A true story. On March 6, 2016, Pastor Tim Remington was shot six times at close range with .45 hollow points by a man who thought he was stopping an alien from Mars. Five bullets sheered through Tim's torso, nicking one lung and just missing his colon, his kidneys, his liver. First responders found a flattened bullet in Tim's pocket, where it landed after piercing Tim's jacket on course for his heart. The sixth bullet blew through his arm and slammed into his head, halting right at the lining of his brain. His blood poured over the pavement as though he were a pitcher that had tipped, but Tim survived. The love and mercy of God had long been evident in Tim's life - and his church full of 'misfits' - but Tim's remarkable survival shouted that love to the world in an obvious, visible way. The shooting of Pastor Tim Remington raised a question that required investigation. Why this particular pastor? What about Tim made him a prime target? Why did Satan so badly want him dead?
The story of Tim Remington. Pastor Tim was shot in 2016 and miraculously survived to the glory of God. This story has a lot of personal connections for me. My parents attend his church. I have attended services at both the Cataldo Lighthouse and The Altar. What is sure to be an inspiring story and encouragement to those who read it, it is different when you know the people and places firsthand. While I may differ from Pastor Tim theologically in certain areas, one cannot deny his love for people and a desire to introduce them to Christ.
‘Sometimes the Lord opens doors we do not expect’ - A miraculous life
Author Amy Joy Hess places before the reading public the biography of Tim Remington, an exceptional man on many levels: a spiritual guide and significant influence on the lives of many in his Christian flock, a man enhanced by miracles, a survivor of a strange and near fatal encounter with gun shots, a politician, and a devoted minister who has shared God’s miracles with the needy.
Born in California, Tim as a lad moved to Northern Idaho with his church-going family, but was unimpressed with the local congregation, seeing them as little different than those outside the church, unlike the expected changes the New Testament promised of followers. After a rowdy high school life, and after graduation, hippy Tim moved back to California to his uncle’s home, felt disgusted with his life until an awakening experience overlooking the ocean when he felt God had saved him. Tim was changed, played piano in the church, met Cindy his soul mate who became his wife, and together they moved back to Idaho where they formed the Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene, had four children, and ministered to addicts, criminals, and victims of abuse in their rehabilitation center, helping others find hope in Jesus.
Tim had a recurring dream of a near death experience, a dream that became a reality on March 6, 2016 when outside his church he sustained six gunshots with .45 hollow point bullets to his torso, head and shoulder - the perpetrator Kyle Odom saw the act as destroying a humanoid alien robot from Mars! The GSW incident resulted in massive blood loss, multiple surgeries, prolonged hospitalization, and residual damage, including severe pain and paralysis in Tim’s right arm, preventing his playing the piano (and the inception of another miracle). Throughout the course of his long recovery, Cindy and their children Jeremiah, Josiah, Jadon and Gracie provided care and support, and through several miracles Tim returned to his pastorate and mission of bring hope and healing to the needy. The specific lives of some of the people Tim and Cindy assisted are well described as additional miracles that provide awe and respect, bringing sensitive stories into credible reality.
Not only is this a bracing, fascinating exploration of the life of Tim Remington, it also provides insight into the mind of the mentally and spiritually disturbed Kyle Odom (who carried his bizarre perceptions to Washington DC, near President Obama!) and his imprisonment, as well as an excellent discussion of gunshot wounds, guns in general, medical diagnoses and procedures and more - all related sensitively. The impact of Tim’s and Cindy’s lives and ministry is a testimony to power that God’s ongoing miracles continue to create. This luminous book provides a much-needed optimism, a ray of hope that despite the trials of our times, spiritual support is present - and accessible. At once a superb mystery with otherworldly overtones, a romance, a source of inspiration, a radiant spiritual life, and an extraordinarily impressive and important book! Hess delivers it well. Very highly recommended.
I believe there are many miracles happening all the time. All around us. All you have to do is pay attention and you might just see one. The story of the violent and near-fatal attack on Pastor Tim Remington, his survival and his slow recovery back to health is told with ferocious spirit and faith in Amy Joy Hess’ miraculous book, “Gun Shot Witness: The Tim Remington Story.” “Blood gushed from under him and oozed across the pavement. Rich and red, it pooled around his head and shoulders and out the sides of his ribs. He tried to move, longed to move, but the blood pinned him down and paralyzed him. … Something bad had happened, something horrible.” That’s how Amy Joy Hess begins Chapter 1, “on fire.” The something horrible was a hallucinating gunman by the name of Kyle Odom as he fired 10 bullets toward the pastor, who instantly slumped to the ground. Leaking blood from several wounds throughout his body with one bullet lodging in his skull, Tim Remington’s life was slowly passing out of him. The author’s vivid description may not be for the faint of heart but it’s an essential part of understanding the miracle, and miracles, that occurred. Throughout the course of this book, Amy Joy Hess introduces us to a cavalcade of colorful characters, many of them broken in spirit, all waiting to be saved and given redemption from their individual struggles. Characters like Tess, Steve, Cara and several others lived lives that were destroyed by drugs or other addictions and the stories of how Tim Remington ministered to them and helped them were extremely emotional and touching. But even more than that, these are individual stories of how they were lifted out of the poverty of addiction by handing their lives over to Jesus. Their success is inspiring. Hess is a gifted writer and she does a fabulous job weaving together the stories of Tim Remington and others who are affected by his work or intersected with his ministry. While on the surface the attack that nearly killed Pastor Remington might be seen as a random act of violence, Hess reaches beyond the headlines to illustrate all of the many forces at work on that fateful day. What role did Satan play and was his attack focused on Tim’s destruction? These and other spiritual questions are addressed in this uplifting book of Christian love and compassion. During difficult times, it’s important to have books like this one in your library. They help you to remember and there is peace and comfort in the telling of these stories of redemption. “Gun Shot Witness” is a fast-paced shot of adrenaline to the heart! Author Amy Joy Hess grabs you on page 1 and never lets you go. This book will make you believe … again. Highly recommended.
