The World of Edwardiana

The King who gave his name to the Edwardian age reigned for just over nine years, but his cavalier spirit embraced a much wider span. From the naughty nineties to the outbreak of the Great War, Edward VII set the pace for the glittering era when motor cars and Gaiety Girls were young and beautiful.

Whilst sleeping children hugged their ‘teddy’ (Roosevelt) bears and dreamt of Peter Pan, their fashionable parents danced the tango in the Palm Court of the Ritz Hotel, whilst the lower orders thrilled to the boisterous delights of the Music Hall. Liberty and Tiffany, Selfridge and Heal spread the gospel of Art Nouveau, a style which influenced everything from architecture to advertising. Biographs and garden parties, Oscar Wilde and Caruso were all part of these vintage years. The World of Edwardiana recaptures the age through its’ furniture and decorative arts: here are posters and picture postcards, dragonfly lamps and lustre dishes, penny toys and pewter vases. All these treasures and many more are gathered together for the delight of collectors and those who just enjoy looking back with envy at the ‘good old days’.
