As someone that’s never much cared (or believed) in (western) astrology (but, between you and me… I was always proud to be a Libra!) surely I was the wrong person to pick up this book.
But I’d heard an interview with the author on one of my favorite podcasts (J. Brown Yoga) and was intrigued enough to pick up a copy.
The good: it’s a really well-constructed and crafted book. The whole package and presentation are impressive, for sure. It’s chock-a-block informative with the history and meaning behind every aspect of Vedic astrology.
The not-so-good: after a while it all becomes a bit same-y. My eyes glazed over and my brain seized up after trying to absorb which rising planet meant this and which deity meant that.
And a lot might hinge on just how open-minded and “new age” you are about everything being discussed in the book. (For me it was sometimes hard to accept/believe some of the more outlandish ideas being brought up.)
Nearing the end of the book he writes, “The… priests… have no inclination… to… ask for unreasonable fees…” (in regards to someone asking/wanting a reading/chart done).
Then you hop over to his own website to see he’s charging $450 for his jyotisha services which felt a bit icky to me.
(Hey, he’s not a Hindu priest, he’s a capitalist like most of us, I get it. But still…)
Overall, I dug the book. Had I known ahead of time that it was meant to serve as an elaborate ‘business card’ for the author’s side hustle(s) – which include detailed readings/charts/etc. – I would’ve probably passed.
(And I might not be a Libra after all?! Yikes!)

So much amazing knowledge in a vast topic. The author breaks it down so beautifully. Thank his book has me itching to research even more about Vedic Astrology

Inspiring to Hold, Wisdom that’s Bold!!
As Vish’s astrology student, I was provided with a wealth of information through the Intro to Jyotish Astrology classes. Also an engineer like Vish, I value insight that is supported with data and experiences (qualitative data).
Vish has masterfully compacted and updated his wisdom into this beautifully crafted work.
He illustrates concepts by weaving research with Indian mythology. Energies of the signs and planets and how they appear in life are wonderfully described through keywords and different descriptions of exaggerated, balanced and repressed states. This further assists the reader with looking within and understanding how these subtle energies are portrayed in daily life.
Not only is the energy described, but also easy to implement suggestions to improve are listed. Vish provides simple suggestions (remedies) in Chapter 9 that serve as a compass to enhance the reader’s own wellness journey.
The quick reference guide is a most valuable summary! This is the reference book I use whether reading charts or looking to resolve my own energetic needs.
An unexpected bonus, I enjoyed holding the hardcover book, feeling the paper and looking at the illustrations. Using more senses improved my understanding to draw the energy further into my own being.
Vish’s insights through this Jyotish Astrology lens provides an excellent reference for decoding and fully experience life.

solid four stars. I read this book already having some knowledge of Vedic astrology. I appreciate the information provided in a way even beginners can understand. This book provided lovely tips and mantras for pacifying the planets. This is a book I'm sure to reference again and again.

Now that I know more about Vedic astrology, I have to consult it alongside western. It feels more accurate and Vish’s way of explaining all of this feels incredibly simple and easy-to-digest. 10/10.
