Fate and the Exogames

Rate this book
In a world where Earth has become uninhabitable, the remaining human population live in a colossal space station which they call Second Earth. Twenty year old Fate Artemis has been convicted of a crime to which he cannot recall the events. The Council of High Judges allow him two options; to spend the next fifty rotations around the sun in isolation from Mars, or to compete in the biennial Exogames, an interplanetary competition with five difficult and deadly tasks. The only requirement entry is to commit an offence of the law. His survival would guarantee his freedom but it won’t be that easy. The further the games progress, the more challenging they become. With the help of his friends and fellow players, Fate Artemis tries to uncover the truth to his crimes whilst trying to survive all five rounds of the Exogames. Can he make it out alive or is his entire world about to end?

I'm not usually much of a sci-fi reader, but I really wanted to give this book a shot and I'm so glad I did! It had me completely gripped from chapter one. The world-building was phenomenally immersive, the characters felt so real, and the story was epic and cinematic. I really would recommend this book to people who don't usually read sci-fi. It has a fantasy feel and the fast pacing and intriguing dystopian setting really pulls you in. Bravo, George! I look forward to reading more from this author!

As a sci-fi girly I really wanted to like this book, but it just fell so flat. The idea? Fantastic. The story itself? Did not deliver. I felt nothing for the characters. People were dying left right and centre and I just didn't care. There was no emotional connection to the characters, and the plot twists didn’t make me feel anything. The characters just felt empty, like Fate, something horrendous happens and he’s supposedly sad for 0.2 seconds before the story moves on. What the hell. And the relationships? Nonexistent. The book tells us characters are close, but it never shows us. Eeeesh.

Bawled my eyes out. Thanks.
Honestly very underrated. This is a must read for anyone who loves a good sci-fi dystopian. Hunger Games vibes and Divergent era of books. I want Fate Artemis to be my friend in real life. Jayde is such a badass, love that gal. Jaaspar, deserved more but that's ok. This is a well written book and kept me hooked from the very beginning. Smashed out this book in 2 days. Not sure if there is a sequel, but I need more.

Saw this guy sing on The Voice and talk about his book so naturally I had to read it.
The world building in this book is unreal, it felt like I was actually there in space, on Second Earth, on Venus. The characters feel so real as well. I'm so glad I read this book.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. Take all the stars I have because this book deserves the best. The way I fell in love with all the characters so quickly was incredible. I've never read a book that made me love the characters so much.

All I have to say is that you must read this book. I have no idea why this book isn't popular. I need a movie made because this book was fire!

If I could go back to the past and read this book for the first time again, I'd do it 100 times over.
