Every shift starts the same. None of them end that way.
In the emergency room, the next patient through the doors can be a miracle, a tragedy, or something no textbook prepared anyone for. In Volume 1 of Code Blue, Dr. Jeffery Chambers opens the curtain on that world through a collection of true-to-the-floor stories drawn from the chaos, the quiet, and the split-second calls that decide who walks out and who doesn’t.
Seasoned nurses who have seen everything. Rookie doctors who haven’t. Patients who arrive broken and leave whole, and others who never get the chance. Chambers writes from inside the room, not above it — the clinical decisions, the emotional cost, the dark humor that keeps a crew upright at 3 a.m., and the unlikely bonds formed when strangers meet at the worst moment of a life.
There are recoveries that shouldn’t have happened. Losses that still don’t make sense. And moments of unexpected levity that cut through the noise just long enough to remind everyone why they stay. Volume 1 is the entry point to the a clear-eyed, compassionate portrait of emergency medicine as it actually feels — fast, human, and never finished.
This is a collection of stories and most of them sounded like the stories from a book I had just read. I don't like to re-read books. I didn't like the publisher adding in 2 of their books about bigfoot in the middle of the book. I listen to books while driving and all of a sudden went from medical stories to bigfoot. I was totally confused at first. The last two chapters seemed to repeat the first few paragraphs in the same chapter. Don't know if that was a technical glitch on my end or not.
The stories were interesting, but it makes me curious if I have heard the same stories in the next book.
as a nurse myself, it was a little thick to pour on the "changed my life" emotions without even giving any depth to the stories. I actually didn't/couldn't finish it.
This book was garbage! There was no emotion to it. It was awful! Didn’t give me a glimpse in to the life of an ER doctor/nurse at all! Don’t buy this book!
