The Taming of the Scrooge

Rate this book
It’s my grumpy boss’s worst nightmare—and my dream come true. Now, hand me that mistletoe…

My gorgeous boss hates the holidays. He pays me a big, fat bonus check every year just to work straight through it all, pretending like Christmas isn’t happening right outside our office door.

I don’t know his deal. Don’t get why mince pies make him froth with rage. All I know is: the holidays are for other people. One hint of merriment, and I can kiss goodbye to that December chunk of change.

Except this year, we need to travel for work—and we get snowed in at the coziest inn you’ve ever seen, every single inch of it decked out in tinsel.

My boss is livid. My holiday spirit can’t be contained.

Oh, and there’s only one bed.

Reid cracked me up you don't understand 😭. He was so grumpy and socially awkward and cynical- and his internal monologue was just the best. He's probably my fav CM hero ever, I'm in love 🥹.

This novella was a perfect break from the other things I've been reading recently and was just so cute.

Okaayyyy Cassie Mint gave us angsty goodness. It has been A WHILE since she has done that. I feel like her early novellas have more angst and misunderstandings (which I love) and the ones coming out right now are all good vibes, no problems, no misunderstandings. And I also love that BUT! I enjoyed more her early stuff.

This one was good and fun like all her lil stories. It's a Christmas novella about a grumpy boss and his sunshine assistant! They go on a work trip and a snowstorm falls which makes them stay at a nearby inn together. There is only one room with ONE BED, of course. They have been pining after each other for years and now maybe is the time to act upon it.

HOT DAYYUMMMM, this was FUUUEGGGOOO!!! So much tension and intense yearning and steam, my kindle melted!

I loved this one! Dual virgins, forced proximity and a grumpy GRUMPY hero who is obsessed with his heroine! The hero was SWOON—awkward, stern, buttoned up but an explosion of need and passion when the heroine got past his rigid self-control! I will gobble up and devour any hero like this! More of this, please!!! I’d give this one 10 stars if I could!

Totally safe. Dual virgins, no whiff of others, completely obsessed with one another. No sharing or cheating or abuse. HEA with epilogue years later.

One of my favorite couples by this author, they’re adorably oblivious to each other’s feelings.

Quick and easy Christmas novella. I always enjoy Cassie mints writing and how sweet and adoring her hs are. I didn’t like the H in this one though. I wanted an asshole and a grump. He’s neurodivergent, not really grumpy. I don’t do well with dual virgin reads when the MCs are not in HS, especially when the H is just waiting because he hasn’t found the one. I just find it way too unbelievable and so the story becomes unrelatable and gimmicky. I probably would have DNFed if this was another other than a holiday novella. I liked the way the h teased the H and all the Christmas stuff, that’s the only reason why I’m giving this one a 3 and not a lower rating.

Hmm this was missing a lot, primarily the necessary charm and humor for novella like this to be any fun. Every aspect was a bit lackluster and, like the H, left me feeling cold. But not a come-in-and-sit-by-the-fire kinda cold, more a waiting-all-night-on-the-doorstep kinda cold. I get that the author was going for a neurodivergent H who acts like Scrooge, but that certainly doesn’t have to mean that nothing about him endears itself to the reader. At least give us a few butterflies with his internal dialogue about the h! 🤨

Noelle has been Reid's assistant for years, and he's a grump (or a plain jerk, idk). Because of his family, he despises Christmas and has hated it since he was young.

They went into a small town for a business meeting, but travel was rendered impossible by the arrival of a snowstorm. Because of this, they were stranded in the same hotel room.

Then, with the forced proximity, everything happened, and they both admitted having feelings for one another. After that, they got their HEA and epilogue three years later.

This was all right; to be honest, I didn't really warm up to Reid until they got stuck in that room. He was so mean and snappy to Noelle at first, but she just takes it all in because she thinks he has a really good heart. Grumpiness and rudeness are two different things, in my opinion, and Reid leans more toward the latter.

Anywaaaay, still a short holiday quick read.

I’m either officially depressed or in a reading slump so that means it’s time for novellas. Oh do I love some Cassie Mint novellas and anything Christmas related. Boss/employee, grumpy/sunshine, snowed in, dual virgins, so so cute. We have a Christmas hater and lover who both have always had a thing for the other until one snowed in night at a motel and all the feelings get revealed.

