विक्रम गोखले बंबई का कैसानोवा था । सरकारी गाइड था पर्यटकों को घुमाता था, लेकिन असल मे ठग था। शादीशुदा होने के बावजूद वो एक बीवी कतरा था, अय्याशी के बाद पैसा जेवर लूट कर चंपत होने मे माहिर था। फिर एक दिन उसे सवा शेर मिल गया। नशे मे बेसुध दो दिनों तक चली अय्याशी के बाद जब वो नींद से जागा तो उसने अपने आपको एक याट के बंद कमरे मे पाया। उसकी संगिनी का कोई पता नहीं था लेकिन उसके खून से रंगे कपड़े वही थे। वो खुद खून से सना हुआ था। उसे खुद नहीं मालूम था की उसके हाथों क्या हुआ है। लेकिन वो एक ही बात रट रहा था की उसने कत्ल नहीं किया है। सरकारी वकील संजीव कमलानी को पूरा यकीन था की खून उसी ने किया है। इस जघन्य हत्या के लिए उसने विक्रम के लिए फांसी की मांग की लोअर कोर्ट से और फिर हाइ कोर्ट से उसकी तसदीक भी करवाई। लेकिन विक्रम के वृद्ध वकील ने उसकी जीत की घड़ी मे उसके रंग मे भंग डाल दिया ये कह कर की मृतका की लाश बरामद नहीं हुई है, यदि कल को वो वापिस आ गयी तो उसके मुवक्किल का खून संजीव के सर होगा।
संजीव चिंतित हो उठता है। बदलते हालात उसको ऐसे फंसा देते हैं की विक्रम को बेकसूर साबित करने से ही उसकी अपनी जान बच सकती थी। किसी के इंतकाम मे उलझा वो एक ऐसी औरत को तलाश करने को मजबूर होता है जिसके बारे मे सभी का मानना था की वो उस याट के बंद कमरे से जिंदा बाहर निकल ही नहीं सकती थी।
"इंतकाम" पाठक साहब की विशिष्ट शैली मे रचा हुआ एक बेहतरीन शाहकार है। ये मुख्यतः एक घटना प्रधान नॉवेल है, जिसमे तेज़ रफ्तार से घटती घटनायें अंत तक बांधे रखती हैं। ये नॉवेल भी उसी श्रेणी का है जिसमे सर्वोपरि "मेरी जान के दुश्मन है" । ये सस्पेन्स पर आधारित नहीं वरन रोमांच पर ज़ोर ज्यादा है। कहानी सन 70 के दशक के फिल्मों सरीखी है और उसी तरह एक चलचित्र की तरह आँखों के सामने पढ़ते हुए चलती है। इस नॉवेल मे भी एक अच्छी फिल्म बन सकने के सारे तत्व प्रेमकहानी समेत मौजूद हैं। इसे एक नॉवेल की तरह पढ़ेंगे तो शायद पूरा आनंद न आए, लेकिन एक फिल्म के रूप मे इसकी परिकल्पना करते हुए पढ़ेंगे तो इस कहानी का असली लुत्फ उठा पाएंगे।
कहानी का कैनवास बहुत बड़ा नहीं है। पात्रों की अधिकता नहीं है। लेकिन इस नॉवेल मे असली कमी इसके पेजों का बहुत कम होना है। कहानी का जल्द खतम होना अखरता है 300 से कम पेज तो अब समझ मे ही नहीं आते।

Inteqaam - The Revenge.
A Casanova traps a women. A resplendent, splendid, splendiferous and rich women.
He is after her jewels and her body.
The gorgeous lovely pretty women traps the Casanova.
She is planning something bigger.
They land in a Yatch, of which the owner is the husband of that women.
The fun party starts.
Coitus, copulation, intimacy, lovemaking, relations and sleeping around.
But - Then something goes terribly wrong.
The women is found missing from a closed cabin of that Yatch. The Casanova is blamed for killing the women and cutting its body to throw it into the sea.
Strong circumstantial evidences are against him.
Here comes the Protagonist. A Lawyer.
The Lawyer who has worked very hard to prove that the Casanova is responsible for the Murder.
The Casanova is then awarded the death sentence.
Well and good until now.
But what if - if the women, claimed to be murdered, comes back.
Can a person be awarded a death sentence if there has been no dead body found.
The story runs like a jigsaw puzzle with all the twists and tale.
An astonishing, breathtaking, daunting, and formidable piece of work.

A great story with everything in it. A heart pounding thrill, nerve wrecking suspense, amazing pace and above all a great romance.
