Pride and Prejudice's main characters were born with at least one unique ability. Darcy began experiencing premonitions at the age of five. He dreamed of his future wife the day he met Charles Bingley. He knew that Charles would be the key to meeting her. Darcy pulled Elizabeth into her future husband's dreams at age eight. Though the couple has years of courtship, no one knows their relationship; therefore, society will have difficulty accepting a short engagement. Jane's ability to read auras allows her to understand that the Bingley sisters are insincere and untrustworthy from their initial meeting. Georgie stopped Ramsgate because she knew that Mrs. Younge was not to be believed, so Younge was never hired. Georgie went to Bath with their aunt and uncle instead and her newly hired companion, Mrs. Annesley. Wickham arrives in Meryton and tells his stories about his inheritance. No one believed Wickham, causing much frustration and hatred. He discovers Darcy recently wed the second Bennet girl, so George plans revenge. He tries to rape Elizabeth, but instead, she burns him by igniting the lighter he keeps in his pocket. Will their abilities allow these lovable characters to stop Caroline Bingley from entrapping Darcy into marriage? Will Collins be prevented from destroying Elizabeth's marriage to Darcy? Will the de Bourghs be sent back to Kent without a union? Can Lizzy's abilities save Richard's life?
I just want to start this review by saying that I respect any author who willingly writes and publishes anything because it takes a lot to put yourself out there to be judged. That being said, dear author, I am sorry for what I am about to say.
I wish I had not bought this book. The premise sounded so interesting and quite different from other supernatural based P&P variance books; I was excited to start this. However, I should have realized from the jump that I would not enjoy this. There are quite a few grammar and sentence structure issues. For one instance – in the same paragraph the person is referred to two, sometimes three, different ways (i.e. Darcy, Fitzwilliam and William and not as a person speaking – “Fitzwilliam was shocked that a small girl of about eight had invaded his dream. As he was away at school and a little homesick, William dreamed of visiting the waterfall behind his home. The location was on their property; only his family and select friends knew about the stream since a cave hid its existence. Darcy had taken his sister to the waterfall the day before leaving Pemberley. While Darcy was at school, he would think of the waterfall before falling asleep.” - Chapter 1, 1st paragraph) This got highly frustrating as it continued throughout the book with multiple characters.
There were also several moments of the wrong word being used rather than the word I think the author wanted to use. And several continuity issues where a character repeats the same thing as if the character they are talking to had not heard it before.
Also, in the beginning with the dreams between Darcy and Elizabeth, it is acknowledged that she is much younger than him. But throughout several of the dreams when they meet and talk, Darcy has thoughts that are HIGHLY inappropriate to think about while that someone that is still a child, even if that girl will become your wife in the future. That made me extremely uncomfortable. But I pushed on as I purchased this book and was hoping it would get better and not be a waste of money.
It did not. It just got sillier and sillier. The side plots became ridiculous (Caroline's, Wickham's, even Anne/Catherine and Collins). The people accepted an engagement of two people who (known to them) had only known each other a handful of hours. The language of everyone was far too modern. But really made me completely stop and DNF this book was when Darcy called his cousin Anne a whore. That is NOT my Mr. Darcy.
I know this is a variance and that if I wanted a more true to character variance then I shouldn’t pick ones like this. However, I am not a stickler for my P&P variance reads to be that close to the original. I just prefer my Mr. Darcy to not use language like that as it is not very gentleman like. However, this story read as a first off fanfic where the author had far too many ideas to throw together with rather poor execution.
Wow a supernatural P&P! Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s supernatural talents tie them together. They overcome many challenges and avoid others. It’s a rollercoaster of a ride and I loved it.