What’s Christmas Day without a lil Christmas novella 🎅🏼

Loved these two and their chemistry! Noelle is such a sweetheart and Reid is a huge grump who hates Christmas. His reason tho.. 🥺 The way she brings him out of that funk is so beautiful. The epilogue is so sweet!! 🥹

WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

Reid and Noelle have been working together for three years. Reid has social anxiety and hates Christmas. While Noelle loves Christmas, but if she talks about it she won't get her bonus at the end of the year. Reid is a lawyer while Noelle is his assistant. Reid walks Noelle home from work everyday even though he lives in the other direction. Reid and Noelle head to Aspen Ridge to met a client who wants to hire him. Along the way Noelle tries to get Reid to play some car games to pass the four hour drive a little faster, she jokes with him but he's a scrooge. When they arrive the streets are covered in everything Christmas. After they met their client in a quaint diner they grab some coffee to go in the coffee shop along the way. When Reid starts to drive out of town there's a snow storm. Reid is having a hard time seeing the cars coming the other way so he decides to take the next exit and find someplace for them to stay. Reid pulls into an Inn he finds, and they asks for two room. Reid and Noelle are told only one room is available and it only has one bed. Noelle loves the little Inn it's all picture perfect cover in Christmas, with the smell of Christmas cookies baking. When they get to their room Reid tells Noelle they are getting rid of everything Christmas related in the room. Noelle tries to get Reid to relax so she puts on a movie but she plays die hard which is a Christmas movie. Reid order them dinner while they sit and watch the movie and he complains about the movie. Noelle takes a shower and finds a pair of pajamas in the dresser, they are a bit too big. Reid sits on the bed and tells Noelle to have a seat next to him. Noelle finds mistletoe and places in Reid's lap, he asks her what she's doing. Noelle and Reid kiss, he flips her on to the bed and lays on top of her. Reid asks her if this is what she wants Noelle tells him it is. Noelle asks Reid not to stop when he rolls off of her, but then he gets up and goes to the bathroom. Reid is taking a shower to cool off and relieve himself, Noelle hears him and asks him if he's alight. Reid is glad he locked his door, Noelle giggles the door handle. When Reid comes out Noelle is watching another Christmas movie, A Muppet Christmas Carol. Reid tells her she's pushing it, Noelle tells him he's messing with her feelings. Noelle tells Reid that he had a right to stop them, it was a terrible idea and wants to pretend it never happened. Reid tells her if that's what she wants, the movie ends and they crawl under the covers. Reid is till fully dressed, as they both fall asleep. Noelle wakes with Reid wrapped around her holding her body close to his and breathing on her neck. Noelle tries to push Reid's hand off her body but then he dips under her pants. When Reid starts to pleasure Noelle she knows she needs to stop this, so she moans his name. Noelle soon tells Reid he needs to wake up, when he does she tells him it's okay. Noelle tells Reid he didn't do anything wrong but he should wake up. Reid asks her if it's okay and Noelle tells him it's more than okay. Noelle asks Reid to keep going, then asks him to take off his clothes. Reid asks her if she's sure about this and Noelle tells him she is. Reid pleasures Noelle he asks her what she wants and she tells him everything. Reid tells her he's never done this before and Noelle tells him she's never done it before either. There's three years of pent up aggression between Reid and Noelle. When Noelle wakes up Reid isn't in the bed, but soon he comes busting through the door. Reid tells Noelle he dug the car out, and they don't have to rush she can take her time. Reid tells Noelle to take a shower and he'll find them some breakfast. As they drive back home, Noelle realizes this is weird, Reid notices she's tense. Reid asks her what's wrong. Noelle asks Reid why he hates Christmas so much, but he tells her he doesn't want to talk about it. Noelle promises Reid that it won't change how she feels about him if he tells her. Noelle tries to guess but has Reid laughing and she wants to keep making him laugh. Reid tells Noelle about his family growing up and their holiday traditions that he didn't understand. Then Reid explains why his own family didn't want him. Noelle apologies to Reid and lays her hand on his thigh. When they arrive at Noelle's apartment she's lingers by her door, Reid hopes she'll invite him inside. Before Noelle has the key in the door, she asks Reid if he'd like to come up. Before they get to Noelle's apartment door she tells Reid she's decorated. Noelle asks him if she should go in first but Reid tells her no, because she likes Christmas so does he. When they get inside Reid is kissing Noel, then he pleasures her and they make love. Three years later, Noelle is wrapping gifts with their son. Noelle tries to take a picture while she adjust her son's hat. Reid comes home from work, and Noelle calls out to him. Reid comes rushing in to find his son with a cute elf hat on his head. For three years, they still want each other constantly. Reid is Noelle's Christmas wish and that'll last forever.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Noelle loves Christmas but as the assistant to her own personal Scrooge she is forced to hide her love of the festivities, or she will lose her bonus. But there is one thing that Noelle loves more than Christmas and that is Reid the grump himself. Recently though her feelings have become harder and harder to ignore and she isn’t sure that she even wants to anymore, so when a planned meeting on a Saturday leads to them being stranded at a little Bed and Breakfast during a snow storm seems to be the perfect opportunity for her to show him how she really feels. But how will Reid react to her feelings, is this going to be a Christmas to remember where she gets exactly what she wants, or will she lose it all?

