"Decider" was one of those irritating books by Dick Francis. You know it's going to be the racing fraternity, you know there's going to be some scandal or issue that someone will go to any lengths to cover up. You know at some point the heavies are going to come and beat up the hero. And you know in the end the racehorse/racecourse/trophy/championship will be saved. They are all the same. But still you can't help but be sucked into the storyline and go along at the hair-raising pace with which it's told, and you would rather lose a night's sleep than have to psyche yourself up again next day to that level of intrigue and anticipation.

The Sugar Pavilion is a love story against the backdrop of the French Revolution and the smuggling activity in the Southern English coasts. Sometimes as sickly sweet as the confectionery the heroine makes, still quite a good, enthralling storyline
