David Levine was an American artist and illustrator best known for his caricatures in The New York Review of Books. Jules Feiffer has called him "the greatest caricaturist of the last half of the 20th Century".
There are other books on David Levine - best known for his caricatures of literary, political, and artistic figures - but this (at least to my knowledge) is the only one that also includes a selection of his paintings and thus presents another side of his work. I like the paintings but, in the end, it's the caricatures that I'll return to most often. If you know his caricatures from the New York Review of Books, The New York Times, and other publications, you know what's here (except perhaps for the paintings). If you've never seen Mr. Levine's work before, I envy you. You have a treat in store when you open this book.