Reid Merryweather is a successful lawyer, he learned from an early age that he was different from the rest of his family, and they never shied away from showing him how they felt about his impossible curiosity and endless questions especially around Christmas. But it was during college that he really lost his family, the invitations for thanksgiving and Christmas dried up leaving him with a hatred for the festivities, that was until Noelle. Noelle is and has been the perfect assistant, but there is one problem, he fell in love with her, but there is no way that she could ever feel anything for a scrooge like him, but when they are forced to spend the night at Bed and Breakfast will he be able to keep his feelings for her in check or is this the perfect way for him to get the Christmas gift that he has always wanted?

I have always loved this author but for me this just felt a little like she was going through the motions, now that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy reading this but I didn’t love it as much as previous books. 3.8* read.

Reid is a grumpy, uptight lawyer who hates all things Christmas. Noelle, his assistant of three years, is a big fan of the festive season, who believes that beneath all that hot grump, there is a heart of gold. And then they need to take a trip out of town and they get snowed in and there is only one bed and well…
I absolutely loved this story. It’s funny and sweet and passionate and you want to root for these people to find their happiness despite their own stubbornness because they just fit together so well.
It’s short but tells you everything you need to know to understand Noelle and Reid and feel involved in their story. The writer has the sort of sense of humour that, even though we know where the story is headed, I didn’t want it to end because reading it was so much fun.
I hugely appreciated the fact that both the hero and heroine are very likeable and real and not caricatures or “too much” like it so often happens with the grumpy-sunshine trope. And my heart went out to all the socially awkward serious people there who so often get misunderstood for being people-haters or, keeping in with this book’s theme, Scrooges.
A perfect story to lighten up a cold, harsh winter evening!.

This book is part of the multi-author Mistletoe Love series featuring the cute boss/assistant, grumpy/sunshine, holiday romance between Reid and Noelle. Reid is a corporate lawyer who is a very grumpy Scrooge he pays his assistant Noelle a lot of money to keep things Christmas free since he hates Christmas. Noelle has no idea why her boss hates the holidays but she loves Christmas but he gives her a big bonus check to work through it. This year though they have to travel for work and they get snowed in at the coziest inn that you've ever seen and every inch of it is decorated for Christmas. Reid is furious Noelle however is overjoyed but we have another problem there's only one bed. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this charming boss/assistant, grumpy/sunshine, holiday romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

First of all, I love the title of the book; I’m always up for a good pun. Secondly, stories like this tend to be a hit or miss for me. Either they’re adorable, or I end up wanting to slap the “Scrooge” character. Thankfully, this one was adorable. I loved Noelle’s sunny nature. It contrasted perfectly with Reid’s grumpiness and made for some funny scenes, such as the car scene with the awkward driving games. Reid’s grouchiness and general oblivion when it came to people were entertaining. And I loved the dual-virginity! Virgin heroines are a must for me, but dual-virginity is my favorite. Overall, the story was a fun Christmas treat that made me laugh as Noelle got under her Christmas-hating Scrooge’s skin.

Reid is a great big “Humbug”

If you love grumpy/sunshine romances, then ya gonna love this! Mint is the queen of steamy short stories. I’m adding it to my collection of favorite Christmas stories. All the forces of the Christmas spirit are ganging up on Reid, the grumpiest I-hate-anything-Christmas attorney. An Assistant named Noelle, a snowstorm ❄️, being trapped in a hotel all decked out 🎄, a single vacancy with one bed, sharing a bed with Noelle, and his pent up desire for her have Reid ready to crack. But once Noelle drops mistletoe in his lap…that does it! ❤️‍🔥 He launches the mistletoe at the wall and the heat of their kiss melts the snow ❄️ inside his frozen little heart…just like the Grinch. There are lots of little details that I’m purposely leaving out to avoid spoiling it for readers…particularly, why Reid hates Christmas. Enjoy this 5 star 💫 read.

