This is a fast read, with short chapters each about a different case or a type of case she's worked on, with interesting examples. Some of the stories will make you cry; others are brim with joy. It's not graphic and not detailed in its description of how she searched for people. It's also dated; 1995 was much closer to the dawn of the internet than we are now. I enjoyed it.

I just re-read this book and enjoyed it again. I first read it when my daughter was young, and this started her interest in private detectives, which led to an interest in adjacent issues of law and justice. After we both read this book, I called up a private investigator from the phone book and invited her to come to my house and speak to a small group of interested homeschooler and unschooler kids about her work. She had never done such a thing, but agreed. We had a great gathering which started with her introductory remarks, followed by telling us that she had been surreptitiously filming us with her purse/bag the entire time! She also showed us a film of a man who had faked a workplace injury and claimed to not be able to walk - up on a roof doing some repairs, and walking with no issues. All this to say that private detectives have interesting stories to tell. The author of this book specializes in finding missing people, and she too has interesting stories to tell.
