What does killing houseplants, cowpie cookies, ugly feet, and lost keys have to do with The Book of Mormon? Everything! Women Read 365 Daily Devotionals from The Book of Mormon offers a daily companion to The Book of Mormon, accompanied by relatable stories and poignant anecdotes that illuminate the scriptures' timeless wisdom with every excerpted verse. Each devotional will take only a few minutes a day to lift your spirits and fill your minds with new insights into gospel principles. It will offer an added boost to your Come Follow Me scripture study and includes a coordinated daily quote from Church leaders. With their perceptive and compassionate voices, authors Marianna Richardson, Sarah Moss, and Christine Thackeray, hosts of the Women Read Scripture podcast, take the eternal truths of the scriptures and show how they enrich a woman's everyday life. From dealing with a rebellious teenager to enduring a fussy toddler, emotional and marriage issues to doctrinal questions, The Book of Mormon holds truths that clarify and help cope with each situation. Through their study and experience, the authors illustrate that the greatest gifts are often waiting under the deepest laundry pile. In a world of unrealistic expectations and unhealthy stereotypes, these down-to-earth devotionals will help the reader to find the glory in the mundane. "Sometimes things don't go picture perfect on our own covenant path, but that doesn't diminish the beauty of it."
The goal when studying scriptures either individually or in a classroom environment, is to figure out how we can relate to and use them in our own lives. Women Read Scripture is a book that does just that. It is apparently meant to be read one-page-per-day over the course of a year, but I started reading page one, flipped to page two, and kept on going. Every page has a Book of Mormon scripture at the top, followed by a short explanation or idea of how that scripture can relate to today’s life, and then at the bottom of each page is a related quote by a General Authority or someone else with great insight. Going through this book is like reading someone’s journal – something fresh and different every day. If a reader just wants a really quick mini-devotional moment, then read one page per day… but I liked reading a lot of pages at once. When the new year starts, I will start over, take it one page per day, and concentrate on using each page for self-improvement and wisdom.
What a wonderful way to begin your day in 2025 - a quick daily devotional from the Doctrine and Covenants - our course of study in Come Follow Me for the new year. These one-page uplifts begin with a verse or sentence from the Doctrine and Covenants in chronological order, then a delightful personal observation or story linked to the lesson of the say, and ending with a quote from our General Authorities, usually a quote from a general conference talk. Just what we need to get going in the morning when we don't have time to dive into more intense scripture study. Christine, Ganel-Lyn and Marianne share insights into their personal lives with life lessons we can all relate to - and tie them to the scripture of the day and back to our Savior. Thank you, Cedar Fort, for sending me this ARC - what a privilege to be able to review these amazing books - and just in time to order for Christmas presents!
I love the format of this daily devotional book. First there is a Book of Mormon scripture, then an anecdote or personal experience that one of the authors ties in to the scripture, then lastly, a quote from one of the prophets, apostles or other prominent member of the church. I love how the three components weave together a theme for each day and provide a wonderful spiritually uplifting way to start or end your day (or uplift at whatever time of day you have a few moments to read). They are quick & concise, but personal & meaningful.
Thank you to Cedar Fort Books for an ARC of this book. All thoughts & comments in this review are my own.
This book has captured my thoughts. I know the format of the book is to read one entry per day, but I find myself reading more than one. I like how scripture is cited at the top of each page, followed by thoughts from the author, finishing with a quote from a general authority. As I have read the thoughts of the author, I find it triggers my own thoughts. Somedays I enjoy the experience and move on with my day. However, many days, I find myself thinking about it throughout the day.
I have enjoyed this book very much.
I received an advanced copy of Women Read Scripture, but all thoughts on this book are my own.
We have always been told to apply the scriptures to our lives. This book is a great example of doing just that. Real-life experiences told by the women who wrote this book. Each to help us understand the power the scriptures can have in our modern-day lives. I enjoyed the devotionals (one author spoke to me more than the others) but they sometimes fell a little flat for me, and at times it felt like the author was "reaching" to fit their real-life anecdote into a particular verse of scripture. Overall, though, it's a very enjoyable read and just like potato chips, hard to read just one. I received an advanced ready copy of this book, but my opinions are my own.
I got about a fourth of the way through the book. Each daily page has a scripture verse and short quote from past General Conferences, which are great. Accompanying the verses and quotes are anecdotal blurbs from the authors, one per page. I understand that the point of this book is to keep each page short and sweet for a time-efficient daily devotional for busy women, but these blurbs are so short and CHOPPY that they seem to make only half the point they are trying to make. Honestly, just open your copy of The Book of Mormon to read a chapter (or verse if you’re even shorter on time, which is totally okay) or find a random conference talk read or listen to instead.