One cannot imagine that life would drastically change in the blink of an eye, especially if you've been a positive example in your community. Unfortunately, ruffling the feathers of others comes with the territory of being a spiritual leader to many lost souls.
In "Gun Shot Witness: The Tim Remington Story," author Amy Joy Hess informs her readers of what happened on March 6, 2016, that made headline news. Wow, even with the attempt to think back to 2016 has become a blur because so much has occurred throughout the world then. This book has been an excellent way of informing people of how evil the world is. Here, we have a happy and compassionate pastor, Tim Remington, who would go all out his way to ensure his brothers and sisters in Christ went without bare essentials of life, all for someone to try to snatch his life away. For whatever reason, Kyle Odom, the man behind the devious act, had a psychotic schizophrenic episode and thought Tim wasn't human. Call this a crazy conspiracy, but it could be a common thought other people might have about random people in the world. Despite the attempted killing of Tim, and the long road to recovery, he still went on to do and spread God's love, by forgiving Kyle. There is so much compassion and patience to be shared if many open their hearts and accept God into their lives, which is one of many lessons shared within this book.
I felt the emotions introduced through the pages of what could've been the end of Tim's life, but from the strength of his and his family's faith, he held on. This story goes on to showcase the other various ways the Remington family didn't allow that near tragedy ruin their goals to give back to their community. One would even consider that dreadful day to be somewhat of a blessing in disguise, just so Tim Remington could have a testimony to share with others on how God spared his life by a miracle. I highly recommend this book to others for all of the positive aspects within.
Gun Shot Witness: The Tim Remington Story by Amy Joy Hess is a wonderful true story! It was an inspiration to read and the author wrote it with enthusiasm about God's Power. What an amazing life of Tim Remington before, during and after his near death from six gun shot wounds. His faith and commitment to God and the work he has done in his community through God is just astounding.
Since 2004, my husband and I live in the Silver Valley. Many times over a number of years, one of my friends spoke of him and how he helped the young. About seven or eight days before Pastor Remington was shot, I was in the Kootenai Hospital and I believe I was also under the same care of the kind, but no-nonsense head nurse who was mentioned in the story. I was weak, recovering at home and not much aware of what was going on around me when the event took place. A month or so later, my friend excitedly told me about the miracle of Pastor Remington's amazing recovery.
In addition, Amy Joy Hess, the author, is a dear friend of ours. I've read many of her other books, which are good and well-written, but I would have to say, this book is outstanding. (Before Amy Joy finished writing this story, she read the first few pages to me. Her reading inspired me to finish my book.) Her book tells the stories of many men and women whose lives were saved because of Tim Remington's determination and faith through God to not give up on any one's soul. This includes the faith and strength he has to deal with the constant pain from his shot gun wounds. His faith, devotion and love for God continually helps him battle evil and Satan. After reading his story, I hope to meet him one day.
I've read this book several times now, and it still makes me emotional. I read it out loud to my teenagers this last weekend - it only took a few hours - and they listened the whole time, completely interested. It's a true story, well written, and it encourages me so much that God is still at work and can save anybody. Amy Joy Hess covers the shooting and Tim's recovery, but she also does a great job of weaving in the stories of other people in Tim's life. If people think God doesn't love us, that He doesn't care, that He's just left us all to rot and die, they need to read this book. This book offers so much hope, so much hope and mercy. It's truly an encouraging story, and I know I'll read it again.
From the moment you meet Pastor Tim Remington you can feel the compassion, kindness and way he goes more than the extra mile for his congregation. give those that need second changes the tools, have the necessities to live. As the author describes the scene that you will picture in your mind over and over again,,you hear the numerous shots, feel them as they hit different parts of him and the moment when he’s taken to the hospital and realizes he may never see his family again. The author explains the ammunition and bullet marks thought Tim’s body. She continues with his initial time hoping to recover and yet at times you are wondering if he and the killer were mentally and physically connected by the spirits, aliens and entitled .
I didnt know what to except when i got this book. I was not dissappointed. The book takes off pretty quick. The advents Tim went thru were deadly but was truly a miracle that he survived. The author gives good medical detail to his extensive injuries. I also liked how the author expounded his testimony by detailing other peoples lives and how Tim influenced them.
