A sweeping drama of danger, intrigue, and love... He was sold into slavery as a young man. But the canker of this evil festered within Onesimus until he could no longer contain its eruption. His desperate longing to be the master of his own life overshadowed all other desires, and he compromised his honor by lying and stealing in order to risk the furtive freedom of a runaway slave. Fearful, guilty, and insecure, Onesimus sought the truth of Christianity, and found in it the only true liberation.
While I enjoy Biblical fiction, this reminds me of an emotional piece where the evangelism puts the story in the background. The characters are not well defined and are set up only to portray the emotional view of the writer. Give it a C.
Very exciting at the end. The author's note says "the details and background are authentic". Interesting. I assumed that the author had taken the story of Philemon's slave from Paul's letter and expanded on it...
