Nobody was supposed to know that Deputy Justice Hall secretly went to the Amado Cartel’s stronghold in Mexico to mete out justice the judicial system denied to the creator of a deadly street drug and the leader of the motorcycle gang that distributed it.
But someone followed him. And they want him to know it, as evidenced by the handwritten note with the words "I SEE U"—accompanied by photo evidence and a heart-shaped stone—left at Justice’s ranch.
Is this somehow the work of Justin Black, the man who murdered Justice’s family and then kidnapped him? Is it blackmail? Or does Justice have some kind of twisted admirer?
Rattled, Justice is more than happy for the diversion of a new case. An unusual arson, complete with the body of a pimp, his head cleaved with a hatchet, and a note identifying the victim as woman abuser written on the wall behind the victim in eerily familiar handwriting.
When another fire occurs with clues left specifically for Justice, it’s clear the two are intertwined. And the writing is on the wall—literally. This vigilante killer and note leaver is after something personal. Now Justice is knee-deep in a game of cat and mouse. But is he the cat...or the mouse?
Stalked by Darkness is book four of Mary Stone’s A Villain’s Story series, a twisted thriller that will take you down a rabbit hole where the line between good and evil no longer matters.
Nestled in the tranquil Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee, Mary Stone has transformed her peaceful home, once bustling with her sons, into a creative haven. As her family grew, so did her writing career, evolving from childhood fears to a deep understanding of real-life villains. Her stories, centered around strong, unconventional heroines, weave themes of courage and intrigue.
Mary's journey from a solitary writer to establishing her own publishing house marks a significant evolution, showcasing her commitment to the literary world. Through her writing and publishing endeavors, she continues to captivate and inspire, honoring her lifelong fascination with the mysterious and the courageous.
Deputy Justice Hall ensures criminals get what they deserve while meeting his own need for killing. When Justice returns home, he finds a note with the words, “I SEE U” along with photo evidence of him in Mexico and a heart shaped stone. Who followed Justice? What do they know? Will they exposed him?
Justice is given a new case of an unusual arson where the body of a pimp was found with a hatchet cleaved in his head. The note found at the scene has handwriting that appears familiar to him. Why is the handwriting familiar? Does Justice know the person? There is another fire and again a note was left. How does Justice fit into the killer’s path?
Is Justice losing control? Will his pass catch up with him? The ending definitely surprised me.
Stalked by Darkness is well written and has plenty of gore, horror, suspense, emotional trauma, twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.
This was nonstop drama packed thriller. I love Justice. I wavered a little, but taking in whet he went through and how he deals with it, I’m still rooting for him. I believe he is good. I was ashamed to realize that I wanted his stalker dead. Well author is very god to put your emotions and moral into a squize . She plays with her characters and is like a cat with the mouse lol. This thriller was amazing and the finale! OMG. I will never forget that. I love and really enjoy the humor and deceased people ghosts talking to Justice. I think he needs help. I hope maybe Annie will appear again. I do not envy him Justin’ blasts from the past. Thank you Mary. Lida
Justice is back in all his unhealthy glory and doing his best to survive. He is overly stressed and starting to unravel a bit. I really like how his character continues to develop! Someone is leaving him little presents and notes at crime scenes where "bad guys" have died. He even had someone leave one at his home. As the novel unfolds, he learns that someone is following him and knows some of his darkest secrets. Has he finally met his match? Is it kill or be killed or can they be his partner in crime. The novel did not end how I thought it would. Can't wait to see what happens with Justice next!
It is amazing how twisted a mind can become. Justice has lost it. He kills like a machine, he sees ghosts, and he talks to them. He has crossed more lines than could ever be constructed. And, he has convinced himself he is somehow still a good guy. After all, he only kills bad people who deserve it. Or does he. His mind is so warped, and his moral compass does not work. The last thing anyone should do is give this guy a badge. I wasn't a huge fan of this book as I think it has drifted into the macabre. This is just constant slaughter. I like good detective stories that aren't quite so gory. It seems to be starting down a new path of villains who really are the bad guys.
Justice is still fighting with his demons while searching for Sonny’s killer. His past victims ghosts keep mocking him while he is trying to do the right thing. This leads to lots of outbursts to shut them up. His boss is concerned by his strange behavior. His attempt at a love life is also falling apart. Meanwhile strange messages and a gift are being left at the most recent murders,Justice is sure they are meant for him….but who is leaving them? A true page turner as Justice runs into problems at every turn.
