A death on the ocean wave, and Detective Inspector Andy Constable and his colleague Sergeant Dave Copper are in the same boat - the brand new cruise liner 'Empress of the Oceans'. But which of the ship's celebrity passengers has been the victim of the poison pen of murdered investigative journalist Ira Veal? Did lifestyle guru Anita Holm mess up in the past? Has stock market trader Baxter D. Wall got more than his share of troubles? Or did widowed TV evangelist Pastor Best provoke an unholy row? Our detectives soon discover that murder knows no frontiers, and some guilty secrets refuse to be buried at sea.
Roger Keevil was born and educated in Southampton, U.K. Having moved to Spain in 2006, he devised and began to write a series of light-hearted short stories featuring his detectives, Inspector Andy Constable and Sergeant Dave Copper, eventually deciding to develop one of his stories into his first full-length novel, 'Feted to Die' (later re-titled 'Murderer's Fete'). Returning to the U.K. in 2009, he published the second Inspector Constable mystery, 'Juan Foot In The Grave' (later re-titled 'Murder Unearthed') in 2012, and in 2013 he launched Inspector Constable's third investigation - 'Death Sails In The Sunset' - set aboard a cruise ship. He published the fourth book, three short stories under the title 'Murder Comes To Call', in 2014 and followed this in 2015 with three further short stories in 'Murder Most Frequent'. The sixth Inspector Constable novel, a full-length investigation entitled 'The Odds On Murder', appeared in January 2016, followed by 'The Murder Cabinet' in January 2017. The next novel, 'The Game Of Murder', launched in January 2018, and then came 'No Bar To Murder', published in January 2019.
In October 2019 Roger published 'Honeymooner's Murder', the first in a new series of novels - The Copper & Co Murder Mysteries - following the further cases of some of the favourite characters from the Inspector Constable stories. The second novel, 'Murder at Witch's Holt', appeared in May 2020.
Roger was delighted to be invited by the BBC to be part of the panel of sleuths on their exciting new whodunnit game show 'Armchair Detectives' in 2017. A brilliant follow on to the previous book. This one finds Constable and Copper aboard the new cruise liner taking the stranded passengers home from Spain after a volcanic eruption closed the northern European air space. Looking forward to three days of relaxation their short break on the high seas is interrupted by the death of a fellow passenger. As the only police officers on board, and as it occurred in international waters meaning that officially it would be dealt with by the appropriate police force in England, Constable and Copper are natural investigating officers. A great book and equally as good as the previous ones in this series. I will be reading book number four in the series next.
As usual this Inspector Constable murder mystery did not disappoint in factory me reading to the last page quite compelling! Looking forward to the next in the series
