«During periods of crisis, leveraged players need a way out, even if it means cashing out the best names. This is what a fire sale looks like.»

«It is always darkest before dawn. You get great buying prices only during a crisis. If you wait for clarity to emerge, you will have to pay a much higher price.»

India hadde bjørnemarked allerede i 2017. Innsiktene er for øvrig bedre strukturert og poengert i hans nydelige The Joys of Compounding.

I had been so much looking forward to read the follow up book after Joys of Compounding but I was very disappointed as this new book was only about the Indian Stock market and some reflections Gautam did while being in the middle of a long down period for the Indian Stock markets

📚 The Journey to Value Investing Mastery.

From the author of book "The Joys of Compounding”, Gautam Baid is back again with an insightful book full of valuable lessons.

The journal unfolds his personal learning, highlighting his own victories and failures and making his way through the bear market and rising above all. Baid's storytelling, akin to a journey through time, skillfully immerses readers in his evolving worldview. The chronological presentation of journal entries, accompanied by insightful retrospective commentary, opens up a treasure trove of timeless investment principles.

Coming from a non-trading background, bear market goes above my head. However, with his side by side commentry, the author has made the content intriguing and understandable. His experiences has now become a roadmap for me and readers, offering profound insights into the essence of value investing.

Overall, "The Making of a Value Investor" transcends its narrative, delivering invaluable lessons on navigating financial markets and cultivating resilience.  If you seek a guide through the highs and lows of investment survival, this book is a must-read.

These are Portfolio Manager Gautam Baid's daily takeway notes between the Great smallcap/midcap bear market in India between January 2018 and March 2020. It's interesting to read a long term Value Investor's views, beliefs and disbeliefs, learnings and, predictions on unexpected events during a prolonged phase of bloodbath.

A journal/diary with entries (not daily) about what markets were upto on those days with some tid-bits here and there. Half the entries are just how much % stocks/markets went up/down on particular days. Pointless and not sure why this book was even together.

It's an investment journal, and the author didn't put much effort into this book. However, I read it through anyway, because it's about India and very recent history of mid-small cap stocks.

This was an interesting book, although a bit of a misdirect as I originally thought it was going to be an organized book with some structure on....how the author actually became a value investor a la the title: 'making of a value investor'.

INSTEAD, this is basically an investment journal. He jots down his thoughts everyday, and many times they are random. Would have been nice to see some post-journal commentary or something on some of these entries.

I do like the raw nature of it though, especially since I lived through some of the same experiences as an investor during the 2020 covid pandemic. Author should have been a little better in communicating what the book is, and also organizing his thoughts better. Better to title it some sort of investment journal.

He even states, "what a bear market taught me about investing". Would have been nice for him to answer that or summarize all his journal entries towards the end.
