This very well written thrilling page turner focuses on Ciro and Adelaide.
They meet and have heated moment one evening. She then find out about her brothers death which appears to be an accident…. Turns out he owes a lot of money. To whom? You guessed it, MMC, Ciro. Ciro has come collect.
I enjoyed her internal dialogue when she was fighting temptations.
When Adelaide's brother is killed in an accident, she goes to clean up his place. Finding a note from a loan shark she responds with the obvious answer that they will not be getting their money as he has passed away. Adelaide quickly finds herself kidnapped by Ciro, the loan shark, and having to work as a maid in his house to pay off the debt.
Ciro can't seem to stay away from Adelaide, he is completely entranced by her. His loan shark business is struggling and he is trying to figure out why. Ciro acts on his feelings though for Adelaide and finds she feels the same way, what will happen when it is time to let her go?
This was a bit rushed for me to be a complete story. Good chemistry between Ciro and Adelaide but the but I just wanted a little bit more of their getting together. Would check out more from this author though as the premise was entertaining.
This was a sweet little story. It's not really dark it's more of a mafia/loan shark lite. The two are attracted to each other before everything goes down with her brother so the subsequent attraction feels valid. Also it's more of a strangers to lovers and not necessarily enemies.
Adelaide is out having fun and making out with a handsome man when she opens her eyes to see the face of her brother on the tv, what's worse? Finding out this way that he died in a hit and run accident! She runs out of the bar. The day of the funeral is miserable with steady rain. He is the last of her family. Not very many mourners are present. She notices there were 4 strange men in black suits standing at the edge of the cemetery. As she is leaving she looks at the 4 men and notices one that she found very attractive but kept going to her car. The next day she went to her brother's apartment to clear it and get the mail. She opens the letter from the box with the junk mail which turns out to be a reminder that he is overdue on a repayment of a debt. She replies to it and puts it back for post man to process. The next time she stops by to pick up boxes to donate, she checks the box again and finds another letter from the same sender...she puts it in her pocket. After she drops his things off at a thrift shop, she goes back to her car and reads the letter, replying that Matt will not be paying anything as he is dead and had no money, and signed it love, Adelaide. The next day she returns to work. A man comes in for a coffee and she realizes she saw him at the funeral with 3 other men and it makes her nervous. She goes home after her shift, retrieves her mail and goes to her apartment...and notices the letter...another demand for money and a threat. She is furious and writes another, less polite, letter back and changes the meeting place and time. Back at Ciro's home, he gets ready for a meeting...he's the guy from the bar, and as it turns out, the person Matt owed money to. To top it all off, he is obsessed with Adelaide! He decides he will take this meeting with her. At the meeting, she stands her ground with him and his two employees but is eventually overpowered. They take her back to Ciro's compound and lock her in a room. She is now a housekeeper until the debt is paid. The next morning, after the alarm goes off, she gets ready for her day. Her first chore is cleaning Ciro's room. Her days all seem to pass the same way. At the end of her first week, Lydia, her supervisor, tells her that Ciro had installed a tv in her room. She is not impressed but thanks her anyway. She clocks out in her room and turns the tv on to see her picture flash on the news followed by a story of another person dying in a hit and run. She is frustrated one morning as someone keeps spilling orange juice around the house. As she rinses the cloth she sees Ciro in the kitchen...he deliberately spills water...the next thing she knew she was in his arms and being kissed like never before....how far does this go? She is assigned new duties to include outside in the fresh air. While she is cleaning up outside she notices a man lurking in the backyard! She doesn't know him so she hides...finally two of Ciro's men tackle him! She goes inside hoping to hear what is going on. Turns out he is from a rival who gives Ciro an ultimatum which Ciro tells him to tell his boss what he can do with that order. The trespasser then gives him condolences for the loss of some of his clients. Adelaide realizes that Ciro had nothing to do with her brother's death, but there is definitely a connection to the 3 deaths! How does she get revenge??? This story really starts heating up. Will she find justice for Matt and the other victims now that she knows they were all murdered? She knows there is a connection! Is there a mole in the house? Will the bond forming between Adelaide and Ciro keep growing to something more? Will the enemy be defeated? Will there be a happy ending? Susan C.
This intriguing story kept me glued to the pages because it is filled with mystery and suspense that captivates and have you guessing what is really happening. Adelaide loses her brother in what appeared to be a hit and run but she learns later that is not the case. She is taken in by Ciro the person her brother owes money to, and it begins them along a path one that is filled with twists and turns and had me connecting with Adelaide and Ciro to get their chance to find happiness. It is a well written story that is descriptive along with likeable character. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
Maya, a new to me author that I lucked upon. Pretty good story, mafia meets sweet and innocent. The girl gets snatched up by a very bad boy. We get sassy vs dark and brooding. Is it stilled called lurking if it's your house you're lurking in? Hmm? He just seems to be there. All dark and grumpy, then he's not. The zing is there between them and when the game gets deadly serious what's a good girl and bad boy to do? As it's a good story I just got a lil bogged down in the drag.
Loved this story. During a heated encounter at a bar, Adelaide looks up and sees her brother’s face plastered across the news. After his funeral she finds out that he owed someone a lot of money. She confronts the loan sharks to tell them that she is not responsible for her brother. Ciro doesn’t care and forces Adelaide to work off her brother’s debt. This story has a little bit of everything. Couldn’t put it down.
I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Really didn't feel like a mafia read it was to soft and what mafia boss has money problems and let's a rat just walk away. None that I've read lately. There was a dull ending it just stopped.
It was fine. Honestly, the premise was good it was just a miss for me. I feel like it was rushed and the character development wasn't there. For a mob boss he was soft, which isn't what I normally go for. For a mafia trope it was missing that dark edge.
