from childhood, but I felt that didn’t really get developed in a way that I understood the impact on his life compared to Cara’s experiences. Cara’s professional trials, as well as her struggles with her very traditional parents, seemed more nuanced to me. I’ve seen from other reviews that this is a second generation series, and that Wes’s family was the focus of previous stories, so maybe if I had read those I would have a better grasp of Wes’s background? Since this felt more like Cara’s story, Granda had a lot of heavy lifting to do with her narration in terms of the emotional weight of the plot and character beats, and she did so with great skill. That’s not to say that Walker did not do a good job with what he was given for Wes. He definitely has an appealing style and he’s certainly has a gift for the dirty talk. Cara and Wes have scorching physical compatibility, so this was a very smexy book. And while I wish that the MCs had been equally well developed, this is still a great audio.

Overall, I do recommend this one, especially if you enjoy a sports romance that tackles not just the love lives of the players, but the professional problems they can face.

I received an ALC copy of the audiobook via Home Cooked Books. All opinions are my own.

Forging Glory is book one in the Stag Generations series and is the high stakes, second chance, story of courage and fighting for what is right, sports romance.
This book picks up from prequel Forging Passion were Wes and Cara met at soccer camp and had one hot, steamy, passionate night together and really connected with each other. However, the following morning, Wes witnessed an extremely uncomfortable incident for Cara in the lobby of the hotel that he misinterpreted and immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion and ghosted her. Fast forward a month and they are both playing professional soccer in the same town. Cara has confided in one of her coaches about the incident in the lobby hotel and about how she felt the man who is in a position of power in soccer abused his position and crossed a line. The coach she told turns out to be none other than Wes’ Aunt Lucy and during a meal where the entire Stag family comes together, he overhears Lucy telling her husband about the situation and flees the dinner to go find Cara to apologise for his behaviour. The two make up and spend time reconnecting before Cara is sent off to play in Europe and that is when the same guy from the hotel who is a powerful man in the world of soccer makes his move, on national TV he kisses her on the lips in front of thousands of people watching in the stadium and at home! Cara is mortified and faces media scrutiny over her reaction to the incident. Every little thing she does and has done is put under a microscope! However, this is Wes’ chance to step up and prove himself. To prove he’s learned from the first time he saw an incident between Cara and the guy, to stand shoulder to shoulder with her and go to bat for her against his teammates who bad mouth her and say she is the problem, to go on record with the press that he is behind her all the way but above all else, will Wes put Cara before his big break?
The fabulous Janine Granda and Bryant Walker reprise their roles as Cara and Wes and my goodness, they nailed it!
Ms Granda’s performance as talented soccer player Cara who just wants to play the game she loves but ends up caught in a media storm through no fault of her own was spectacular!
Mr Walkers portrayal of the pro soccer player Wes who was so enamoured with Cara his jealously got the better of him until he stepped up and went to bat for his girl against his team and the media was superb!
Overall, I loved this audiobook. Lainey Davis is a one click author for me and as soccer (football in England) is the sport of my country I loved getting to read about it. Ms Davis chose to highlight women’s soccer that has become widely popular over the last 4 years, more so Ms Davis has brought to the forefront a topic that was huge in the world of sport last year and handled it with the utmost care and respect but still hammered home the point that there is a lot of work to be done when it comes to equality in sports especially influential men in powerful positions taking advantage of women.
You need this audiobook in your earbuds immediately so be sure to be grab a copy today.

So much more than a sports romance!

I have been looking forward to this book since the prequel Forging Passions and it was well worth the wait!

This book picks up a month after Wes and Cara first meet at a soccer camp where they had a passion filled night together and really connected with each other. Unfortunately, the following morning, Wes witnessed a very uncomfortable incident for Cara that he misinterpreted and assumed she was not who he thought she was. A month later, they are both playing professional soccer in the same town, and when Wes finally realizes he had been mistaken, they reconnect. But when a powerful man in sports takes advantage of Cara when her guard is down in front of thousands of people, she faces a media firestorm she never expected. Wes gets the chance to prove he learned his lesson the first time and stands by her side.