I loved loved love this book. I'm not even sure if I can give an accurate description of what made me love it so, it might be one of those books you have to experience yourself. I loved both main characters and the fact that they were polar opposites was just the icing on the cake. I loved how even though they were different, that she was willing to look deeper and see the real him and I'm glad that eventually he realised that he may not be or act like everyone else but that she still wanted him for who he was anyway, and then he finally stopped holding back! This book totally lives up to its name and for me it was the perfect holiday romance with so much heated tension I was worried about the safety of my kindle!.

Reid hates Christmas. So much so, he gives his assistant, Noelle, a bonus if she refuses to acknowledge it or do anything festive in his presence. One day during December, they travel to a town that looks like Christmas threw up everywhere. While they were in the meeting, the weather took a massive turn for the worse, but he chances the road to get them home. They end up at a roadside hotel. Will this one be troupe lead to forever?

The angst level was of the cysts for a novella. His POV alone was so insightful. The way his character is written, you really get the sense that he is possibly on the 'Tism Spectrum.

This is a fantastic spicy dive into the life of Reid and Noelle. I love how freaking smart the two of these people are!!

Reid is workaholic grump who hates Christmas, and pays his assistant Noelle to not acknowledge the christmas season, even if she loves it! The heady debates and snarky remarks these two is like watching your favorite drama!!!

You can't help but love the fierce feelings these two share. Noelle really is the one to break out and push the limits she spent years pushing against. Its sweet spicy heat when they finally give into whats between them.

This is short and sweet HOT funny sarcastic ride you MUST take!!

Grumpy corporate lawyer Reid (H) hates Christmas festivities and pays his assistant, Noelle (h), a hefty sum to help keep things holiday free around him. After driving for hours to meet with a client, the pair find themselves sharing a bed at a Christmas-bedecked inn after a blizzard kicks in. Things have been simmering between Noelle and Reid the whole trip, but now that they’re alone togther, she’s determined to get a rise out of him. Hot and steamy Christmastime romance with plenty of smiles, banter, snark, and holiday décor.

What a great book!

This was definitely a Scrooge story but a sad one. Reid didn't like Christmas one bit but Noelle, loved it. She was his assistant and after working together for three years she has learned not to mention Christmas or anything involved with it. He has a good reason, you'll have to read it to find out. It's sad. I loved all the descriptions: their office, the travel they did, the heavy snowstorm they got caught in, the Inn and their situation. Overall it's a great read. Written by Cindy :)

Noelle has worked for Reid for three years. He hates Christmas, even though he will not tell her why. He just pretends Christmas is not happening outside his office. When they have to take a business trip, the weather requires them to stop for the night. The inn is decked to the hilt and there is only one room with one bed available.

Reid has been able to maintain a professional demeanor with his assistant but he does not know how he able to keep his distance. Especially when she makes it clear she wants him.

Noelle works for Reid, a lawyer who hates Christmas so much he gives her a massive bonus every year not to talk about it.

This was an incredibly sweet story. I loved their interactions and their banter.

Reid cares about Noelle but is scared to cross a line with her and loosing her.

In the end they find their way together and it’s wonderful. Would highly recommend this book. Its part of a multi author series but you don’t have to read the others to read this one.

These two were so sweet and funny together. The socially awkward boss and his sunshine assistant that just loves his grumpy self. Noelle works for Reid and has a huge crush on the Christmas hating Grinch. Reid thinks he won't be good enough for Noelle so he tries to stay away. But everything changes when a blizzard brings them to a hotel with just one bed 😉 Instalove(well they fell, but were to awkward to take charge), sweet, fun to read, grumpy/sunshine, boss/assistant, romantic, with steam and totally safe (heck yes😏 dual virgins) with an awesome HEA and no OP drama😍😍😍😍😍

Noelle loves Christmas, a fact she tries to hide from her dashingly handsome but grumpy as hell boss. When in the lead up to Christmas the two are snowed in together everything changes.

Loved this super hot and steamy (instalove vibes) OTT boss/ employee romance.

Ried is the perfect mix of bossy and grumpy with a heart of gold. Noelle is pure sunshine and together they make for an amazingly fun and happy read.

I truly love the times when Cassie publishes something new, I don’t have much happiness in my life but the hour i spend reading her words gives me a glimpse of what that could be like.

These two characters were meant to be together and even though our leading man was a grumpy scrooge he still brought Noelle holiday cheer just by being with her.

I loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one.
