Japan is a nation made up of many islands in the western Pacific Ocean. Over 100 million people live in this small nation of islands. Many live in the countryside, but millions live in crowded cities like Tokyo. Students will learn about the physical features of the landscape and surrounding waters as well as the cultural aspects of the Japanese from old traditions to modern everyday life.

An excellent book about a well-known country but I still learned a lot. I like to read these simple books to just get an overview of countries. The islands of Japan are bordered across the Sea of Japan by Russia, China, and North and South Korea. Japan is right on some major fault lines and has a lot of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. 60 of the 150 volcanoes in Japan are active. The Iriomote wildcat lives only on the island of Iriomote. Also, in this country are Japanese macaques, which are also called snow monkeys. They have bullet trains which can travel up to 190 miles per hour. One of their favorite dishes is miso soup.
32 pages. Another great book in the Exploring Countries series. Format and information is excellent. Great photos, charts and additional information at the end. Great job! Highly recommended Gr. 4 and up.