This was an incredibly impactful story. It really is more than a typical sports romance and touches on differences in women and men’s sports and powerful and influential men taking advantage of women. I think Lainey Davis did a phenomenal job really balancing this story and how she handled a topic that many people might face not just in sports or a high profile situation but in ordinary every day life or jobs. One thing I loved the most about Cara is she never questioned her hard work or abilities and didn’t let anyone stop her from going after her dreams, even with her parents not as supportive of those dreams. She was a strong woman, but even the strongest can be shaken in certain situations, but that doesn’t make you any less strong, and I think Cara really showed that throughout. Make no mistake though this was not just about Cara and what she went through this is a romance and I really fell in love with Wes and Cara, he may have started off as an idiot by jumping to conclusions and not communicating but he showed how much he truly cared about her. I loved their interactions and flirty banter.  They had such great chemistry, and I really loved how they built their relationship.

Bryant Walker and Janine Granda (who also narrated the prequel) were outstanding in their performances. I really need to applaud Janine Granda. There were moments in this book that I really felt like I was sitting beside Cara wanting to reach out and hug her. Janine just did such a remarkable job bringing so many different emotions to life in a heart touching way. They are both narrators I’ll be on the lookout for in other books.

I would definitely recommend snagging this one!! and if I could also suggest signing up for Lainey Davis newsletter for access to a bonus Epilogue of Wes and Cara that is oh so spicy!

Wonderful Story & Narration🎧 Engrossing & Heartfelt!

FORGING GLORY
By: Lainey Davis
Narrated by: Janine Granda & Bryant Walker

Lainey Davis pens another wonderful sports romance, a second chance romance that not only captivates your attention, but tugs on your heartstrings too. I loved her “Stag Brothers” series, and it is great to revisit the amazing world she created with a second generation of Stags. “Forging Glory” is Wesley “Wes” Stag’s and Cara Moreno’s story, two athletes focusing on their careers. They had a steamy affair, but when Wes sees Cara the next morning in what looked like an intimate moment with Lou Rubio, the president of the soccer association, he went the other way and never spoke to her again. Cara did not appreciate Lou’s attention or his free hands and she had a feeling Wes saw that, jumped to the wrong conclusion and judged her for it. It was not until he heard his aunt talking about the unwanted advances that Wes realized he read the situation all wrong. He went to her and groveled for her forgiveness. The chemistry between them was explosive and undeniable, but he wanted to prove himself to her and win her back. Davis does an amazing job touching on the inequality for women athletes compared to the men and how it is for them to be in a man’s world. Loved that Wes showed his support for her and the women’s league, despite his team not being on board. I loved how everything played out in this book, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. There is never a dull moment, and the story has the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. I also loved her roommate, who had a way with words and lightened things up with her witty comebacks. The camaraderie amongst her teammates was fabulous, and it was great to see some characters from the original series. Lainey Davis, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Janine Granda and Bryant Walker are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Granda nailed it as Cara, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her insecurities to her fierceness, and Walker does the same for Wes, who was not afraid to bring out and show his caring and supporting side. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of all the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fantastic listen.

Soccer Pittsburgh Forge rookie Wesley Stag still thinks of Cara Moreno, who plays for Hot Metal team, the women’s Pittsburgh team, and with whom he shared a steamy night of pleasure and passion. He was all in until he saw her cozying up to Lou Ruben, president of Soccer USA, so he ghosted her, but they still see each other every day on the practice field. Cara tries to talk with Wes, but he’s having nothing to do with her until he hears from his Aunt Lucy, who coaches Cara, that she, along with her roommate Jay, has been selected to the national team and that Cara feels “uncomfortable” around Lou Ruben. Could he have made a mistake about what he saw?

Finally they reconcile and make plans to see each other play and provide support that neither set of their parents affords them. Meanwhile, Cara has confided her concerns about Ruben to Coach Lucy, and they agree to make sure he is never alone with Cara. Then disaster befalls Wes as his herniated disc comes back with a vengeance during his professional debut, and he is relegated to injured reserve status.

No spoiler alerts here but suffice to say that this story is so yummy, it is unputdownable. I devoured all the details that allow me and other readers to feel a part of the Forge and Hot Metal teams, and the sizzle between Wes and Cara is off the charts! So, ride along with our couple as they navigate the waters of professional soccer, unsupportive parents, Olympic competition, inappropriate advances, and a budding relationship, which is breathtakingly beautiful! If you are a fan of sports, romance, or both, grab a copy of Forging Glory and enjoy!

