There is just something about a good girl with a mind of her own that makes a bad boy want to change his ways…. After watching her parents be gunned down right in front of her, Princess decided that she wanted absolutely nothing to do with the streets or the men who ran in them. Now, a prestigious doctor in Atlanta, she’s changed her name from Princess to Aliyah and has left her past life of being a kingpin’s daughter far behind her. However, her plans of never falling for the type of man her father was are shattered when, through a twist of fate, she is kidnapped by Killian King who needs her to save his brother who’s been shot when a deal goes wrong. Killian King, known as ‘Kill’ for his ruthless and merciless ways, is the oldest of the King brothers, the heirs to an illegal weapon empire, started by their late father. Known as the ‘plug’ for his ability to obtain anything and supply it to his high-paying customers, no matter how hard it is to get or how illegal, Killian is the connection between the customer and their desires. As the oldest of the King boys, Killian is extremely protective of his brothers, and shows this when the youngest is nearly killed, by kidnapping a doctor to save him. Once Aliyah completes the life-saving surgery, Killian then finds himself indebted to a woman who hates everything about him, especially the life he leads. Unfortunately, the magnetic attraction between them makes it hard for him to forget her. And, even though, Killian wants to move on and put her in the past, for some reason, he’s unable to let go.

It started off good but then things just went flat. It went from Aliyah being super judgmental and childish is a sense to them having sex, deciding to be together then its 6 months later. There was nothing in this book that really spoke to them as a couple. No real discussion of the "fears" she had throughout the entire book. Other than the random date there wasn't any interaction with them as a couple but they were #couplegoals ?? He spoke about his fears to his mom but not to her? Yeah this wasn't it for me.
I loved the Grey's Anatomy theme. The doctor's were so focused, especially Dr. Washington, she was beginning to get on my nerves!!! Killian was professing his love and she was stepping on it like it was nothing and knew she was feeling him,but I guess it had to go the way it went. I knew Ethan had something with him, just too perfect, I was waiting on the sex to be trash, then he snapped, he probably would've hurt her if Kill wasn't there. I would love to see how each couple turn out in the future, especially Jalen and Imani. So cute!!!
I found this to be a slow burn, mature urban romance. There were so many things I liked about it. I liked that there wasn't an excessive amount of cursing. I liked Killian and Aliyah's little dates. Especially the one where he essentially kidnaps her--again. That was really cute and their banter on the dance floor was excellent.
But then there were a few things--like Killian having blue eyes near the end. It was so jarring that I did a search of the whole book to see if Killian had blue eyes and I just missed it. But nope. It was mentioned just once leading me to think it was a mistake.
Also I didn't agree with Aliyah having to apologize for judging him. Uh he kidnapped her--bound and gagged. I think she has a right to judge him for the rest of eternity--even if they live HEA, she could still bring that up to win any argument.
I thought it was out of character, considering his thick skin, how Killian would get so dejected. When he was headed to the ball, he was saying to himself how he was going to show out, but then he's all dejected when he sees Aliyah with Ethan. But he already knew she was with Ethan. He should not have been the least bit phased and continued to sweep her off of her feet.
I do like that Killian called Aliyah on her change of heart once she heard about the billions, and she never fully explained herself as to why she did change her mind. The money didn't matter. She already had to know he was rich, she was just concerned with how he made his money, but that was not resolved either.
I didn't mind Ethan going behind Aliyah's back to get his project funded, but how he turned into a completely different person when she broke up with him...also her leaving the ball with another man should have been all of the break up he needed.
So I guess you could say that I loved the beginning of the book, but was not too crazy about the end. Still overall, a good read.
Let’s be real Aaliyah was trash. She only wanted Killian AFTER she found out who he truly was. Y’all can say she liked him beforehand which I can admit she did, but it wasn’t until she saw he was actually socially BETTER than her that she even really wanted him. She’s superficial and didn’t deserve Killian and honestly nothing about her outside of being a doctor warranted his attention. The book was Lowkey bland and lacked any excitement. The whole situation with Ethan was out of left field. Nothing about his character lead to the way he acted after she broke things off. It was bad attempt from the author to showcase him as a bad guy when she honestly could’ve just let him be NOT the one for Aaliyah. The break up was too dramatic and bland at the same time which I didn’t even thing was possible. I love the author but this wasn’t her best work.
I like the story line but I was expecting a little more action, more thrill to the story as it progressed. It was more of her inner thoughts of being indecisive and nervous of her own shadow. He was no better, he lost the edge chasing her around, and then getting in his feelings every 5 min. Then for her to turn around have a change of heart after he bragged about being a billionaire was suspect to me. After she has played with Ethans feelings now he a villain. Like ok if you say so
The main characters got on my nerves with all the back and forth 😒 that was the pace killer... We get a doctor and even though she has a street past she is only into eaht she believes is normal. We get get a guy with trust issues and don't know what he wants most of the story. The best parts to me are the brothers and best friend...the story gers a bit redundancy at parts however we get a HEA.
I love the way that killian king, made aaliyah overcome her fears and that she decided to give him a chance. This book was very good to be a standalone book. The characters are perfect. I wondered if imani and Japan ever got together and gave it a try. I wish aaliyah the best with her study for her hospital. It is sad that she lost her parents at such a young age.
This was not Porscha Sterling’s best work. I did not enjoy it. Killian and Aliyah did not have a connection or chemistry. The back and forth between Aliyah and Killian, Aliyah and Jade and Aliyah and herself was quite tiresome. Also the book was boring. I am disappointed because I usually enjoy her books. This one was not it.
My first time reading this author and was a great read I loved the storyline. Glad Aliyah gave herself a chance at love and Killan was able to also let go and trust himself to love. All in all, these characters were able to leave their past in the past and decided to have a totally different future filled with love, laughter and joy.
I enjoyed the plot and the angst. The storyline kept me intrigued. I took off a star for grammatical errors and the characters appearance could have been described better to help us be further drawn to the characters. Overall I liked the writing style but it could use some editing to take it to the next level.
This part 2 of this series was awesome . It wrapped up things that went on in this 2-part series. I really enjoyed it. Love has mo boundaries. Your mind tells you one thing. Yet your heart feels another. In this love story, you get so much. You must read this. I truly enjoyed it. It will not disappoint you.
I love this book two really were good for each. From the beginning I just knew they would of been together sooner but Kill basically stocking her was everything. I would love to read about the brothers especially baby boy lol
Princess found a real one and they both decided to take a chance on love. Killian’s mom even recognized the connection between the two. Then Dom and Jade poor Jalen , he trying though! Can’t wait to read about more from the King me
Very good.... I dont wanna give too much lol. Just know you can run from things but you can't hide. You will have to face everything you are running from one way or the other.
This was a great read. Loved that it was a standalone also. Killian knew when he saw Aliyah that she was the one. He did whatever it took to make her his. We should all have friends like Jade also
I tried but this book was so slow moving it was driving me crazy. I was halfway through the book and they hadn’t even hugged or kissed yet. I kept waiting on it to get better and it never did.
I spent to much time on them not being together then anything I really needed more of chemistry I waited awhile before I read this but I'm still lost I need more I would like to see how everything turns out for Killian brothers..
This was an okay but most definitely a one-time read story for me. The character were okay but there was nothing about them that made me love them. There were a few editing mistakes, but it was the pace of the story that really hurt this one for me. It was too slow and it made the story drag.
Even though Aliyah tried to hide behind all of her degrees, trying to run away from who she was, true love will make you forget all that you thought was right.
