A gritty, action-packed comedic crime thriller set in Colorado and starring a PI named Brandy Martini.
"Gonna be some boom-boom and some bang-bang, Gonna be some boo-boos and some owies"
When someone starts blowing up buildings in the town of Boomville, Colorado, Brandy Martini, a former big city cop turned small town PI, is hired by a wealthy property owner to find out who is targeting his vacation rentals and the tourists inside them. But how do you start an investigation in which half the town seems to have a motive or a skill that puts them on Boomville’s Most Wanted list? As Brandy tries to track down a mythical campsite in the forest, investigates suspects, dodges bullets, crossbows, wild animals, sarcastic remarks and flying body parts, she must also deal with her sister Annie’s new occupation, her escalating feelings for the man she can’t have, a newly formed Boomville Coalition for the Forcefully Displaced, a mysterious woman in a wig, her own demons and dark side, and a surprise visit that rattles her world.
As the town prepares for its annual Boom Fest event, Brandy races against the clock to prevent another attack. This time it's personal and she will stop at nothing to save lives, even if it means losing her own.
BOOM DAYS is a gritty, sexy, character-driven tale filled with humor, action and suspense, Brandy’s philosophical musings, a touch of the absurd, and a grand finale the likes of which have never quite been seen before. Featuring cowboys and hippies, scholars and stoners, bartenders, barflies and baristas, man buns and miners, a dog named Winston and a goat named Herman.

This was a fun one! I enjoyed the first book in the series, and this one didn’t disappoint! The sarcasm is on point. The witty banter superb. The action nonstop from the beginning to the end. I never once thought that the person behind all the “booms” would be who it turned out to be. Not once. Brandy Martini is an amazing PI/detective and I can’t wait to see what trouble she finds herself in next!
Thank you to @letstalkbookspromo for including me on the book tour for BOOM DAYS by Montana Kane. The second book in the Brandy Martini PI series, BOOM DAYS finds Boomville, Colorado literally going up in smoke as vacation rental properties are targeted for destruction. These explosions are too close to home, literally, just blocks from where Brandy lives and where her sister has set up a new food card on Main Street.
Already hired by one of the richest landlords in Boomtown to find renters who skedaddled without paying, Brandy thinks her deadbeats might have a reason to escalate. However, she learns that almost everyone in town has been priced out of the real estate market, many who have moved to a mysterious and moving campground in the forest.
No one seems to appreciate that the Air BNBs have taken over, making rent impossible for the seasonal workers on whom the economy depends. The Boomville Coalition for the Forcefully Displaced, which may or may not include bomb experts, is planning protests, and citizens on both sides of the fence are nervous about Boom Fest, the town’s premier festival—and an ideal time for a terrorist to make a stand.
Working with the married Lieutenant, for whom she can’t help have feelings for, and dodging suspects who are toying with her—and may even want to kill her—she will do anything to keep her community safe, even slide into her alter egos and race into danger.
A Colorado setting works for me: I love the descriptions of the mountains and the rivers. I spent a lot of time in Colorado growing up, but haven’t been there in ages, so this was a nice virtual visit.
I also liked that the motivation of the criminal is in part the encroachment of investors in a tourist town. That is happening where I live. So many people have purchased homes to make them Air BNBs that local people who live and work here have a hard time finding affordable housing.
When I imagine Brandy Martini’s inner voice, I see a 1940s or 50s film noir detective, rather cynical and isolated, clever at work but making poor decisions in her personal life. This tone is consistent throughout the book, but I’m not sure it’s the right choice for Brandy who at heart is more vulnerable. I haven’t read the first book, though, so it may make some characterizations clearer.
A running gag in this book involves a meat soup and animal body parts. Admittedly, I am sensitive about this, but I didn’t enjoy reading those sections.
Bottom Line: Check this out if you enjoy entertaining mysteries with a strong female lead in an idyllic Colorado small town setting.
Montana Kane’s upcoming novel, Boom Days, is the second in Brandy Martini series. Set in Boomville, Colorado, Private investigator Brandy Martini is called in when buildings around the town start randomly blowing up. A former cop, Brandy, is hired by a wealthy property owner who wants her to find out why the vacation rentals are being targeted.
As she investigates the bombings of the rental homes, she tracks down a mythical campsite in the forest, dodges bullets, and also deals with her sister, Annie.
As I read through the book, Annie’s phobia of being burnt alive stood out to me. While some may consider her phobia a form of paranoia, I think she was relatable and provided a wonderful foil to Brandy, who had to be strong even in the most difficult circumstances. I tend to have a phobia against snakes 🐍 and often get flashes of the future that I could slip on the stair case in our home.
I also appreciated the author’s research on how gas grids, gas lines, and how the company operates. It was evident in the ways in which the action-packed scenes were created and kept me hooked until the end of the novel. Def a 5✨ read! Do pick it up if you enjoy crime, thriller, humor and mystery!
Thank you @montanakanewordsandimages and @letstalkbookspromo for the gifted e-arc!
Brandy Martini PI is back, hired to find out who is behind a series of explosions in the small town of Boomville. The town is literally living up to its name and going out with a bang. Hired by a local property owner to find out who is behind these attacks. Brandy is an absolute breathe of fresh air, She is smart, sassy and sarky I loved that her wonderful sidekick Winston is back more gorgeous than ever. We also get goats too this time!. This story is full to the brim with plot characters and tension of every kind!!!! We see Brandy come across an array of characters that could all quite frankly be guilty if not the explosions then certainly lots of other stuff given the mixed bag of skills on show here. Brandy is back more bad ass than ever in this more than worthy sequel to High Crimes..... I really hope that the author does not stop at two Brandy Martini books... That would indeed be a high crime.
Whew what a great addition to this series! Fun, Edgy and Fast Paced ! Main character detective turned PI Brandy kicks butt and looks good while she’s doing it, all while the sexual tension between her and the police Lieutenant sizzles on the pages! If you haven’t started this series, you are missing out!
Thank you @letstalkbookspromo and @montanakanewordsandimages for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Former Chicago PD officer turned small town private investigator Brandy Martini is hired to investigate a string of explosions at local vacation rental homes in her idyllic home of Boomville, CO. Sexy, but married, cops. Sexy, but young, weed dealers. Drunk, gruff property owners. Her flighty sister and mother nipping at her heels. Just a few of the hurdles Brandy must leap over to solve her case.

This one was a fun ride! As it was the second book in the Brandi Martini series, I would recommend reading the first one, just so you can be familiar with the recurring characters.
That being said, this was comedic, the banter was cute and all the extra characters were fun!
While it was gritty and action packed, to me it felt almost lighthearted and not a classic thriller.
Brandy Martini PD is back!! She is investigating a string of explosions in the small town of Boomville. This book is fast paced and really was hard to put down. Seems like everyone could be guilty of the explosions. The characters chemistry is awesome!! I highly recommend this book to any and everyone that loves fast paced unputdownable books!
This is a bit different. This book has a private investigator and lots of quirky characters mixed with a lot of crimes. The book is entertaining, but it is too long for me.
Just finished binging both books about Brandy. Totally enjoyed them. Good main character, developed nicely. Good secondary characters as well. Good story lines. Plenty of action. Recommended.
I liked this book a lot. I was pleasantly surprised at the PI crime thriller troupe. I love investigation stories, and this was a good one y'all. The writing was engaging by the author and also, I was trying to figure out the mystery of the story the whole time.
Brandy is the MC who is a newly turned PI and she is investigating a mysterious set of "BOOMS" or explosive noises happening in her town of Boomsville.
I loved the small-town element of this story and the animals that are always around and Brandy's own sidekick Winston!