If you have just a few minutes each day, you can read a brief scripture, a fun personal experience related to that scripture, and find a quote from one of our church leaders on the same topic.
An exciting way to expand both your personal scripture reading and your “Come Follow Me” study.
Marianna is a mother of twelve, institute teacher, BYU adjunct professor, and a great lady. Christine is her messy sister (me), with seven kids and a bad attitude most of the time. Sarah Moss is Christine's daughter and a beautiful mother of three little ones in the throws of life.
This book was delightful! It has a thought for each day of the year related to a chapter in the Book of Mormon, paired with a quote from a Prophet or General Authority of the church. The examples really spoke to me because they were from the perspective of women. The book was inspiring and thought provoking. There was a small amount of text for each day and one main thought to ponder. I will definately be reading this book each day. I read an ARC copy of this book, but the opinions are all my own.
The content of this book is based on scriptures taken from the Book of Mormon. Each day the authors give readers the opportunity to immerse themselves in reading a one-page daily devotional which consists of a scripture, a thought-provoking message, and a quote from church leaders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I feel that these devotionals are strengthening my understanding and testimony of gospel principles that will help me weather the storms of life. I received an ARC copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
I enjoy this book because I can read a page a day that includes a specific scripture from the Book of Mormon, a thought that goes along with the scripture and a quote from an apostle or Church Leader. It helps me relate to the scripture and think of my own experiences. I bought this book after I received an advanced copy of Women Read Scripture: Daily Devotions From The Book Of Mormon, but all thoughts on this book are my own. I just iked the advanced copy so much I wanted to have a hard copy to mark up and share with my family. Great book!
This book gives the user just the right mix of scripture, general authority comment, and personal experience to start, or end, the day on the right note. I found the personal experiences to be well-written and inspiring without being preachy. This book is great for anyone looking to dig a littler deeper into the teachings of the Book of Mormon.
Today I just started reading a book that reminds me of how my mother taught me how to take in and be spiritual. Now 52 years old and this book brought me back to when I was 14 and listening to my mother and father and learning of Christ. Even though this book was written for women it is greatly good for men to read too.
The stories that the women take and go through and how they relate to themselves from the people in the scriptures teaches very many different things on how to apply the scriptures to our lives . I haven't even gotten a quarter of the way through the book and I was so enthused to take and share my enjoyment of this book.
I received an advance copy of this book. All the thoughts are my own and I have not been prompted to give good or bad reviews just to review.
I absolutely love this verse a day book. It not only gives you a scripture but also a quote by church leaders about the scripture. The paragraph gives you something to ponder for the day as to how the scripture applies to us each day. I feel like it is the most helpful verse a day I have ever read! I ordered 5 as Christmas gifts. I received an ARC copy and these are my opinions. Roxanne Newsome
Love that the messages, while short and powerful, correspond with certain verses in the Book of Mormon. Also, while there are 365 messages, you don’t feel like you have to read them in any particular order or on a particular schedule. I received an advance copy of the book, but all opinions are my own.
This book by Richardson and Thackeray is a remarkable work of love, understanding, inspiration and ability to convey a current understanding of how the Book of Mormon relates to all of us, male and female, in our day to day life priorities. The book is serious, joyful, happy and educational and I loved reading it. I hope others will love it as well.
For literally just a few minutes each day you can be uplifted, laugh and inspired. That's pretty good in such a short time. This book is delightful in that it is easy to read and remember the true life stories and inspiring scriptures to help you throughout each and every day of the year. I received an ARC copy of this book, but all the comments are my own.
A wonderful collection of daily devotionals. This will make a great gift for all your friends this year 2023 as we prepare to study the book of Mormon next year.
I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) from the publisher but the options here are my own.
This book was pretty involved but it was too much reading being a 365 daily devotional book in my opinion. I would prefer to read a short paragraph as a daily devotional and this was a little too much reading.
GREAT way to start your day! A quick thought or verse, and experiences are remembered, or your thoughts can focus on the idea of th Devotional and itXS amazing how ideas, and inspiration will come during you day. Thanks for all the authors effort!
I love this type of a lay out for a book. You can read and study one page a day. I will definitely be reading it each day in the upcoming year. Excellent book.
This book gives comfort and inspiration to everyone who reads it. I couldn't wait an entire year, I read all the quotes in one sitting. I will use this book again and again.
Start each day with an uplifting scriptures and quote. It helps to start the day in the right way, with things you can relate to and make your day better.
Can’t wait to study the Book of Mormon next year, and this will be a great way to start out the day with a personal devotional that I can apply just to me, my life, and my family. I loved the artwork and the designs on each page. I received an advanced copy, but all thoughts are mine of this book.
