A ritualistic killer. A sleepy town. Zero suspects …

Genevieve Callow, the FBI’s top criminal profiler, is growing tired of her constant race against the clock.

A quieter life seems possible, until a hike in the woods around the town of Roxobel leads to the discovery of a victim’s body covered in runes on a bloody altar.

Local law enforcement are outmatched and under-equipped, and the townspeople are terrified by the evidence of more rituals to come …

First on scene, Callow and her team are immediately assigned to the case, her short reprieve now interrupted by a cunning and sadistic killer who knows exactly who she is.

The townsfolk are depending on Callow to solve the case before the bodies pile up, because the killer has made one thing clear …

He is far from finished …

No More Chances by David Viergutz continues the story of the life of Genevieve Callow, her partner Marcus,  and a new FBI agent that was introduced to the readers in the last book. This time, the FBI duo are taking a well deserved vacation after closing a notorious case. Of course, even a vacation doesn't stop Jenny from having to pull out her badge when another serial killer strikes again.

This book is a fantastic "who did it?" with plenty of suspects in the small town. The author's talent on making every character so distinct and lifelike, adds to the suspense and suspicious nature of everybody involved.

What is just that old town vibe, and what is suspicious behavior, and can the FBI team untangle the two to make a solid profile? Can the small town with a serial killer problem confess its secrets in order to help find the suspect?

I would say my only critique on this book is that it took a while before the meat of the story began. As a continuation of Callow's story, I felt there was still a bit too much character building on characters we already know. Additionally, the description of cigarette smoking seemed very repetitive with nearly everybody in the small town setting that it started to feel a bit unnecessary.

Don't let these stop you from reading this book, however. The twist and turns, clues, and the urgency to solve the case along with Callow is a very chaotic, enjoyable ride! I found myself absorb in to the mystery and pivking apart the characters story as if I were part of the team. I am eager to see how things unfold next and see Callow grow further, and figure out what she truly wants.

No More Chances is the second book in the Callow and Oakley series and I think better than the first (One More Victim), which is also very good. Viergutz does a good job of telling you enough about the prior story that it is not required be read before this one. I do, however, think it will add to your enjoyment of this story.

One of the things that makes this author's thrillers so believable is the fact that he is a police officer in real life. It affords him the ability to provide a very realistic look at how police process crimes, both physically and mentally.

The other aspect that I really enjoy about his writing is the character development. Callow and Oakley are people you want to succeed; not only professionally, but as a couple as well. They balance each other in both aspects. In this story we get to learn more about Wainright, and it turns out he isn't as bad as guy as he seemed in the prior. I particularly like that he began his own relationship with small-town teacher, Cameron.
The locals of the small town of Roxobel are also great characters, the Sherriff and hotel owner Kos are both likeable, but can you really trust them? It's hard to say. The small town feel the author creates is perfect. I think almost everyone has been to a town just like it in their life.

This is a thriller and everyone is a suspect and I went back and forth on who I thought the killer was. I will say there was one tiny little clue that I caught that made one person the primary (I think that's what the cops call them), see if you can find it too.

Overall, No More Chances is a very good read and I look forward to the next installment in the series.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story begins with Jen, Marcus and Kurt in Myrtle Beach having taken a few days off after their last case. They determine that is time to head back and are only a couple hours away when Marcus decide to take a turn off into a town called Roxobel. Upon arriving and checking into their motel, they receive a visit by the sheriff. Jen asks what there is to do and he tells her about a couple of trials for hiking. The next day, Jen, Marcus and Kurt decide to go for a hike and they happen to run accross a dead body on what seems to be a rock alter. All of a sudden, they have a new case which was unplanned.

Upon beginning their investigation, they also discover a cold case which happened 25 years earlier. Jen had a gut feeling that there was a connection between what happened then and this latest body. Marcus was not convinced. A second body was discovered later and recordings were found with both that projected a potential third body was to occurr. Their task was to now prevent this next killing.

Follow along as the team begins their dearch following what little evidence was available. Meet Kos, the motel keeper, a discover what role he plays in the story. See what Jen has to defeat in her attempt to solve this case. Learn the backstory why Jen and Marcus took time off as well as discover who the killer was and how it related to the event that happened 25 years ago.

The ending is well done and it is definitely a book worth reading.

This was another fantastic, suspenseful, and thrilling murder mystery with my favorite FBI agents, Genevieve (Jenny), Marcus and newbie Kent. Even a so-called vacation can’t keep these agents from running into some kind of trouble, or maybe it’s just that trouble finds them!

Jenny, Marcus and Kent take us on a rollercoaster ride of emotional turmoil, drama, violence, secrets, and murder all in the small town of Roxobel. We all know what small towns are like, where everyone knows everyone’s business. But when you throw a serial killer into the mix, everyone wants a part of the spotlight, and your neighbor is a suspect.

I enjoy Jenny and Marcus’ banter throughout. They are having some hardships in their relationship, which has their emotions running high. But with this new serial killer on the loose, both are questioning their futures with the FBI.

This is a really well written story with loads of mystery and twists that kept me on the edge of my seat questioning who actually did it. I tried to pick apart the clues with Jenny but she was one step ahead of me. It was hard to gauge who to trust and who not to trust in the end.

