The idea of the book is not too bad. An historical background, end of 1800th century in Stockholm, where two women are meeting each other with different background. Henrietta, the main protagonist, is a rich, aristocratic, but intellectual woman, that dreams of being able to contribute to society and Lina, who will end up being her maid, coming from humble origin, with some secret. In common they have the passion for reading.
Two parallel tracks that interlace themselves throughout the whole book, but that seems brushed very quickly with a bit too forced language that makes most of the event and dialogues a bit ridiculous.
All these feelings that are described meticulously mostly for the two women, do not leave much space for imagination and feels very artificial and expected.
The book gets a bit better pace at the end, but I would have expected a bit more original ending and I would have deepened certain aspects of the story for making it more interesting.
All together, this seems put together to try to catch the attention of a specific kinf od public, but not use it fully the whole potential behind the book main idea.
At least the characters, or especially Henrietta, evolve through the different events - even though the evolution is not in the direction that would have given thickness and roundness to the character itself.
An ok reading during summer, but I would not recommend it.
