The setting of standards for early education (preschool) is a current trend with all the state funded programs and Head Start, plus the preschool that are now part of public school systems. Teachers in these programs are required to connect lesson plans with the state standards and be able to articulate how a lesson plan meets a state standard. Making Early Learning Standards Come Alive: Connecting Your Practice and Curriculum to State Guidelines is an excellent reference for early childhood educators.
