American Measurement Standard

The American Measurement Standard is a voluntary guide. This standard helps to establish common and logical definitions of “finished” or “heated” square footage and “gross living area.” The definitions and descriptions enclosed are provided with the intention of assisting in the preparation of consistent measurements and calculations, and to establish specific categories for use in the reporting or communication of square footage information in residential properties. Provides acceptable measurements for HUD, VA, FHA and in all mortgage lending.
