This is a phenomenal account of something that 99.9% of humanity never thinks about except when they are at the beach. Sand is essential to so much of everyday life that we completely take it for granted: concrete, glass, computers, roads. The book traces the growing degree of scarcity of sand - the right kind of sand - around the world, and how it is leading to conflict in certain locales.
