The SCOTT PILGRIM 20TH ANNIVERSARY COLOR HARDCOVER BOX SET
Confession time: I read the black and white version of this set, not the color edition. Goodreads, as of the time I started reading this, did not have a separate listing for the B&W version. As far as I know there is no difference in content between the two other than how the artwork is presented.
I reviewed the books individually already. This review is about the set itself, and the 7th volume: Collected Extras, which I assume is included with the color set as well.
Extras is just that: sketch pages, the original project proposal, artwork from ads and posters and T-shirts and the like, essays about the series’ creation, short stories that appeared separately, deleted scenes, pretty much everything you'd expect. It gives some insight into O'Malley's creative process, but it's not as though it's key to truly understanding the story or anything like that. It's definitely of interest to Scott Pilgrim enthusiasts. And, if you're not one of those, you're probably not going to buy this to begin with.
Production is outstanding! There's new cover art for each book. They're larger than the original graphic novels, so you'll be able to savor every detail of the art. The box itself is lovely, with magnetic closures, and an envelope full of posters, stickers, art cards, and other goodies.
All in all, a production worthy of the series’ 20th anniversary. Highly recommended!
Great series, I grew up with the movie but I have to say I enjoy the book better. I just feel like the movie made him more of a whimp that he is in the book. though that could just be the guy who played him. Also loved the collected extras that came with this box set.
The box looks so cool a friend came over and asked me if that‘s a playstation 2. I like how it says don‘t be too precious with the stickers they‘re meant to be used. It was really a great experience reading everything while it looks bigger and now with color too. The extra book was really interesting and really nice to have. Tbh if it wasn‘t on discount i‘d never buy it for the full price but i‘m really glad i bought it.
Soooooo many lines that I’m thankful to have re-familiarized myself with. Absolutely love the way the source material influenced the movie, and then the video game, and then the tv show. Scott Pilgrim made me an insufferable preteen/teenager (to the point where I got a bread tattoo in adulthood) and now, at the age of 25, I’m realizing just how much I’m glad to have grown. Thanks for 20 years of Scott Pilgrim—happy to have been along for the ride most of my life.
