A comprehensive overview of quilting techniques combines more than one thousand instructional drawings, full-color photographs, step-by-step instructions in techniques ranging from patchwork and appliqué to embellishments, fifteen original projects, a complete set of templates and patterns, and a useful resource section for Web sites, materials, and supplementary reading. 12,000 first printing.
This is one of the better quilting guides I have read, but it feels like projects are thrown into the book too early before a new quilter has a chance to understand what is going on. Jargon is not defined immediately and may not necessarily be found in the minuscule glossary. Some of the material seems regurgitated from Ann Poe's Quilting School (also by Reader's Digest), but Poe's version goes into more of the history. I would not solely recommend this to a first time quilter.
