Book 6 in the Amazon #1 Best Selling paranormal suspense series!

On the Rez, everything is connected. Black Bear is banished, but the scars he left in his wake won’t heal. To set things right and return what was lost, Owen and Ben must chance a journey along a dangerous road that bridges the land of the living and the dead.

As long as Black Bear cheats death, the barrier between worlds grows weaker. He cannot return to the Rez, but his reach is long and he has dark creatures under his control. Two killers on a collision course with the Rez are living proof. Rumor has it they carry black totems carved into the shape of a bear, and their gaze means death.

The Arroyo elders tell stories of how the ancients once rid the world of monsters. Now, Black Bear wants to bring them back and destroy the great balance forever. In order to set things right, everyone who calls the Arroyo home must find a way to confront him once and for all, before his darkness blankets all of them.

Awesome

The whole series has been wonderful. Book #6 was the best. So well written it made me feel I was actually with each character in each situation.

The best of the vanishing series- so far!

I loved this book. It all pulled together so well and was so intriguing in how it unfolded. A real triumph of literature and the southwest people. Wonderful!

I don't know why I'm so attracted to these books, to this ongoing story, but I am. And once I start reading, I cannot put them down. Griffith has a huge ability in story telling. I don't know if he comes by it naturally, or has honed it with stories from the Navahoes and other American Indian tribes, but his books are like a rope of many threads being spun together to make something whole and wonderful.

This is a continuation of books 1 thru 5, and you definitely need to read those first before reading this one, to understand where the characters are coming from. The entire Arroyo is in a mess, the old twins are dying, Caroline is missing, Grant is hurting from his necklace, and Owen is trying to cope with a baby girl that he has yet to name. And into this maelstrom is marching two monsters. The community needs to deal with them, but how when the Twins are dying.

Apparently, this is a story from the Navaho creation myths. I always enjoyed really fairy tale stories when I was young, and apparently I still enjoy them when I am old. I highly recommend these books...so enjoyable and satisfying. My only complaint is I get the feeling this may be the last of this saga. I will be looking for other books like this, and keeping an eye out for if Griffith publishes again.

hmmm. been thinking through all 6 books about their effect on me, and there is a real effect.

Northern European white Christian immigrant here, retired social worker ... with an open interest re how humans deal with evil .. which has ever been and ever will be present.

I finished this last with even more respect for peoples whose stories are of direct, face-to-face costly war against their own demons to preserve, and hope to heal, ravaging destruction .. with no guarantee of success.

Makes my cultural Christianity look escapist, our own invention .. Given Christ did not escape anything .. even in those days after crucifixion and before resurrection did not rest, faced off and rescued.

Recalibrating my spirit to bulk up. evil is and ever has been .. not expecting escape.

Respect.

amazing!

I have been reading this series slowly. I sped through the first book quickly. It took its time but grabbed me fiercely. The second book tried to drag me in but I held strong. I made it last. I finished book 6 just as slow as the rest, trying to make it last as long as possible. Unfortunately I finished it. Now for the painful wait of the next. I’m not sure if I’d compare to Tony hillerman, the background may be similar, the story just as gripping, but this story is different, in a good way, that makes you want to be there with these people in this land and feel the things they are feeling. Makes you believe in legends and lore. I am anxiously awaiting the next book. Thank you for this amazing story!

A simply stunning ending to a saga rooted in Dinétah and its people (old & new)

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Vanished series—clear crisp storytelling with Navajo land & culture being the glue that binds a fabulous cast of well crafted characters into people we care about. I loved the character-based narrative, with BB really showing his writing chops by giving each principal their own distinctive voice.
Mostly loved learning more about the Navajo and their land (Dinétah!) in this excellent series (that I’ve described as Tony Hillerman with some Men-In-Black’ish Crow-powered sci-fi pizzazz).

An intense read. B.B. Griffith has outdone himself. The story was gut-wrenching and extremely emotional for those of us who have come to know and love the characters. Several times during the story, an event devastated me and I wanted to stop reading. But I couldn't. The story and writing were that good. Oh, and the monsters ... dear God, the monsters ... Truly horrifying and worth the price of admission.

I reread the first 5 before reading Den of the Bear

This book made me cry for all the right reasons. These characters live with me long after I finish the book. I save them in my library so I can go back and visit when ever I chose. As I have said in my other reviews these characters grab you by your soul and do not let go. I love how the story follows the Dine` creation stories.

This series is fascinating and well written. So different, exploring ancient Navajo legends and bringing them in to present day life. The returning characters grow and change, yet their inner strengths and goodness emerge stronger with each challenge. The author has a tremendous knack to build atmosphere, suspense, and humanity in each chapter and book. Highly recommend

Emotionally beautiful!

Being on the Rez again was as exhilarating as all the other books. These characters have been woven together like a fine Navajo rug. I never want the stories to end. The tears this brought to my eyes were so beautifully conjured up by a very meaningful and touching story.

Great series

I read these books (all 6) in 3 weeks not being to put them down. These are well written and engaging books. The first book starts out like a Hillerman and rapidly goa past it to tell creation and skinwaker stories. Each book ends and starts well, the ending is perfectly believable.

Outstanding Series

I love the stories, the thrill and the drama of them. But more than that I love the characters. I would read their boring everyday lives that you wrote just to stay in touch with them. Your grasp of the solid truth of life is on point and unerring. Thank you so much B.B Griffith!

Amazing series!

Going into this series I wasn't sure I'd like it. It being totally different from what I normally read. After the first couple chapters of the first book I was completely hooked! I had a hard time putting them down and completed the series in less than a month, a new record for me in a long time!

A rendering of Navajo belief, maybe.

A story told from the view of multiple people. It is amazing how you feel like you are part of the story. Griffith is a master at story telling. I'm already looking for his next book. You need to read the whole series in the order that they are written. I know you will enjoy this series as much as I have.

Loved this book, just really hate that it was the last book in the series. I really loved the characters and the storyline. I both read the books and listened to them on Audible. The Audible narration is just as good as reading the book. I highly recommend it!

Exceptional story telling.

I've read Hillerman and Koontz and this series pays homage to both. Hillerman gives a fine dusting of Navajo culture but Griffith adds the meat to the story.

this series

I have never ever been so caught up in a story as I have been with Vanished. I feel like I know these people and could be part of them. I’m sorry this story has gone into the river, but it has also taught me some good life lessons. Thank you.

Love this series. The blend of native American culture and supernatural story line and how the characters lives blend together. The hack and slash gory details in this story line was a little too graphic for me despite I'm a horror fan. Looking forward to next one in series.

You can feel what the characters are feeling. It’s wonderful writing and a story that is spellbinding.
I hope there is a continuation of this story. I want to learn more about Ana. A great series with interesting ties to Native American culture. Thanks.
