Splintered Destiny

Rate this book
Brigid is fighting for her business and her life on two fronts. First, the vampires want her gone so they can have the territory to control. Second the griffins are suspicious and hanging around. She promised her griffin friend she'd keep her babies a secret, and she's kept that promise, but the time is coming where it might not be possible anymore.

She's already had to shut down her inn once she realized she couldn't protect her clients. But she's fed up, done, finished with all the stress. She has thirteen elements to command, friends, allies, and a powerful Splintercat. It's time to take the fight to the enemy, and take back what's hers.

Stand in her way, that will be fun. Best case scenario, she deals with you on her own—worst case? She lets her cat do it.

Jilleen Dolbeare is the author of the Shadow Winged Chronicles, an urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting bush pilot in Alaska.

She loves riding horses, warm ocean beaches, and long walks in the mountains, none of which she can do in the Arctic, so she writes.

Her activities are riding her four-wheeler on cold ocean beaches (often frozen or covered with ice), and long walks to and from work when it’s 40 below—in the dark. She does keep her stakes sharp for those vamps that show up during the 67 days of night.

Jilleen lives with her husband and two hungry cats in Barrow, Alaska where she also discovered her love and admiration of the Inupiaq people and their folklore.

All good things have to come to an end but I don't have to agree to be ladylike and not cry my eyes out. I have lived in the Splintered World and I don't want to go back. Jilleen Dolbeare’s Splintered Magic series has gloriously concluded with the publication of Splintered Destiny.

All my favorite characters are on board with Lady Brigid: Mr. Mittens the Splintercat, Goch, the clumsy dragon, Brightfeather the Griffin mother in hiding and everyone else. Brigid has her hands full trying to negotiate visitation between the Griffin Royal Grandparents and Brightfeather’s babies.

Brigid is also beefing up her security with the Griffin Royals, the ongoing threat of the vampires and the nature of running a supernatural B&B being challenging. Enter the Gargoyles, Sam, George and Felicity and friends. Each with the soul of a former warrior. Sam was Alexander the Great and George was Ghengis Khan. Brigid is happy with her new advisors.

To make things worse, Merlin, yes, the same guy from King Arthur, who shows up and royally (excuse the pun) screws with Brigid's plans. Surrounding a golden collar with a big ruby that came from the Dragon's Hoard is the whispered possibility of vampire killing power but with a nasty side effect. A trip home to Faerie clarifies it's use.

The fight to end all fights involves everyone Brigid can call against her old foes Ludovic the vampire, and Bella, the head of the local coven of witches. I gasped, I cheered, I cried and, well you'll have to read it to find out what happened. You won't be sorry. Magnificent conclusion to the series.

I can't believe that this is the end of this series, I only hope Jilleen decides to revisit these wonderful characters that have wormed their way into my heart. To learn more about Brightwing's brood, the adventures Megan and Goch have, whether Goch eventuality goes back to take his place to be a Prince of Dragons, to name a few of the possibilities. I just don't want it to end.
This was a very emotional book that had me in fits of laughter to sobbing my eyes out. It should have 10 stars!

A fitting coda to the series. Melancholy and triumphant at the same time.

Things have come to a head and Vampires are back to take care of the witch once and for all. The inn is closed as the group does its best to keep the juggling balls in the air and the vampires away. A deal with the dragons, another with the griffins and a superstar surprise guest who is a legend are mere diversions along the way. The master vampire makes a deal which everyone knows he will not honor. So the heat is on to plan his downfall or become his thrall or worse. Join the dead before him. With a final battle and epic teamwork will the team prevail or the evil vamps and witches? Well? Get reading and find out!

Another fantastic series complete.
Brigid and friends have a few problems – vampires, griffins, a shut down inn, and who knows what will happen.
There are old friends, new friends, action, magic, the mighty Mr. Mittens and surprises.
This series has covered all types of action and problems, but the final book brings everything together nicely.
I would gladly read any more books in this world.

Oh. My. Gosh.

This book does not pull any punches. It’s the last one and Brigid is going to go out with a bang, of her own accord! She is done waiting for others to bring the fight to her. It’s time to go on the offensive, and with Mr Mittens by her side, her enemies should be terrified.

After some very interesting side quests, Brigid finally has all the power and allies she needs at her fingertips. The Griffins are the first to bear witness to Brigid’s determination and strength that has built over the series.

Gone is the once broken woman who had come running home to heal after a horrible divorce. In her place stands a powerful Fae warrior, ready to burn the world to keep her loved ones safe.

Fortunately, the Griffins can recognize that negotiation is the only way forward and soon a satisfactory agreement is reached.

Next on the list is the vampires. Unfortunately, while Brigid was preparing, they were rebuilding and the battle that follows is nowhere near certain in its outcome.

It’s only in the final pages, and with a desperate time walk, that the winner becomes clear. The cost, however, is huge.

