A Beautiful Read! This story of Segunda’s journey from Puerto Rico to NYC to follow her heart was a joy to read as I felt transported with her as she faced so many challenges along the way. You can really feel for all she had to experience as a single mother with limited resources and as a foreigner in a new country. The author did a fantastic job of conveying the personal struggles that Segunda faced everyday in trying to make ends meet and bridge two different cultures. It truly is a beautifully written novel and I encourage everyone on here to pick a copy up today. You will not regret it!!

A beautifully written story about dreams,, struggle, family, heartbreak and determination. The story follows Segunda as she travels from Puerto Rico to NYC during the depression era. This story gave me insight as to what Puerto Ricans went through living in the States during that time period. My mom moved from Puerto Rico to NY when she was 15 and as I read this story, I thought about my Mom and her experiences in NY. This book is a must read for all Latinos.

This novel is enjoyable to read and people who has two or more cultures can easily relate to what the protagonist in this story goes through. A strong woman who not only helps herself but also her family by moving to New York City. This is a representative of many who come to America seeking a better life. It’s also a historical account during the 1930s through 1970s.
