Todd McFarlane is a Canadian comic book artist, writer, toy manufacturer/designer, and media entrepreneur who is best known as the creator of the epic occult fantasy series Spawn.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, McFarlane became a comic book superstar due to his work on Marvel Comics' Spider-Man franchise. In 1992, he helped form Image Comics, pulling the occult anti-hero character Spawn from his high school portfolio and updating him for the 1990s. Spawn was one of America's most popular heroes in the 1990's and encouraged a trend in creator-owned comic book properties.

In recent years, McFarlane has illustrated comic books less often, focusing on entrepreneurial efforts, such as McFarlane Toys and Todd McFarlane Entertainment, a film and animation studio.

In September, 2006, it was announced that McFarlane will be the Art Director of the newly formed 38 Studios, formerly Green Monster Games, founded by Curt Schilling.

McFarlane used to be co-owner of National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers but sold his shares to Daryl Katz. He's also a high-profile collector of history-making baseballs.

I love that Todd McFarlane put out this second volume of his covers which is from 101-200! I will say that the book is beautifully rendered and my complaints are only minor. I still regret stopping buying the individual issues, as I pretty much have issue #1-176. That said, some of those later issues I got to see the covers in this book for the very first time. Not a lot of dialogue at all, but some beautiful art. My only complaints are the following:

#1) Spawn #103 is pixelated and not a great rendition of the cover.

#2) Maybe a little blurb on concept ideas on covers would be great as it would give you a deeper appreciation of each cover and why it was done the way it was.

#3) A table of contents telling who drew what cover would be nice. While as a fan I can tell on 99%, some covers I would have to go on the internet to get the details that would be nice in this volume.

Please do not think this criticism is to say you shouldn't own it. If your a fan of Spawn, Todd McFarlane or Greg Capullo it is well worth the price! If you just love art...it also will be something that enriches your comic book love.