The good thing is that power vacuum that enticed the vampires to their town is gone. Brigid owns that space now and I pity any creature or magical that decides to take her, or Mr Mittens, on.

My favourite part of this book is the ending. Healing takes time and Jilleen finds a way to give the characters that while also sharing a future with us readers that is hopeful, even after loss. It was touching and sweet, and a perfect ending to this series.

Now, please excuse me while I go cry in my favourite reading chair for a while 😭💕

How are we at the end of this incredible series already?? It’s been one hell of a ride as we have followed Brigid and her adventures in this paranormal fantasy read. The author has done a fantastic job creating this world and pulling you in and our many characters, well some you absolutely love and others you love to hate! Brigid has had her work cut out for her what with the vampires trying to take over, ancient artifacts that need working out and bargaining with dragons, hiding Griffins and the gargoyles, it’s a wonder Brigid is sane!! With thirteen elements to command, the final stand must be made and with hopefully friends, allies, a whole lotta magic and a powerful splintercat, it’s time to take the fight to the vampires and the witches. The author has weaved their magic, answered questions and pulled everything together and even with a few twists and turns thrown our way, a few tears and a few laughs, we come to a conclusion worthy of this incredible series.

Splintered Destiny is the incredible conclusion to Jilleen Dolbeare’s Splintered Magic series. I was amazed at the final wrap up, which managed the difficult feat of being both heartbreaking and joyful at the same time. We met some startling new characters, learned more about the characters we already knew, and (thankfully) room was left for what I’m hoping will be a spin-off series.

This book included all the action we’ve come to expect from Jilleen Dolbeare, and still stressed the relationships between characters. I love the description of visits to other realms, and continue to get a huge kick out of Megan’s Dragonrider of Pern fantasy.

This was a very enjoyable series, and one I highly recommend for readers of upbeat urban fantasy.

I'm giving 3.5 stars and rounding to 4 because that's how math works.

This addition to the series addresses the issue that I've had with the series. Brigid finally admits that she's been being stupid. Unfortunately for some of the characters, that continued right on through to the end.

I loved the idea behind the series and all the amazing creatures that were introduced throughout. I enjoyed the added bits of history and lore. And, thanks to Eleanor Herman, I knew who Cynane was.

The world Dolbeare created was magical and amazing. I'd love to have a little piece of Faerie in my backyard.

Fabulous series!

I have so enjoyed each and every book in this series. Both the MFC (Brigid) and MMC (Gabe) are strong, intelligent, caring individuals. It is hard to name the others as secondary characters, especially Megan because they are so integral to the entire story. We are introduced to more mythical creatures and beings than you can imagine, and yet they all seem totally real and believable. Prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions as you will become that ride or die friend as you immerse yourself in these fabulous adventures. Oh, btw you will also want your very own Splintercat aka Mr. Mittens because he is one badass feline!

This closes out the wonderful Splintered Magic series, featuring a very relatable middle-aged protagonist who has to start fresh and find her own family and her own magic. This book is the perfect end to the series; while it could be read alone, I can't imagine that reading this by itself wouldn't send anyone back to start over at the beginning! I will be very sorry never to read another new adventure featuring Brigid and her lovely crew of allies, this was a very satisfying conclusion. It manages to have a great deal of suspense even while the many story threads are beautifully tied up. It is very hard to put down!!

Never stop believing in yourself

What a ride for the main characters. The adrenalin rush and the twists and turns and deaths. Good and bad has been a great fixture in all six books. This one tied up lots of loose ends. The grief of loss over all the characters was felt and dealt with in a respectful manner. Grief hasn't got a time limit and is different for us all. It was learning to be patient, learn about and grow your own abilities, and learn to work with others whomever they are.
I loved the 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️. Sometimes, no matter what you do, bad things happen to. Most importantly, be yourself, and then you can go help others.
Looking forward to reading more from Jilleen.

I enjoyed visiting with old friends again. Just love Mr Mittens in either form! Brigid is awesome as are the other familiar characters.
Jilleen Dolbeare writes so well its like you are right there with Brigid and friends.
Splintered Destiny is a must read for any one that likes magic and critters!
What a roller coaster of a ride. Brigid just can't get a break. First it's witches trying to drive her from her ancestral home now it's vampires. Who knew gargoyles could help? In the end tho the vampires score a huge win leaving Brigid frantically searching for her best friend
Shape shifters and Fae gather together to help and an unwelcome guest o two try to destroy the b n b for shape shifters.
A fast paced read anyone any age would enjoy
Am so thrilled I was an Arc reader and got to read this wonderful story.

