Love, Isidor

Rate this book
Dear Henri, there was a man at the restaurant this evening who looked so much like you that I winked at him and laughed.

One letter from his ex, Isidor, is all it takes to turn Henri’s world upside down. It’s been a decade since they broke up, a decade since they couldn’t make their long-distance relationship work despite their best efforts.

Do you ever think back on the decisions we made and wonder if we could’ve tried harder?

Isidor was the one that got away, the one who’s impossible to forget, and Henri still questions the decisions they made back then. Could they have fought harder for what they had?

My darling Henri. I still dream of you after all this time.

Is ten years apart too long, or will old feelings reignite when Henri and Isidor meet again?

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

Nell Iris is one of the few authors where I’ve loved every short story/novella of hers that I’ve read. She’s exceptional at packing so much emotion into whatever story she’s telling and Love, Isidor is no exception. From the opening lines of Isidor’s letter, Henri and I are swept away into a tidal wave of breathless emotion—all the longing, uncertainty, and aching want and love on full display. Isidor’s letter shakes Henri to the core and opens up doors to possibilities that Henri closed and refused to acknowledge in order to move on. He’s afraid to hope and afraid that trying again will leave them even more broken, erasing the good memories with bitter grief.

In the few shorts I've read, Iris is exceptional at packing in so much emotion in a few pages, and this is no exception. From the opening lines of Isidor’s letter, Henri and I are swept away into a tidal wave of breathless emotion. . . Despite the overwhelming ardor and yearning, to me it's not saccharine or overwrought. It rides that fine line between conveying the depth of their feelings and over-the-top sentimentality well. . . Even though the story is told from Henri’s perspective, I got to know Isidor as well. When Henri reminisces on the day they met, I see Isidor’s boldness, arrogance, and intensity. . . and in the letters he wrote, his love, grief, and unending devotion. . .

A deeply romantic story about a couple who parted amicably a decade before the start of the story as they felt their long-distance relationship was unsustainable.

But deep down, they've never got over one another. And when Henri gets a letter from Isidor out of the blue, this might be the chance to rekindle their romance. I loved the depth of characterisation in this story with so many vivid memories and impressions of lost love that convinced me these two would find a way to stay together this time.

OMG those letters!! Tore my heart to shreds. N. Iris knows how to pack an emotion-filled well balanced story into a few short pages. Henri and Isidor tried to make a long distance relationship work but ultimately broke up. They've been apart for 10 years until Henri receives a letter from Isidor. Love the uber sexy bits. Ms. Iris doesn't always include the lava-hot sex but when she does, whew!!! Melted my Kindle. Loved it!

Oh My Goodness! This may be a short story but it sure does pack a punch, you'll go through every emotion while you read this touching, heartbreaking and yet sweet tale. A story of love never dying, even years later, it is so wonderful.

LOVE, ISIDOR is a short standalone that details a second-chance romance. We join Henri after he and Isidor have been separated for a decade. He receives a letter from his old flame out of the blue and he has a decision to make.

For all this is a short story, it has everything you could ask for. Told from Henri's perspective, you still manage to hear Isidor's words in the letters he wrote. And, my word, they are so heartfelt. You find out the reason they split, and what they've been up to since, as well as catching up with them now.

This was a great story that was full of emotion and I loved every word. Absolutely recommended by me.