Justice hasn't been able to figure out this mystery of Who, What & When. He knows the how... Who is the pretty lady at most scenes, Red lipstick, big sunglasses and a fast car. Will he figure out who it is and if she is the murderer? And the ghosts...why do they keep bothering him. Fast paced, interesting and spellbinding new book from Mary Stone book in the Justice Series. You will really enjoy this book Series as much as I have if you like crime, mystery and solving along with the characters in Mary Stones books.

Another great ARC in the Villian series. This draws you further into Deputy Justice Hall life and more about his past. This book draws you in from the start and keeps you guessing til the end. Justice can't seem to Find a break. Now someone is killing people and leaving him secret messages. He knows that someone knows what he has been doing and he is not sure what they want. He is not only working on these murders but now there are souped up guns out on the streets. What is he going to do to protect himself? Will he be able to find solutions to his problema?
In this fourth book we get more insight into Justice’s character, motivations and what acts he is truly capable of committing. I must admit I was shocked and left gasping. This author holds no bars back, bravo! It is another great unconventional read from an author who never disappoints. This instalment is a ‘romance’ but done Justice style, so hold onto your seat , it’s a bumpy ride!
This Justice story was over the top. He seriously needs therapy, as he is so damaged from having been abducted from Justin. His killings are adding up, and are becoming more gruesome. He is spiraling down, & the last place he needs to be working at is in a sheriff's office.
Another great book in this series. Even though Justice is pursuing criminals in the wrong way , I still like him. He is haunted by his past with Justin Black and also keeps seeing ghosts of the people he has killed.
This book is full of mystery and suspense and I can hardly wait for the next book.
Are you serious Justin justice Justina can you think of any other name besides that1st of all I don't think of person would ever be named justice It's just so fake This whole book was Like unreal I was not too happy with Everything that happened Need to change the character name a little bit to make It sound more believable
It is difficult to emphasize with Justice Hall. He is becoming Justin Black. The plots and action are written well. It is hard to emphasize with Detective Hall, to feel him. He justifies the inner Justin too much. If Book 5 is like this one, I will probably no longer follow this series. 'Nuff said.
Has Justice met his match? Who’s killing people and leaving him special gem stones shaped as a heart? As Justice searches for the killer, the killer is stalking him. Who could it be and why? Stay tuned …
Not sure if I like Justice. He is too evil. The person stalking him was easy to figure out. Waiting to see how this series deals with all the violence and death Justice has achieved and gotten away with. I'm an ARC member and this is my honest review.
ANOTHER GREAT READ IN THIS SERIES. THE STORYLINE IS ORIGINAL AND GRABS YOU AND WON'T LET GO TILL THE END. PLENTY OF TWISTS AND TURNS TO KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES TILL THE END. WELL WRITTEN WITH GREAT CHARACTERS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES.
Just finished Stalked by Darkness, OMG, it was so good I couldn’t put it down! The twists & turns were unbelievable! I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this series, but I am hooked. Such a different read about the hero/ villain. I’m still not sure if I’m rooting for Justice to win or be caught.
Oh my goodness how many scars start showing up! Being raised by a murderer sure leaves a very scarred adult! What does the future hold for " Tiny Tim"? Will he ever find a normal life?
I liked this story about Justice and he finally finds out who is stalking him and trying to be like him, but she is more evil than him. This story had lots of suspense and action. Thank you Mary for this great book.
Stalked by Darkness (A Villain’s Story FBI Mystery Series Book 4) By Mary Stone. Justice is very busy chasing a stalking. This book is a page turner its nonstop incidence after incidence. The one you least expect to be the killer is in fact a psychopath in the name of Love..
In this one Justice has to not only deal with Murders but also with matters of the heart. Can Justice find love? Can he even love someone after what he’s been through? I loved all the mystery in this one. So exciting
Really couldn’t get into this book. The author is developing other characters which is great and yet the constant references to the previous books in the series is tedious. I do enjoy this author just not this series.
… enough with the talking ghosts already!! I love that Mary Stone infuses the supernatural in her stories, but this series - it’s getting in the way. Too many, too much ghost talk - such a good story but please ease up on the ghosts!
Weird is the word of my opinion. Great is the word for the writing. This author has a great imagination and is a superb writer. Can't wait to read the next one. Read and enjoy.
Interesting to read about the villains side of killing instead of the law. To see how there minds work and what turns them into a serial killer. These were still twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Very interesting premise that keeps you reading.
This is the fourth in the series that I have read. What a gripping storyline. The characters are very interesting also. I have to keep reading to see what will happen next.
One heck of a read. I was flabbergasted and didn't see that coming. Justice is no longer safe. He's being followed and photographed. Who has figured him out and why? This was a awesome read.