I want to rate the book higher, but… I love the premise and the overall story, but I truly hope the author is reading these reviews as there’s no way for us to contact her to share our thoughts privately. I really hope that she will choose to use a few good beta readers as they would help her tighten up her stories and find errors before publication. A few of the other reviewers have already made mention, and I will as well, that consistency is the biggest issue overall. There are parts of the chapter that give certain information and then later, sometimes even within the same paragraph or the next that information is contradicted. For example in one chapter, it is said that Jane and Mary are escorted to town, but then right after that it has them still at home, and Jane being invited to Netherfield. One other section has Darcy having dinner with the family, including Mrs. Bennett and the younger sisters then the next day he is introduced to them like he hasn’t met them yet. The changing of name usage is confusing (referring to Darcy several different ways; with other characters sometimes having a title and sometimes not; including first or last or both names, etc. all within a very short period). Many of these could easily be solved by having that extra support of good beta readers. There are many who would gladly help but the author just needs to reach out and ask; if she has a newsletter for readers to follow her directly that would be a perfect place to start. If she does not then consider joining several of the online groups that are specific to P&P stories where authors & readers interact.
Overall, I completely enjoyed the story. Were there some far-fetched things, yes, but it was still an enjoyable story. I know some of the reviewers had issues with Darcy and Elizabeth in their early years visiting in dreams and that they were uncomfortable with what Darcy thought about Elizabeth. I did notice at least once that towards the end of their dream time early in their relationship that it showed Darcy what Elizabeth would appear as her adult self and he was clearly attracted to her in that form not as a child. I was not concerned with Darcy lusting after a young girl as he was thinking of the adult. It was mentioned several times where he would not touch or kiss until she was much older because of her age and wanted to respect that. There are some graphic violent parts especially when a character is having a vision of what is possibly to come but with help can be avoided. There is open door relationship with a married couple - so mature audience recommended.
My overall hope is that this author will please get some good beta readers to help tighten up her stories. I have enjoyed several of her other stories as well, but it is the same problems. I want to rate the stories higher, but it needs help with consistency and sometimes sentence structure/grammar.
I was hesitant to get the story after reading some of the reviews but am glad I did. It's full of paranormal activity with many of the characters having gifts such as precognition, healing abilities, the ability to bring people into their dreams, and the very unusual ability to float about the room! Darcy's dream situation takes a strange turn when he finds an 8 year old Elizabeth Bennet in his dream and she informed him a friend of his will introduce her when she is 20 and they marry. For the next years they meet in his dreams and become close friends. She warns him about Wickhams growing anger and need to harm both Darcy and Georgiana, and then warns him about Caroline Bingley and her attempts to compromise him. I enjoyed most of the story except for the knowledge that Wickhams attempt to compromise Georgiana at age of 6 years old and then the knowledge that Matlock's son Theo was a rapist who planned on getting to Georgiana and then Elizabeth by raping them and murdering Elizabeth. Fortunately both Elizabeth and Georgiana learned of his plans and a trap was set. For a family in the Ton, the Fitzwilliam family certainly had some despicable individuals, including Lady Catherine! The best part was Elizabeth and Jane setting Caroline up to be found in bed with Mr Collins! Absolutely loved it! Its definitely a story for mature individuals!
This story is one better stories I read from this author. this author. I really liked how much detail he/she included in this book. I found it interesting how Darcy and Elizabeth courted throughout their life. I enjoyed reading the adventure of the life of Darcy and Elizabeth with Arthur. I LOVED what happened to Caroline (I laughed) and definitely Wickham. Lady C is extremely gross in this story (my opinion). The paranormal is exceptional portrayed and well done. Loved the era aspects on it. Great read, but definitely for mature audiences
This book was absolutely hysterical. I loved every minute of it. The bad ones got their comeuppance and the good ones gotcha win for once. In a lifetime I highly recommend this book if you’d like a revenge story!
This is probably my favorite of Tiffany Ward's books so far. The plot was unique and I actually felt like there were more characters developed than just Lizzy/Darcy. The book could still use an editor, but I enjoyed the unique story and how it tied all the original characters together.
A very unusual and paranormal twist is added to this variation inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Tiffany Ward. Different but I liked it.
