With a sigh she went pacing before a large mirror that stood "Ugh! I'm hideous! None of this looks very good!" After struggling to find the perfect outfit, Emily Soo dances the night away at a fun party. But when she gets home, her inner voice Emily Two tries to put a damper on her evening. Confronting our thoughts, fully facing tough emotions, and affirming ourselves can be difficult. Can Emily Soo find it within herself to squash her Worry and Woe?
Children’s literature isn’t necessarily one of my most read age ranges when it comes to books, but I thoroughly enjoyed this! It has a great message and the illustrations were beautiful and really helped tell the story.
I’m studying language teaching at university and we’ve recently been discussing the way that children’s books are designed to help language retention because of the formatting so it was super cool to see that in action!
Definitely check this out if you like reading children’s books or if you have any kids in your family :)
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book!
This book is an absolutely adorable way to show kids how to overcome cognitive distortions or the “nasty voice in your head” and replace those thoughts with positive affirmations. The book involves Emily who cannot find an outfit for a party and so Emily Two appears in the mirror. Throughout the book we see how the mirror character of Emily Two speaks down to Emily (herself). As a school social worker and a mental health therapist, I really appreciated this. It not only shows that children also experience negative self talk and cognitive distortions but also a way to overcome that using positive affirmations. I loved that the book rhymed and reads like a poem. I also loved the beautifully details illustrations that are easy for kids to understand. I will definitely be adding this to my arsenal of therapy books and can’t wait to see what Dr. Palacio comes up with next! Highly recommend this book for all kiddos 🖤
Thank you Bookinfluencers.com for including me for this tour. This book is a great holiday gift for children, educators, counselors, libraries, or child-based charities.
Emily Soo was struggling to find the perfect outfit for the party but when she look in the mirror she said “Ugh! I’m hideous! And I hate everything here!” She feels that all the outfits are not good enough for her. But then the mirror talk and saw that Emily two (the glass girl) was talking to her and helping her what to wear. When she got home, the glass girl was mocking her about how she dance. Until she have enough and confront two, she told how rude she is, how awful she, etc. So Emily keeps talking and the taller she stood until two was crumble and fade. Emily was so happy and proud of herself.
Another children book that I’ve read and loved. Tbh, when I was a kid I don’t read, I don’t recall if my parents reading me books. But as far as I know, they don’t. So yeah, I just started reading children’s book when I join Bookinfluencers and I absolutely loved all of them.
What to wear? How many times a week do you have the same thought? Ha, every single day. Emily had the same thought, followed by “Ugh! I’m hideous! And I hate everything here!” Then the mirror talked to her! When she got home, the mirror mocked her again. Emily finally learns to stand up to the inner voices and becomes proud of herself. This message is one we all need to learn! Hello! Children's books aren't just for children anymore - this is one of the best lessons/morals I've read in a children's book - let's share this message when they're young.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in order to share my opinion.
This is a book about a young girl named Emily. Emily is struggling to find an outfit for her party that is coming up. There is a mirror image girl of Emily that helps her figure out what to wear and how to help Emily outside of the mirror. The mirror girl then was a bit mean to Emily and made fun of her and Emily stood up to the mirror girl and told her off basically, by showing her pride. This is a great book for all those young girls who need a bit more help in being proud of themselves and their bodies, and also who they are. I loved the story and so did my 8 year old daughter!
Emily is going to a party and of course the age old question of what do I wear is the dilemma of the night and her inner voice that says nasty things brings her down. How does she deal with it? Well read the book and find out. Another well written Children's book By Dr. Drew with a great moral to the story. Once again the message is suitable for both children and adults alike. My daughter loved it!
Just like the first book, this one had beautiful illustrations. I’m a huge fan of this art style and how it brings the story to life. I found this one to be extremely relatable, even though it is obviously a children’s book adults could learn from the message as well. I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it. Such a great story to read with children or to them
One of the books in an outstanding new series of books for children. Very interesting and entertaining read--but there is also a learning message in the story. You and your children will love.
