Since I didn't enjoy the one book I read by this author I wasn't sure I would like this but I did enjoy it quite a bit.

The hero a DEA agent is burnt out after being undercover for three years and he can't wait to get back to his son and the woman he loves even if they have been divorced for four years, in his heart she is his and he has a ring to get her back when a bomb goes off in his flight.

When Maggie the heroine is working she has an intuition that Garrett is hurt like she always does and then she gets the call and she does not want to go, letting go was too hard but she does and even injured Garrett hangs on enough to propose to her and tell her his love. Their love was never the problem for them, Maggie and her fears were, she met the hero at sixteen as a foster kid, his family became hers and Garrett loved her and married her when he was on his feet, waiting for their wedding.

While he is in coma, Maggie figures out that she ended the marriage before she was abandoned, she just couldn't let go off her past and Garrett's injures and move to DEA was too much for her, she tried to date but it felt wrong and she still loved Garrett, so when he wakes up she wants to make it work but her son Rick is an issue, he was too hurt by what he sees as his father's abandonment.

Garrett wants to get back his family and make up for the hurt he caused but when he learns the extent of his injuries and the fact that he who has always been for the law and active, may not walk again he tries to push Maggie away but she doesn't go away completely, even when he pushes.

We see him deal with how people now see him, asking for help from family, repairing the relationship with his son, deal with anger, despair and impotency as well.
There was a lot of let's get back together, let's not from both their sides which annoyed me. Garrett at one point gets jealous of Maggie taking charge when it comes to their sex life, since he had always been the aggressor but finds out that he has always been the only one her, even he never cheated on her though at one point in despair he thought about it, but didn't go through with it.

I liked how in the end Garrett actually tried to win her back and grovel. There was a lot going on in this book and I enjoyed it.

There was a lot of angst in this bad boy, and eventually it was just too much. I liked the twin themes of reconciling after their divorce and dealing with his disability. I thought she made a convincing case for their second time around and treated his recovery from major injuries realistically, with lots of tears and anger on both sides. There was just one fight, one ultimatum too many for me to really love the novel. I needed to see more accord between them.

I enjoyed this book. Although the reader knew there was a HEA, the story line and the interactions between the characters kept my interest. Well done.

Why do authors who know nothing about medicine write heavily medical stories? Watching a lot of tv does not count as research - it's usually inaccurate. Plus those inaccuracies are way more obvious when they are in writing. If you don't know what you're talking about, how about glossing over the technical stuff instead of getting deep into detail. Getting so much wrong virtually from page one is infuriating.

What makes it impossible to overlook page after page of an author having no idea what she's writing about? She also has no idea how real people actually speak & act. Each interaction had me rolling my eyes. Add in some unlikeable characters and very poor quality prose. Wow, this is bad.

I really really really loved this book! I started it last night, planning on only reading 100 or so pages, but I couldn't put it down! I thought the situations were realistic and the emotions seemed spot on. I love the "wounded hero" trope, so I really enjoyed how much this focused on the romance, but also the healing. Toward the end I did want to slap both Garrett and Maggie and tell them to get over themselves. I would love to see a sequel and read more about their lives. These characters seemed very real to me, something that not a lot of romance novels can accomplish. Definitely something I will read again and again.
