Chasing Dreams on Oak Tree Lane

Rate this book
A new contemporary, cosy romance series for 2024 set in the beautiful Northumberland countryside, bringing you heartfelt stories and characters you'll fall in love with!

Take a stroll down Oak Tree Lane, the home of cosy community and healing hearts.

Meg always dreamed of moving to Lower Oakley and opening her own art shop. She just never envisaged doing it alone. Faced with the blank canvas that is her new life, she's determined to fill it with colour to match her usually sunny personality.

Josh never dreamed he'd be running his late wife's gallery alone, his little daughter the only light in a life filled with shadows and hurt. Happiest with a hammer and chisel, Josh is hesitant to carve his own path, while his grumpy demeanour is hardly a magnet for a new relationship.

Strange things can happen on Oak Tree Lane, though, when hesitant hearts feel an instant connection.

Can Meg and Josh paper over the cracks of their past losses and paint a new future together?

Or do they not share the same dream after all?

Note from the Author: Whilst some of the residents of Oak Tree Lane will pop up in each book in the series, the stories can be read either in order or as stand alone romances.

R. A. Hutchins is a British author of both cosy murder mysteries and even cosier romance. What her books all share in common, though, is a strong sense of place and strength of community as well as an endearing cast of characters.
In Rachel's contemporary romance, you can normally find themes of hope and new beginnings, loss and mental health, though her characters are always guaranteed their happily ever after and her stories have more than a splash of heady romance!
Rachel's favourite hobbies are reading, walking along the beach with her family, visiting new places, and seeing her flowers grow in the spring and summer months. Rachel particularly enjoys going out for coffee and cake when it also involves catching up with good friends. Now living in northeast England, Rachel has fond memories of the nine years she spent in Scotland.

Dreams are beautiful. They add taste to our lives. But is it worth it to pursue them at all costs?

Meg and Josh have different answers to this question. Life has taught them a few harsh lessons, but they both have their own reasons not to give up. It might seem they are similar, but it’s their attitude to chasing dreams that makes them polar opposites.

Meg has just dived head-first into her dream. She moved to Lower Oakley, the town that's keeping all her cherished childhood memories. She believes that opening her art shop here will make her happy and chase away the demons of her past.

Josh has learned the hard way that dreams can lead to a disaster that cannot be undone. He has no other choice than to live with the consequences of her wife’s reckless chase after her dreams. For him, following one’s dream is almost taboo. Yet, having denied himself to chase his own dream, he is determined to give his little daughter all the opportunities to follow hers.

Meg and Josh meet at the worst possible moment when falling in love and starting a new relationship are the last things on their minds. Besides, Meg’s determination to fulfil her dream is a huge stop sign for Josh. He thinks that such obsession can’t lead to anything good.

“Chasing Dreams on Oak Tree Lane” by R.A. Hutchins is a heart-warming story of two people overcoming the prejudices their life lessons have led them to adopt.

Having read other romance novels by this author, I was eager to read more. I’ve come to appreciate R.A. Hutchins’s ability to wrap the reader in the knot of emotions of the characters and feel what they’re going through.

I recommend this book to all romance book lovers who appreciate reading about people who, despite struggling with all kinds of trauma, keep the light of hope in their hearts.

A heartwarming romance

What a heartwarming read! I immediately fell in love with the quaint village by the sea which was described beautifully by the author. The characters were all wonderful - especially little Betsie. If you’re looking for a cosy, warm romance with new beginnings, this is the perfect book! I’m looking forward to exploring Jenna’s story in the next book.

Cute romance
Meg and Josh along with Betsie warm their way to the story as Meg and Josh are on their second chance.
Claire’s abrupt accident left Josh alone to take care of his daughter. There are other troubles too and Josh is not willing to solve it.
Meg is away from Chris following her dream. Meg has been a people pleaser and that has hurt her a lot.
With circumstances starting from Billy and a little accident, their lives come together as they realize their feelings and reasons to be together.
Jenna tries to help to reach the two of them, but the trouble is in the form of Josh’s beliefs in following dreams and the trouble it would cause. Will Meg and Josh be able to sort it out? (Jenna’s story is probably the next to follow in the series!)
Short, cute romance about second chances.

A short and sweet novella for readers of gentle cosy fiction. Meg has moved alone to the little village that played a huge part in her childhood. Trying to establish a new art gallery, Meg falls foul of the local “grumpy” who also happens to be very easy on the eye. Will Meg’s “sunshine” manage to win him over? It helps that he has an adorable little daughter who quickly forms an attachment to Meg and that the other villagers welcome Meg with open arms.

This little book is sweet almost to the point of being too sweet and would not suit those who like a little more grit in their reading, or for those who want the featured couple to have to work for their happy ever after. But it is perfect for readers with a sweet tooth who like their treats clean, wholesome, and with no nasty angst or shocks along the way.

A light and entertaining read to cheer a gloomy day and lift the spirits.

A new start for both characters

I know I’m always in safe hands with R.A. Hutchins and her newest book did exactly as promised. This is a heartwarming, cute, and cosy romance set in Northumberland, England. It is beautifully written with rich descriptions and tender moments. If you’re looking for an uplifting closed-door romance, this is the perfect comfort read for a blustery autumn day.

The cozy setting of Chasing Dreams on Oak Tree Lane made for a perfect sweet romance!

I enjoyed reading about the characters and the idea of following your dreams. The story had the right amount of family/friends, conflict, humor, and swoon worthy moments. I am looking forward to reading future books in this series!
