Originally some of the small subs had crews of less than ten men, unlike today's nuclear behemoths with crews of almost one hundred. About the author

Keith Hall was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. After leaving school at eighteen, he joined the Royal Navy and spent 33 years in the Navy’s medical branch. He spent the majority of this time on nuclear submarines or in shore billets in support of the Nuclear Propulsion Programme. On leaving the Navy in 2003 he worked as a Health Physicist at H M Naval Base Clyde. He retired in 2015 and still lives in the area.
Over the years he has written a number of books about the Clyde region, the naval history and about submarines’ in particular. Many of his extensive collection of old photographs and postcards of this area have been used in these books.
His latest book is about the K-13 submarine which sank during its trial dive in the early 1900s. His main motive for this self-published book was the clearing of Lt Lane’s name who solely got blamed for this tragic accident. In this book, he questions the findings of the Board of Inquiry and provides an alternative scenario.
He is currently working on a book about the Navy’s Trident submarines, a follow-on to his recent book about the history of the Royal Navy’s Polaris Programme.
