A very competent and quick overview of Greek vases from the Mycenaens through to the Roman invasion. The Greeks in this book range from western Lydia to Cumae, including Sicily - Magna Grecia. On the whole a very good book. Some of the pictures are too small to see the features described, and of course the black and white photos defeat the description of colours in the image. Some of the vases can be seen better in the companion book from the British Museum on Greek Inscriptions by B.F. Cook. But that said, the reader will come away with an understanding of the main features and trends to look for on their next trip to the museum.
