Death descends on my family's diner and only I can find the killer before we lose everything.
I've run Woods Family Restaurant in sleepy Timber Creek, Idaho for years without drama beyond the occasional dine-and-dash. But when the retiring school principal drops dead from an apparent poisoning at her celebratory dinner here, rumors swirl that my cooking is to blame. With business crashing and the sheriff eyeing me as suspect number one, I know I have to find the real killer fast, or the diner my grandparents built—the heart of our whole town—could be gone for good.
If only I could remember how my grandparents solved a murder mystery of their own back in the 70s. But asking my tight-lipped aunt for details gets me nowhere. So with just my faithful Australian Shepherd mix, Cider, by my side, I start digging into the eccentric locals at the principal's party. Between the shady vice principal, the petty treasurer gunning for her job, and even the mayor's wife out for gossip, anyone could be hiding deadly secrets.
Things get more complicated when my childhood crush, Chase, returns to town, stirring up old feelings. Together, we follow Cider's keen nose through the pines, chasing clues that loop from bitter rivalries to tragic romance and back again. But when I narrowly escape getting shot in the woods near the victim's home, I know the killer's ready to strike again. Can I solve the toxic web of motives in Timber Creek before we all take our last bites?

Taking over the family diner is a dream come true for Willow. When the guest of honor falls face first into her mashed potatoes at a retirement dinner, and rumors fly that her cooking is to blame, Willow is on the case. After all, her grandparents once solved a murder, surely she can do the same. With business falling at the diner, can she find the answers fast enough to save her family’s legacy? Leaving her brother Dane to keep the diner running and her trusty dog, Cider, by her side, Willow searches for clues among the guests at the dinner. Running into her high school crush, Chase, who’s newly returned to town is a welcome surprise. Even more so as he supports her in her sleuthing and supplies a vital clue.
A promising start to a new series. Willow is an engaging character with determination and intelligence. The relationship with her brother is realistic with a mixture of teasing and support. Cider is an adorable sidekick and Chase makes a nice love interest.

I really enjoyed meeting Willow, Dane, Chase and most of all, Willow’s sweet pup Cider who was pretty talented in protecting and taking care of her momma as she proved a couple times especially during the showdown. While it wasn’t the smartest thing to do when she went to face a killer, Willow did at least have her trusty Aussie shepherd with her.
In some spots the story seemed to go a little extra slow, but the showdown made up for it. I’ll definitely be reading the next book as I’m really hoping Chase and Willow become an official couple. They definitely sleuthed well together and he was a big help at the diner.

a family run diner in a small town depends on the good will of the community- tourists alone will not keep them running
when tragedy strikes, will the community support them?
can a chef and friends and family unravel mysteries and a whodunnit in time to keep afloat, or will the diner or the chef be the next victim?
charming characters collide with small town power mongers and greedy folks
