Well rounded overview of core quality principles making it a good resource for people new to quality or if they want a refresher. The book ties in history of quality and modern applications that help give people a well rounded view. The end of chapter quizzes are a nice bonus for self-assessment and reinforcing key concepts.

Please keep in mind that I cannot asses the correctness and precision of the concepts in this book, because I have no prior knowledge in this field. On the other hand, I can asses if the chosen title makes sense to the uninitiated.

As a newcomer to quality management, I feel like a have a solid ground in this subject now - In the sense that I could read other titles about this field without feeling lost. This title reiterates the key concepts quite often and shows the relationships between different models and notions of quality management. On the other hand, this means that you’re missing out on something if you’re deciding to read individual chapters as stand-alone.

The first chapter - the history of quality management - actually ties in nicely into the rest of the book and actually contributes to understanding, which isn’t always the case in overview titles. I liked the introduction and overview, which outlined what to expect from this book and who this book is for. The exercises at the end of each chapter help cement the knowledge and the examples given are thought-provoking and both add value for the self-studying.

It’s clear that the book is written for business professionals that want to learn something about quality management from the given examples and “apply the concept to your own world/organisation” mini exercises. However, the key concepts have been reiterated so many times that reading feels a little tiring near the end, and the last few chapters felt like a meaningless repetition.

All in all, I really liked this overview - it has been clearly and concisely written and has given me a few things to think about outside of just the presented theory. That there were many references to and citations of other works made me very happy as well, for it presents further reading material. I recommend this book for everyone who’s in business or who searches for a primer on the subject.
