I picked this book because I like zombie books and it was based in Alaska. I didn’t know when I got it that Juneau would be in it. As a Juneauite, this was kind of entertaining but did not really raise my star rating. I may have been expecting too much as I have read a fair amount of zbooks.

What I liked: it was fun seeing my town in the book, the author knew a lot about Southeast Alaska, there were some chuckles. I did keep reading which brought the star rating up to 3.5 stars, (since Goodreads doesn’t let you do half stars I’ll round up to 4 here). It was a fast read.

What I didn’t like: there are some minor issues, a couple of wrong words and using miles instead of knots when talking boat speed. At times I felt like I was reading a short story by J-D student rather than a book by an adult. It felt juvenile to me. I’m not sure what the author was going for. There wasn’t a lot of zombie action and I really didn’t get the zombie vampire thing, (the slugs of Tenakee I understood, haha).

It was entertaining in a weird way. I think it was good as a first attempt. The author could spend some time on developing the characters a bit and adding in some action. Perhaps exploring the zombie vampire thing which was different and might be interesting. Basically the action came from the military as they attempted, but failed, several times to take out these five people. I would have liked to get a feel for who these people are so I could care about them. I would have also liked to know what was happening from the military view.
If you are looking at a light, non serious, way to pass a couple of hours, this book is fine for it. If you are looking for something a bit serious and with a bite to it, you may not be happy with this.