Enthralling series

Fluidly written, enthralling story with a hint of a little “amore”, and a strong story line that wants you to keep reading until the end; just the way I love it.
If you are looking for long, drawn out, repetitive seduction scenes, these books are not for you but if you enjoy books filled with mythical beings & their stories, a heroine coming back to life after abuse & betrayal, you will enjoy Jilleen Dolbeare’s books.
After reading the first book in this series, I’ve become a definite fan of her eloquence & style.

Splintered Destiny(Splintered Magic#6) by Jilleen Dolbeare was a great ending to the series and I recommend. In this book Brigid is fighting for her business and her life on two fronts. First the vampires want her gone so they can control the territory. Second the griffins are suspicious and hanging around, she had promised her griffin friend to keep her babies a secret but the time is coming where that might be no longer possible. Fantastic series

I’ve absolutely loved this series.
One of the big positives is that it’s not about young girls, but women who have experienced life and for who these adventures are new to them. There is peril and adventure and some sadness, but laughs along the way too.
It seems as if the series is about to head off in a slightly different direction and I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes.

Couldn't stop reading!!

No matter how gullible or stupid I thought Brigid could be at times, I couldn't put the book down!! I'd be reading, and at the same time, I'd be telling her "NO, don't do that"!! Then I kept reading to see if I was right! LOL!
All 6 books were a wonderfully fun escape, and Mr Mittens, I just LOVED that cat!! He was my favorite among the "critters"! Mostly because I saw a LOT of my THREE cats in him, Jilleen just gave them voices!
WELL DONE!!

splintered Destiny

Wow what a ride! The most extraordinary book I’ve ever read! The tension build up over the pages, the fae and humanity, witches and vampires, magical beasts, all wonderfully created as real characters . So descriptive and precise I could probably draw the house, the woods, the waterfall and rock, wolves, dragons, griffons and of course the adorable but fierce Mr Mittens. But one thing I have to say is, I’ll never think of unicorns the same ever again!!

You don’t want to miss this series!

Wonderfully written by Jilleen! Her imagination is beyond compare with her story telling abilities. Another great series where every book is hard to put down as you become so engrossed with the characters, their lives, their friends, their enemies, their love and losses too. Hoping for a continuation of this series!!! Thank you Jilleen for writing this series!!!

Amazing!

I haven't written a review on the first 5 books.
I wanted to wait until the end of the series. All of the books were wonderful!
While getting to know the characters through the series, I was unarmed with the funny parts, and the fighting, had me sitting on the edge of my seat.
This is my first time reading Jilleen Dolbeare. She wrote an amazing storyline.
I enjoyed it immensely.
I recommend this series to everyone. 😊

Um, did the author just get bored and say fuck it, I’m done? Because what finally happened in the final book- the FMC gets her magical shit together, but she decides that the loyal best friend and the wolves just get a shut out? Even the final battle made zero sense, but that actually wasn’t a change from the other books.
Man- from a delightful little story to end with just a phoned in ending and a tit punch, this makes me regret reading the series altogether !

Take control of your life!
Brigid will grow by dealing with her many responsibilities and her thirteen powers. She has great friends standing with her every step of the way. Jilleen paints a wonderful, vivid picture that lets you envision this very interesting, fast paced story. A lot of interesting details are revealed in this magical story.

Epic Finale

The last in this series, it does not disappoint. Griffins on one side, Vamps on the other and a lot of drama in between. Mr. Mittens is my spirit animal.
This ties up the series perfectly and is well crafted and also offers a sneak peak at a new series. Jill has done a fantastic job and I can't wait for the next.

Full steam ahead

Brigid drives me crazy! She’s so bloody gullible. Fortunately she has some wonderful friends, well known ones too, it seems. She just needs to outright destroy those despicable vampires before they destroy her. So many twists and turns, you need to keep your wits about you to keep up. Loved it. Hope there are more adventures to follow.

Splintered yes, gone no!

How does a 40-something woman who is newly divorced become the owner of a supernatural B and B? Fae magic, of course. Dragons, vampires, witches, griffins, and werewolves, oh my! I read the entire series and only wish for more. Kudos to Ms. Dolbeare. Really enjoyable books!

Final book is a tear jerker with HEA

This is the final Book and the splinter cat series. There's always plenty of adventure And it is a nail-biter for sure. I don't wanna give any of the stories away but it was an emotional rollercoaster but it ended with a happily ever after. I really didn't want this series to end.

Even the secondary characters are memorable

The vampires are scary, the adult griffins are fierce and forbidding while the triplets are adorable, and so is Milk Dud, but I really wish more of the gargoyles past was revealed! Some of the fiercest earth warriors were there but never had a voice. I enjoyed the series and would recommend it for lovers of fantasy.

Excellent series

I'm happy to have found this series,. It had a lot of adventure. Loads of friendship bonds and loads of evil enemies. The losses were hard for me , I've experienced it too many times. But she didn't dwell on them so it wasn't ripping open old wounds. It just reminded where my scars are. All in all it is a great series. The humor is great too.