Kudos to Lainey Davis for tackling difficult but real topics, this time revealing the way some in-charge men feel entitled to harass and abuse female colleagues. While some face repercussions from such behavior, many more are given a pass, which is deplorable in today’s culture. Also, Davis clearly feels that when something like this happens, turning to close friends and mental health professionals for support is not a sign of weakness but rather one of strength. Would that more could see the value.

I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily offer my honest opinion.

Lainey Davis writes one heck of a sexy love story, but she also never hesitates to tackle the tough subjects. The Stag family is tough, too, and we’ll see just how much so in
Forging Glory, the first book in the Stag Brothers Forging series. Forging Glory picks up right where Forging Passion, the series prequel, left off. Wes has just seen Cara in what looks like a mutually cozy position with a high-powered executive and he makes the logical conclusion: the shared closeness they experience the night before was in his mind only; she’s really just a fickle party girl and he harshly rejects her overtures at friendship from that point on. Well, that conclusion might have seemed logical in the moment, but it was small-minded and unfair.

Lou Rubeo gives off pervy vibes the first and every subsequent time we see him. He’s a powerful man, the president of Soccer USA, who uses his power and position to intimidate, threaten and assault young female players. He’s a predator, plain and simple, but his title and the authority it carries wrap a thick layer of protection around him. Cara wasn’t even sure who he was when he first approached her, wrapping his arm around her, touching her face, all without invitation or consent. Wes’s aunt Lucy is Cara’s coach, and when Cara finally finds the courage to share her story with Lucy and when Lucy raises the issue higher, Lucy is demoted and then fired.

It's at this point Wes finds out just how wrong his “logical” conclusion was. He is appalled, at those in power pulling the strings but mostly at himself. He’s ashamed, saddened at how he misjudged and hurt Lucy and vows to make things right, even if she will never trust him again and the promise of what might be never comes true.

Author Davis masterfully takes this thread of abuse of power, deceit, and actions that until now have had no consequences and surrounds it with her usual riveting dialogue, funny scenes, intriguing characters and steamy romance. When Cara and the women’s team decide to fight back Wes stands at her side, but will he be able to continue standing there if it comes down to a choice between his career and the woman he loves?

Forging Glory is a wonderful read. It has it all: more time with the loyal, supportive, strong, welcoming Stag family, a couple who must absolutely end up together, a lot of humor, a lot of heat. This is a series you do not want to miss. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

2.5/🌶️

Get ready for a high-stakes, sizzling sports romance in Forging Glory by Lainey Davis.

Cara Moreno, joins the city's women's soccer team. Cara reveals a dark secret – the most powerful man in the sport is out to ruin her career, both professionally and personally. Wes once doubted her and pushed her away, but became determined to make things right and protect her.

Exposing the truth means risking his career, With both their futures hanging in the balance, He is ready to risk it all and bring the truth to light. Losing her once was devastating, and he won't let it happen again.

This love story is so sweet and hit me right in the feels! I loved the second chance love in this story and how Wes tries so hard to help and protect her.

The author doesn't shy away from the tough stuff. Shining a light on how some guys in charge think they can get away with treating their female colleagues like garbage and do things to woman that make them uncomfortable and feel violated. It's infuriating but sadly so damn real. Props to the author for tackling this issue and making it a central part of the story.

And here's the "kicker", she doesn't just leave it there. She sends a powerful message that seeking help, whether from friends or mental health professionals, is a sign of strength, not weakness. In a world where people sometimes brush these things under the rug, Davis says, "Nah, let's talk about it and support each other."

Let's talk about the audiobook narrators. They nailed it! 👏 The way they brought the characters to life added a whole new dimension to the story. I could listen to those voices all day, every day.

All in all, Forging Glory isn't just a romance novel (although the love story is really cute). It's a journey that hits you in the gut, makes you question things, and leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling. Major props to Lainey Davis for crafting a story that's as real as it gets. Highly recommend giving this one a spin! 📚✨

**Audiobook Review**

I've been waiting for the next generation of the Stag family, and I loved the start to this series. "Forging Glory" is an emotional, heartfelt and powerful frenemies to lovers soccer romance that was so good.