I highly enjoyed this story and look forward to the next thrilling rollercoaster ride with Genenieve and Marcus.

No More Chances is the second book in the Callow and Oakley FBI Thriller by David Viergutz. No More Chances kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. No More Chances grabbed my attention from the first page. The mystery surrounding the murder scenes kept me hooked. I could imagine it all as I was reading.

No More Chances is one of those books that will make you set up and take notes. It will stay with you long after you have read the last page. Just to imagine it all but wait I don’t think I want to but alas it is too late.

No More Chances is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I have been reading stories and watching TV shows of this nature for a while now. No More Chances reminds me so much of quite a few TV shows. I do think that the Callow and Oakley series would make a great TV show. I know I would watch it.

The mystery alone is enough to keep those pages turning. But the many twists and turns that kept me in suspense played a big role as well. I can’t wait to read more about Callow’s adventures in future books.

I highly recommend No More Chances to all murder mystery fans! Grab a copy of No More Chances today!

I like books about strong female protagonist and this author has developed an awesome character, Callow. She is feisty, determined and does whatever it takes to solve a case. Marcus and Callow are supposed to be on ‘vacation’ but with Callow: there will always be a case to chase. While on a hike in some desolated forest she stumbles across a body. The circumstances are very strange. Because the group is in a small town, the investigation hits blocks at every turn. The town has become hunting grounds for a terrible predator. The more Callow investigates the more she is bewildered; questioning her abilities as a profiler.

Wow! I cannot say to much in this review without giving spoilers! I enjoyed this book as much as the first book. Knowing the author has ties to law enforcement only makes the book more believable. The author also kept these agents human by giving them real world problem like the rest of us civilians. Reading this book was like watching any detective show on television. Go read this book!

Once more we slip into the world of Genevieve Callow , Marcus Oakley and newbie Kurt Wainwright. On the way back from a short vacation, the trio stop in a small town for a rest. While they are there, Callow, feeling restless, decides to stretch her legs. It should have been a simple hike in the wood. A way for Callow to decompress. Clear her head of the "noise". It seemed to be working... until she and Wainwright found the body. David writes real characters ... vulnerable, flawed, jaded, and some downright unlikeable, but never boring. The situations he writes about are totally believable and well written. Easy read but only because of the excitement and almost non stop action. This is a very difficult book to put down for any reason.
I received a free advance reader's copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion of the tale.

This is one more nail-biting thriller. Mr. Viergutz explores the depths of revenge and twisted emotions to such a degree this reader found herself having to remember to breathe. The suspense, tension, and anticipation wind one spring coil tight. My only issue is that I found myself wanting to strangle Callow at times. She is her own worst enemy and seems to require more from herself than she would ever think of requiring from others. At times, Callow seems to have an 'I know better than anyone" mind-set and it bugs me. Never enough to even consider not reading the next book, but enough to notice.
I highly recommend this series and hope it runs for quite some time.

FBI profilers Callow, Marcus, and Wainwright *thought* they were getting a well deserved vacation. But trouble finds them on the way home, in a small NC town. They don't really want to be there, the local law enforcement reluctantly accepts their help, and the townspeople are won over when the body count increases. Forget the stereotypical big agents vs hick locals- the characters are well wrought and the agents, well, I really love these guys! And Callow's struggles, I mean damn. She's one tough cookie, but vulnerable too. Marcus & Wainwright complement her so well. Can't wait to see what's next!

This is the 3rd book of the Callow and Oakley series that I’ve read and I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan.
Viergutz writes extremely well. The main characters are great people, and in this story we’ll get to know them even better than we already did after reading RED MUD RIVER and ONE MORE VICTIM.. The plot is intriguing and complex, yet understandable.
Fingers crossed that many more novels will follow!

After solving a harrowing case, Genevieve, Marcus and Kurt are on a well-earned break and stop off in a quiet town to relax. Unfortunately they become embroiled with a dangerous, taunting, murderer. Genevieve doesn't appear to be her usual confident self, and puts herself in danger once again. Well-written, action-packed murder mystery which keeps you on the edge of your seat. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Callow is recovering gradually from her last encounter with a serial killer but duty calls when there is a spate of ritualistic murders. Her partner Marcus is her greatest support and together they are determined to find justice for the victims. An edge of the seat thriller which had me completely captivated.

Still love this series even though this one I saw coming early on. Honestly though the characters are flawed and relatable and make me think of Criminal Minds only without all of the other characters. I truly enjoy Viergutz's writing and find myself getting wrapped up reading. I wish there was more to read already.

A bone-chilling story that sets Callow, Marcus, and Wainwright against a cunning and dangerous killer set in a small North Carolina town. Yes, evil happens and this is a stomach-churning novel that proves just that. A perfect thriller. Highly Recommended.

Callow, Marcus and Wainwright are on vacation after the last case. They take a detour on the way home and stumble onto a case. This case is in a small town not used to outsiders. Can they gain trust and stop a killer or will they be to late? Full of twists and turns. Amazing characters.

Another great book by David. I love that these books have characters that feel real. Nothing super-human about them. Good bit of action in this serial killer novel. Loved it!
