In a Land of Great Beauty and Intrigue, Their Fates Were Forever Entwined...
LUCINDA was beautiful and free-spirited, an English lady ruled by her passions - yet innocent in the ways of love.
RASHID was dark and mysterious, an Indian trader who lived by his courage and wits in a world fraught with danger. ----------------------- Crossing the merciless desert sands of Afghanistan, Lucky was kidnapped and enslaved by the brutal khan. Escape was impossible. And yet, the handsome stranger Rashid dared to rescue her - breaking the chains of captivity and sweeping her away to the dazzling, exotic land of India. There, he unleashed a fiery passion in her heart, a deep, insistent desire that blazed like the Indian sun. Then, as quickly as he had entered her life, Rashid vanished with a trace....
Lucy returned to England, vowing to forget him. But then she met her sister's fiance, Lord Edward. And something sparkling in his dark, sensuous eyes stirred her deepest passion...her memories of Rashid. Were they, in fact, the same man?

synopsis: lucy is traveling with her father in afghanistan when they are ambushed. her father is killed, and lucy is captured by the khan and imprisoned. several years later, an indian trader by the name of rashid comes to the remote village, and agrees to take lucy with him. neither are meant to live, so after they escape, they travel through the treacherous mountains into india. once lucy is on her way to london to be reunited with her stepmother and stepsister, she vows to forget rashid. however, when she gets to london, something about her sister's love interest, edward, reminds her forcibly of rashid. once lucy determines that they are, indeed, the same person, they get married, and head back to india, because edward has one last spy mission to perform.
what i liked: i liked both edward and lucy. the fact that edward couldn't keep his secret from lucy, and that once the secret was out, he wanted to marry her was refreshing. then, when he was being sent on his last mission, he couldn't say no to lucy, that was unusual, too. i liked the fact that lucy was so resilient, and didn't hold other people's opinions against them.
what i didn't like: for such a smart heroine, lucy had a couple of tstl moments. they felt out of place.