Cara Moreno and Wesley Stag met at a tryout for their professional soccer teams and had a night together. But after a misunderstanding, they parted on bad terms. Now they both are playing for the professional soccer teams in Pittsburgh. The chemistry that they shared is still there, but both are hesitant to have something more, especially with their careers just starting. And when a high-ranking Soccer official takes advantage of Cara at a critical moment in her career, Cara is thrown into the media fire when she speaks out for herself.

I loved this story so much and couldn't get over how powerful it is. The plot was taken from real life headlines that impacted so many women when it first happened. I loved Cara in the prequel novella and my admiration grew for her even more as I listened to this story. Cara is smart, genuine and passionate about her career. Instead of hiding, she stayed strong and made her feelings known. I admired how she let her feelings out and made sure that she spoke out about it. Wes was so supportive and made sure he knew that she had his support through it all. He was her biggest fan and I loved how he and his family supported her games and made sure to watch them all. They had a connection through soccer, and it ran so much deeper than that. Cora's roommate, Jay, was so amazing and everyone needs a friend like her. I loved this story and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Janine Granda and Bryant Walker narrated this story and I loved listening to them bringing this story to life. Janine had so much passion as Cara and portrayed her emotions of what she was going through perfectly. Bryant was the perfect choice to narrate Wes and did a great job portraying how supportive he was with Cara.

FORGING GLORY
Forging #1
by Lainey Davis
Narrated by Janine Granda & Bryant Walker

I cannot say how much I love to listen to sports romance, especially when it's soccer. It's my family's favorite sport, and each time Lainey Davis releases one, I jump on it! This book follows the prequel, Forging Passion and I am following the budding careers and romance of Cara and Wes. This book picks up where they left off and after a fantastic start to their relationship, Wes now sees something and jumps to a conclusion. But is it the right one? Cara is set to realize her dream. Moving quickly up the ranks with her talent and skill, she is headed for the USA Olympic team. And she and Wes are back together, and she is supporting him while he is working to get back on he field. A kiss in front of the cameras from Lou Rubeo has her questioning if she should continue. With the support of Wes and so many others, she is on a mission. Will these two both succeed in their quests to play professional soccer and also be able to maintain a relationship? I love the this story for so many reasons. Davis has the base of the Stag family and they are a force. Seeing so many of them in the new generation is a pleasure, like coming home. Cara's struggle is a relevant issue and her taking it on with the Stag support made it truly feel like anything is possible. This is a feel good, wonderful new adult book and I cannot wait to meet more of this next generation!

Bryant Walker and Janine Granda continue their storytelling of this couple and they are perfectly cast. Walker is determined and steadfast in his love as Wes. Granda is scared, frustrated and intent through her issues. The two combine a chemistry with Wes and Cara that is strong and passionate. Loved these two and enjoyed their story.

Narrated by Janine Granda & Bryant Walker

Oh goodie! I’ve been waiting for Cara and Wes to finally get together and Lainey Davis’ story brings it all together and then some. And those of you who loved Davis’ Stag Brother Series, will enjoy this Next Gen series. (Wes is Emma and Thatcher’s son from Fragile Illusion)

Forging Glory is the follow up book from the prequal novella, Forging Passion.
In the novella, two soccer athletes, Cara and Wes, on the cusp of going pro, had one hot night that ends in a misunderstanding and both go their separate ways. Now they meet up again as professional players in book 1 and the strong attraction is still very much explosive.
But Cara’s career is in jeopardy because of a sexual harassment incident that happened to her and could affect the female soccer world around her. This is a key part of the story and weaves in well with the rekindling romance she and Wes have started again. But their relationship is tested when things get hard. I loved watching the fall for each other again and explore their deeper feelings. Wes, is such a sexy sweetheart. I love how he cares for her.

Lainey Davis does a great job writing about this controversial subject of women’s inequality in sports. This is not glossed over in the book and takes a hard look at that male dominated world of sports and how it impacts the women who play the game and work in the industry.

This audio is narrated by Janine Granda & Bryant Walker
Granda delivered a convincing Cara who’s dealing with so many emotions throughout the book. Bryant does a really good job. He truly sold me on how much Wes really cares for Cara. and I really love his female voice.

Forging Glory by Lainey Davis
🎤Narrated by Janine Granda & Bryant Walker

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
Narration 🎤🎤🎤🎤.5

This is the first book in a new series but is connected to the Stag series, only now we’re being introduced to the younger Stag generation. However there’s no need to read/listen to them to start this series. Though I’d encourage reading/listening to the novella Forging Passion before starting Forging Glory as it sets up the future story for Wes and Cara and issues that Cara must deal with in women’s sports.

In Forging Glory we meet back up with Wes and Cara who are now playing professional soccer. Wes has basically ghosted Cara due to a misunderstanding that happens in short prequel. However it doesn’t take long for Wes to find out that he completely misinterpreted the entire interaction and Cara was in an uncomfortable situation with a man in a position of power within the soccer organization. Once Wes realizes this he does everything he can to make it up to Cara.

This book is an amazing look into how women are sometimes treated not only in sports but in so many professions. Lainey Davis does a fantastic job of taking real life situations and brining them to the forefront through her writing. For that alone this book is worth the read/listen. Both Janine Granda & Bryant Walker did a great job with their narration and were perfection at outing the right amount of emotions and feelings into their work making these characters feel real. I truly enjoyed all the characters in the books, not only Wes and Cara but both their families as well.

Wowza, I loved Forging Glory by Lainey Davis! Book one in Lainey’s new Stag Generations series, Forging Glory is full of Stag family cameos and charming family moments with beloved established characters. Visiting the Stag family is always a fun, heartfelt time. When aspiring pro soccer players Cara Moreno and Wesley Stag spent a scorching hot night together at prospect camp, neither expected the instant connection and lasting impact. But when a misunderstanding was too much for Wes, he tried to erase Cara from his thoughts and focused on his game. When he signs a contract with his home team, it’s hard to avoid the beguiling woman he left behind. I enjoyed Wes & Cara’s ability to find common ground and build a friendship through their shared love of the game. Cara’s passion for the game, player equality and anti-harassment in professional sports is bound to light a fire in any reader’s heart. I loved the way the Stag family, her teammates, and Wes rallied around Cara. Everyone needs friends like Cara’s besties! Ms. Davis’ poignant story shines a spotlight on deplorable behavior within professional sports franchises. The reality she wove into this wonderful love story was riveting.

Janine Granda and Bryant Walker’s charming, genuine, passionate performances brought Forging Glory to life beautifully. Janine’s portrayal of the dedicated, sweet, sassy, inspirational, and authentic Cara was lovely. Brayant captured the brooding, driven, compassionate cinnamon roll Wes perfectly. If you enjoy heartfelt, thought-provoking, steamy, big family sports romance, get Forging Glory in your ears now!

What a complex and wonderful romance with a ripped-from-the-headlines feeling. Lainey Davis created not only a wonderful story, but they addressed the topic of sexual harassment with compassion, and as a result you just loved Cara and Wes so, so much.

This is a second generation Stagg family book, and Wes and Cara's romance starts in the prequel novella Forging Passion, where they explore their immediate connection, but their romance doesn't get off the ground. If you read or listen to that book first, you understand how truly explosive and undeniable their connection is, and you mourn for their separation. The good news is, they're not apart for too long, but a lot of hurt and a lot of emotions needs to be addressed for them to move forward.

This sports romance takes place in the Team USA soccer world, and does tackle sexual harassment in the workplace, so please note this content warning. Lainey Davis really does treat the subject well, showing us multiple types of denial, reluctance to report, victim shaming and the helplessness of others.

The audio, narrated by Janine Granda, and Bryant Walker, was wonderful. You could feel their pain, disappointment and suffering, as well as their passion, humor and love. The portrayal came across as so authentic, and it really added to the experience.

This book continues the story of Cara and Wes. At the end of Forging Passion, Wes mistakes an unwanted advance towards Cara as her moving on from whatever it was they were starting. Wes is hurt and snubs Cara. A twist of fate has them both ending up joining professional soccer teams for the same city. This means they constantly see each other. Through his aunt Lucy, which is one of Cara’s coaches, Wes finds out that what he saw was actually Cara being touched inappropriately and against her will. This book tackles the hurt, fear, and rage of being put into a situation where a woman is judged unfairly for speaking out against unwanted advances and men treating it like it is no big deal. Even though soccer is the most important thing to Cara, she chooses to jeopardize her career by continuing to speak out against the assault after others have shared that they too have been in a similar situation with the man in question. I love how Cara and Wes continue to support each other through all the difficult situations that they face in this book.

Once again the audiobook is done so well by Blue Nose Audio and narrated by Janine Granda and Brant Walker. Their voices are perfect for the young, yet driven duo.

Audiobook review: Narrated by Janine Granda and Bryant Walker

4.5 stars for story / 4.5 stars for performance

This is a refreshing take on a sports romance. First, it focuses on soccer, which I wish there were more romances around this world. Second, while both MCs are soccer players, Cara, the FMC, is the real star here. What's even better though, is the profound subject matter of the plot. Wes and Cara have a ONS with potential for more but Wes saw something the morning after that he misinterpreted. Months later, just as the two are getting to know each again, Cara is put in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons which puts a strain on her career and her personal life. I don't want to give too many spoilers but I highly recommend this book if you like a plot heavy romance that will have your emotions all over the place.

The narration was so good and with an emotionally charged book like this one it's important to feel the narrators really owning these characters. The inflections and smallest nuances really made a big difference in the listening experience and I will be on the lookout for these two again in the future.

Such a great book!

Being a woman is sometimes so difficult and this book shows that to perfection. Men earn more than us even if we do the same job. As someone pointed out in this book, the USA female soccer national team has a better performance than the male and they earn so much less and don't have as many advantages as them. How do I know this? I'm a huge soccer fan!

I have been lucky and never have felt insecure while I'm working. But my parents weren't as strict as Cara's so I know how to defend myself in case it happens, but I understand her situation because this have happened to some of my friends and it can turn bad. I was so happy when Wes realized what had actually happened that I cried... and he ends up being one of the most important parts of her support system during this fight.

I believe women should read this book, even if they have passed through something similar. It make me feel that if this happens to me, I will have some pointers on how to recover from it and how to procede so it never happens again. But again, I have never been harrassed, so maybe read it with caution and put aside every time you feel uncomfortable.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

Forging Glory is book #1 in the Forging series. You do not have to read the prequel, Forging Passion, because enough backstory is included in this one to get you started. Wes and Cara are both athletes trying to score a position on a professional soccer team. Wes is offspring of the Stag Brothers series by this author (another great series) so he comes from an athletic legacy. Cara is Cuban-American and a phenomenal player trying to compete in a male dominated sport. Parts of this story feel like they have been ripped from the headlines, so it was enjoyable. It did drag in spots for me. Can't wait for the rest of the series! **There is a bonus epilogue that can be found at the authors website: laineydavis.com

The narration was the same as the prequel, so that is great in my book. Janine Granda and Bryant Walker were exceptional. 5 striking stars for them once again!

Cara met Wesley when they were at tryouts for their respective teams and before the tryouts were over, they gave in to the chemistry between them. After Wes misread an uncomfortable between her and a powerful man in the field of soccer, he refused her calls and now she wants nothing to do with him, but fate has other ideas.

The night that Wes spent with Cara was unforgettable and he has been doing his best to avoid her ever since until he realizes that what he thinks he saw was very different that what happened. They now find themselves in the regrettable position where doing what is right could end the dreams they had for their future.

Cara and Wesley’s love of soccer not only brought them together but gives them a real understanding of the challenges they are both facing both when it comes to the inequality between men and women and in sports. The narrators were the perfect choice for the characters as you could feel every emotion that the characters were feeling.

Extraordinarily Awe-Inspiring

Please tell me how I have gone this long without reading a Lainey Davis book. This book will be living rent free in my brain for a long while. The message is clear and magnificently written. I usually read the romance novels for the spice first and the plot second, but this was a wonderfully backwards experience for me as I was totally engrossed in the plot! I felt the rage, frustration, hate, sorrow, guilt, and love flowing from this story as if I was there. I am so overwhelmed with happiness that I read this book! I will definitely be reading the remaining books in this series, and then some. I may have just found a new favorite author to follow!!! Wes and Cara play professional soccer. They seemed to be headed in the same direction directions and be on the same page until something shatters that for them. Please go read this book. You won’t regret it!
